Discussion Bryan’s off screen work
I was trying to be subjective and not hate bryan’s clothing just because he is so unbearable. (Minus the tape dress which is undeniably bad) So I took to instagram! I could genuinely only find one look that I like.
I think some of the looks on his instagram are good editorially like I could see a popstar perhaps wearing it. A few of them…
But the only thing I genuinely liked, is picture #1. I actually really love it! But only on this male model. Bryan used several women to model it and it looks like an unflattering shag carpet crocheted onto the models. This male model looks stunning in it, imo.
The other pics are what I think are some of his worst looks. I’m nicknaming them “beer belly” and “worm birth”
In general, I think he has quite a few good designs (he thinks of really cool patterned textiles) but he puts them in this sickly white color and everything just looks like, toilet paper & motel bed sheets…

There are some cool sculptural pieces but I’m not sure he can construct a garment like this without a lot of help…

Agreed. Also I think he just likes creating patterns with fabrics, and he’d be better off just making a modern art gallery with textiles.

The manicotti does not need that amount of cleavage or the comforter at the bottom.

u/alwayslearning_r 7h ago
Right! On the runway he had the model wear just the coat and it looks so much cooler without the bulge at the bottom

I just find this aesthetic pretentious idk why

u/alwayslearning_r 10h ago
Probably because it is. If those “clothes” could talk they’d be saying I’m better than you
13
u/StrictComfortable941 10h ago
They'd be saying "IT'S HAUTE COUTURE" haughtily and then tossing their long hair.

u/tooshorttoored 9h ago
What, you don't have a bunch of dessicated worm cocoons ready-to-wear in your closet? Philistine!

It’s like Kim Kardashian’s all-white house with an all-white interior.

They’re haute couture, you wouldn’t understand. /s 😂

And that’s the thing, the only thing wearable is the menswear. Everything else is just to show he can do it.

The first one is not much different than a good fashion student’s work, IMO… making the sleeves different lengths is not groundbreaking or even that interesting. The others are more interesting as “fashion as art” sure, but like… that doesn’t make me interested to see more of his clothes. Also I hate the bottom on the last piece. The last piece sort of looks like an abused squished stuffed giant pasta shell 😂

u/alwayslearning_r 10h ago
Yes exactly, its like the only one that is good in motion is the one thats a little basic. And the jacket on the last one could’ve been cool but the styling of the set is horrible. I saw it in the background of a photo of one of his runways and the model wasnt wearing anything underneath. That looked much cooler!

I just really can’t shake the comment made about how he can’t even dress himself lol
And the hair flips just killed me everytime.

This is avant-garde, not really Haute couture. Where could you wear these other than to a costume party? And they whine about Jeffrey making costumes?

u/Yoga-wine-mom 10h ago
Would you say it looks like... Paper towels?

u/alwayslearning_r 10h ago
I almost said his choice of fabrics is giving Viva 😂 but it didn’t feel critical enough

u/lezdothetimewarp 10h ago
Maybe the issue for him is only having 1-2 days? Who knows how long he had for the looks you shared which are leaps and bounds better than what he’s shown on TV. Either way, I don’t stand for putting other contestants down and calling them your intern 300 times.
11
u/alwayslearning_r 10h ago
He as a person is genuinely unbearable

Haute couture this haute couture that… I think it’s funny Law hates arrogance but is totally blind to Bryan’s🤦♀️

I like them more as art pieces. I just do not see him as a wearable designer.

If you click on the link to his website in his bio on Instagram, you’ll see his collection in full. And he uses a lot of the same iterations of a princess seam column dress, big ruffles, and fabric manipulation…so he does have an aesthetic he keeps repeating over and over (but yet he doesn’t get called out on it). They’re weird, so they’re editorial, but he’s not making clothes that can sell. No one is making money doing editorial, most of those are lent out. And for all of his bragging about Paris training, he has zero embroideries in his work

u/alwayslearning_r 9h ago
Yes I agree. He doesn’t make anything wearable and thats the point of project runway!

Student work with no practical use. Project runway is fashion to be purchased by a consumer, not worn in a museum installation

Ratty doily, meringue gone awry, meringue with potholder in background , and clogged vacuum filter.

u/zelda_moom 10h ago
It really reminds me of Irina Shabayeva’s all star collection. All that fractal stuff she did and she had a lacy white one that this is strongly reminiscent of.

