Looking for a Python mentor /study buddy (Total beginner)

Hello, everyone. I'm a 23F. I've just started learning Python. I've absolutely zero background in coding/programming.

I also don't know exactly what I'm going to do with Python, but I'm still learning. Mainly, the thing that encouraged me to learn Python was because I want to learn localization engineering (for games) and advanced prompt engineering, so I thought I'd give Python a shot.

I'd like a mentor (preferably females), because sometimes I get small questions and get stuck with figuring my way around the programs.

Also if you're just starting as I'm, you can dm :)

I don't follow a specific course, but I'm currently watching multiple courses on YouTube, including Bro Code.

I think you're probably better off finding a community of people rather than looking for one specific mentor. Like can't you ask your questions in r/learnpython or something? If you want more realtime chat there's probably discord servers.

Thanks, I'll do look for discord servers too :) maybe I was too quick to ask for a mentor. I was asking for a study buddy too, but I don't think I'll edit the post.

Don't get me wrong, a good mentor is super valuable! It's just kind of hard to find one, and also kind of hard to evaluate whether the one you've found is good when you don't know the subject that well.

If you don't mind me asking, I feel like mentor has a different meaning in this field than what I've thought. What I meany by mentor is just someone with a lot more experience and whom I can ask questions and show my coding while I'm just starting out. But now I feel like mentor has a much serious meaning :)

No, that's pretty much what it means. Though sometimes with the implication that they're willing to be actively invested in trying to help you and your career. Maybe I made it sound more serious than that. What I'm really trying to get across here is if you just pick someone random on reddit and trust them to teach you python... well you might have picked someone who sucks at python and you wouldn't really know because you also suck at python. Forums and chat servers let you kind of crowd-source opinions, and they let you see how the people interact with each other (so you'll notice who gets treated like the resident "expert"). I guess maybe you could get a similar effect by just talking to multiple people and coming to your own conclusions.

If you're starting from scratch I like the two intro courses from Harvard

CS50 & CS50P (python), they're free and online with optional assingments

Look for advice not mentors , the best way of learning python is first go watch a tutorial of basics on python in my case i watched freecodecamp 8 hour lecture that gave me a solid base , then go to frameworks u like to learn don't grind through tutorials just watch there main functions that are used majorly, if u want to figure why this works then the best thing to ask is chatgpt or LLMs.

I'm indeed using it, but on free plans. So Claude for example runs out quickly.

There are a lot of other AI tools available. The point was, try to protect your energy.

Chatting with AI can be a waste of energy sometimes too. Don't forget that you have to "engineer" your "prompts" so specifically for better answers. I did ask for either mentors or study buddies, but I had to choose only one tag.
