Law Architects
Can y’all explain why I keep seeing architects with their panties in knots over the term “image architect”? No one is implying that Law Roach is designing civil infrastructure… y’all know that right? It’s a creative play on language and the way it’s being taken literally is shocking. CHILL!
Maybe there’s a currency group on Reddit where you can rage about the Sand Dollar.

Yes, but architects go through rigorous design school and training to master their craft and hone their skills.
Law didn't even go to law school much less design school. So he's making the word "architect" meaningless.

as someone who used to do structural engineering for a living, one of the big reasons i left the architecture field is because the people are insufferable. Some of the most insecure people i have ever met who use their titles to inflate their egos and feel superior to others. Genuinely mean people who proclaim they are stewards of society while also actively and loudly judging the very people they are supposed to be representing.
Obligatory “not all architects and architectural engineers”— just a whole lot of them xD
Law is clearly not parroting as an architect; there is no confusion. It’s all just bruised egos.

Architecture graduate here! It's actually illegal in many countries to call yourself an "architect" if you don't have a proper license. So the reaction is understandable coming from people who spent like 7 years training to get a license. 5 years architecture school + 2 years apprenticeship also you have to pass a board exam. I think if he labelled himself as a doctor, nurse or engineer people would also react in a similar fashion.

Most architects get the play on words just as most physicians would not care if he called himself Dr Style. As long as he doesn’t put MD, RA or AIA after his name, only the insecure get all uppity about it.

It might be more about the person using the term than the term itself cuz, according to Merriam-Webster, he is not wrong in using the term as there exists two definitions - the one we all associate it with, and the second:
a person who designs and guides a plan or undertaking
(e.g., the architect of American foreign policy)

Notice how stylist is the first word that comes to mind for what he does. Because that's what he is. The rest is just his own personal branding that he insists on, but like most high paid job titles is ultimately meaningless.

Who said anything about his race? If that’s the only reason he’s on the show, then there are many talented Black people (I.e., actual designers) who could easily fill that slot. I for one would love to see Anthony Elle. He’s a designer, he understands the show (having been a contestant), and he’s funny as f*ck.

I did. I didn't say that's the only reason he's on the show, I'm saying it's part of the reason for the vitriole.
People can be defensive about it all they want -- this whole "how dare he take the title of something related to something others go to school for!" and diminishing his accomplishments and work to "he shops for a living" is taking a successful Black man down a peg.
Not liking him isn't racist. Jumping all over him for using a term you think should be reserved for a career of majority white men, and for diminishing for his actual work as an accomplished stylist--en masse-- is.

Architect is actually a protected title in the US. Even if you have an architecture degree you have to pass the ARE to become a registered architect to call yourself an architect. That + a lot of architects having a complex means they get mad about it
Professions have been stealing “architect” and “engineer” for the past few decades… solutions architect, database architect, software engineers, information architect, sales engineer, project engineer….. the list goes on

Yeah, actual architects basically kill themselves for the title. A stylist is not an architect, he’s just a pompous asshole in an ugly wig. There are scores of individuals with architecture degrees that have worked under architects for their entire careers who would never call themselves an architect. They are forever interns until they get registered. It’s illegal. Have some respect!

I don't see architects losing sleep over this, much like engineers didn't bat an eye when garbage collectors became "sanitation engineers." Personally, it doesn't bother me—I just find it hilarious that the job-title-inflation crowd has rebranded "stylists" into "image architects."