I think you misspelled
"Bryan's STUDIO TEAMS off screen work"
Just fyi.

u/picks_and_rolls 9h ago
But what did HE contribute? How many Bis does it take to make a garment with Bryan’s name on it?

u/tamaaromarou 9h ago
The fact that he doesn't make these takes away the impressiveness from any of it

u/Smarties_1901 9h ago
The 2nd one looks like she has lymphedema. I don't mean any offense to anyone, my intent was not to make fun of a disease.

I think he has someone sewing for him… isn’t that what Bi did as his ‘intern’?
3
u/SnooWoofers752 7h ago
I never fully got this critique when I saw it, but its "Studenty." like these designs come from a fashion design student that hasn't settled yet so they try to make things that are grand or impressive but not exactly practical or thought-out. like hes still designing to get an A plus, not build a brand

u/Mystery-Moon_0129 7h ago
His clothes are sad. They also look like decorations in a pretentious mansion.

u/DorianCoreysTrunk1 10h ago
I’m not sure why folks care if he sewed these. lol lots of designers (major and minor) do not actually sew their own collections and we’ve seen that you don’t need to be the best seamstress to win the show.
But Bryan’s attitude is crappy, I’m not sure who his clientele is and his ability to execute strong ideas in the time window allotted leaves a lot to be desired.
4
u/alwayslearning_r 10h ago
Agreed. Sewing expertise is important to the show but not really for designers in the real world. He can’t sew for squat but his ideas are a little sad too. He has a lot of potential but I think he just decided he’s so amazing that he doesn’t need to improve anymore. So everything falls short for me.
For example i think the textiles are awesome but I wish he chose better silhouettes and a different shade of white to display the patterns on.3
u/DorianCoreysTrunk1 9h ago edited 9h ago
These are great points!! I love what you said: “everything falls short.” That is so accurately how I feel about his looks on the show
Edit: And also his treatment of Lyris was just beyond diabolical.
1
u/alwayslearning_r 9h ago
Omg poor lyris. She gets done dirty time and again. I wish she was around for christian siriano’s season 4 because he would’ve cherished her.

I feel like I should like these dresses. I want to like them. But, they seem unpolished somehow. I'm not sure what I am picking up on. But the dresses are missing something that would take them over the top. Plus, the first dress looks like the model is hiding several litters of kittens under it.
2
u/alwayslearning_r 9h ago
I think his looks are just textiles but if he made some better stylistic choices they could really be art!

I mean it’s giving that tampon wedding dress runway picture , the picture of the manatee from below where its knees are really creepy, and walls inside a soundproof insane asylum type room. Nothing so mind blowing and yawn on all white

this is a great leasson. lots of mediocre people who are probably a nightmare to work with have sucess. therefore, so can you!

That 2/3 one looks like a scrotum with elephantiasis. Like, I’ve literally seen that on a man.

u/Catlady_Pilates 1h ago
They all look like toilet paper except for the last one which looks like a slinky eating a duvet
Impressive technical skill is only valuable when one has taste.

I went online searching for the same thing! I kind of liked the hot pink dress he used for the cover page of his website, but there wasn’t a lot to look at. I had to move on after seeing his weird portrait with his face skinny and his hair blowing all around his head. That portrait tells you all you need to know. Delusional narcissist.

u/rohitkumardear 1h ago
Every one of the designers on PR had made really great collections. They have designed and made for Met Galas, Red Carpets, Award Shows. Not just Brian.
When you are on a talent show, working under pressure, working outside of your comfort zone, working with different people of different tastes is what PR is looking for.
Though you are great driver; if you fail a driving test, they aren’t gonna give you the license, right! Also, making fun of someone’s strongly condemnable.

All those white fold whatevers. I want to say he was one of the people that said Joseph is a one truck pony and if he did he is one to talk...
1
u/NYCWartortle 10h ago
I must reluctantly admit that these designs are cool and possible haute couture. The key question is, did he sew these ?
3
u/alwayslearning_r 10h ago
Doubtful, he doesnt have sewing skills. I think the structures are impressive but it belongs on a sculpture or a wall imo, not a body. Maybe him and a team of seamstresses can open a gallery instead of fashion shows

The creativity is there. The technical skills are not. I actually really love the 2 other designs you posted. The first one looks like early 2000s oversized dressup. 😬

Some interesting clothes that Bi sewed
