I'm dying at all the MK classics.

Picture it, it’s F/W 2006 NYFW. 

Department stores, even more mass market stores like Old Navy are flooded with peasant skirts and blouses, 60s and 70s silhouettes (now with rhinestones) are everywhere. Boho chic is no longer just for starlets, it’s gen pop. In high schools across America, girls are ditching their preppy polos for blingy flowy tops, tiered skirts and flared jeans. 

Your competitors are: 

Laura: who shows a 1920s themed evening wear show, which has just been done by many houses including Galliano in 2004 

Mychael: who despite dating brandy herself, went for an oddly mismatched sequin disaster when HE COULD HAVE DONE STREETWEAR WHICH HE WAS AMAZING AT 

Uli: beautiful, flowy pieces that are stunningly crafted but…it’s in stores. Chloe, Cavalli, Fendi, Balenciaga just showed this look in 2005, even if it is Uli’s signature done perfectly.

Jeffrey: painted as the asshole (deserved), but at the end creates the beautiful yellow plaid dress in France and features skinny jeans, zippers, plaid, and a more “tough” leather look that will come to dominate that very fashion week in his finale and will be on the racks to come from 2007-2010. 

Honestly, it had to be him. I hate it, but it did. Uli’s work was stunning, but the collections from 2005 were largely flowy garments. After Jay tore the roof off the place by turning down the predatory contract and Chloe (at the time) not making a splash, they wanted to go with what was next and they were right. His collection screams what women were wearing the next year. 

Uli deserves her flowers, but it simply wasn’t the time. 

Everyone has said rightfully how terrible this season is. Started watching Season 4 on Peacock (free)… how refreshing! Lots of Tim Gunn mentoring, a baby Christian Soriano so talented and adorable, art as inspiration, and 2 day challenges! Try it for a MENTAL BREAK and to see the creative process with constructive criticism!

I think everyone here feels this way: seasons 1-20 (even the all-stars version) felt like a documentary on fashion compared to seasons 21-22.

This isn’t about the art of making clothes anymore:
this is about interpersonal drama with fashion as the backdrop. It’s effectively “The Real World” or “Housewives” with clothing to fuel conflict. If you notice, even the confessionals have moved from talking about their struggles making the garment to dumping on everyone.

They have radically changed the show with no respect for its audience in service of trying to bring in a completely new one; it’s as if the producers had never seen the show before.

They should’ve done a completely different show if this is what they wanted, not this hostile takeover.

Why are the challenges this season so literal???? Pick an animal, football, a specific dance. Besides everything else that is different about this season it seems to undermine the intelligence of the viewers or designers. As though we won't understand fashion that is not literal.

Talk about cringe-making and exploitative. Has zero to do with their design skills and humiliating to boot. Zero stars.

I'm really curious what Law has said to those where he goes "Let's chat soon, though." Has there been any follow-up announced yet?

It's interesting that he can read someone to filth and then turn around and say, "But I'll totally work with you."

Now I know some of the decision making for eliminations can't always be unanimous amongst judges, producers, etc.

But it feels strange when he says that with how fucking mean he can be.

I would like to see those collabs too if they are truly to happen.

One day designs should be a challenge not a constant.

Like a one day unconventional material challenge?

One day with a certain type of fabric? Etc.

We’ve gotten amazing designs obviously, but having only one day to design actually limits what they can make.

It’s like in the food network show “Chopped” there’s certain entrees/deserts that cannot be made in the allotted time (risotto is a prime example).

Also if they only give the final three 5 days again! I’m going to be pissed. At the very least give them a week or two.

If the judges want better designs they need to give the designers more than one day for challenges. Have we seen some great designs regardless—yes. But overall the quality of designs has really declined.

I guess you could say doing it this way really weeds out the weak designers. But I want to see more of the process and time in the workroom.

I’m glad they brought the show back but wish one of two things—they would go back to the original format, or rework the show completely and give us something fresh.

Thoughts?

My other all time favorite PR contestant is Dmitri Shokolov, winner of season 10 and All Stars season 4. I adored how he could make extravagant evening looks as well as tailored clothing with sharp clean lines.

I really enjoyed this video. The thing I enjoyed the most was an Interview with Christian. In it it states that he has a Plus Size line. It tripled his business. But what he said was so refreshing. We're supposed to make cute clothes. So, you were a size 26, you still want to wear cute clothes. Something to that effect. Even if it was a business move to triple his business, he still gets that he's just a designer not a messiah and that big girls want to look cute just like the small girls do. Nothing too hard about that fact.

Jeffrey is such a delight, he had me cheering through my sadness of his elimination. Come through with that dip honey 🙌🏾

Bryan did exactly what he complains that Joseph McRae does by doing that horrendous colon-esque silhouette again😂😂😂😂 at least Joseph’s calling card looks good even if you think he does the same thing over and over.

After going on Joseph McRae’s site, Law is absolutely correct that it gives promoting my brand. ✨Follow up thought that may end up being its own post, I see both sides of the argument surround him. I love Joseph McRae’s designs, and it’s great that we know exactly who it is based on the looks however I do think he needs to do more (he actually had more diversity in his looks in his early collections on his site). The defense I have heard is that some brands have signature looks and you wouldn’t tell them to evolve or switch it up, but that’s simply not true. For example when you think of Coco Chanel of course we think tweed suit, BUT she designed things outside of that

I wish we had insight on how the judges have reacted to finding that the audience/ viewers feel as if they have missed the mark judging this year. Obviously production is production-ing this season bad, but still. This year has been YIKES 🙃

Did Heidi’s sparky minidress remind anyone else of Jeffrey’s design for her from the Devil Wears Prada challenge that didn’t win??? 👀

Between Law seemingly giving less harsh criticisms and Tyra not being on judging panel 👀 I swear there’s been an energy shift since she hasn’t been on the panel, and I wonder if there’s some animosity carried over from ANTM or outside of this show. Either that or someone literally told him to tone it down after like episode 5, or changed his edit. But I’m just curious if anyone felt like there was some correlation between her not being there and him seeming less harsh in his delivery of critiques.

If jeffery is not saved by christian I will literally punch a hold through my tv. Bryan’s attitude is going to get him NOWHERE and he is delusional about the success of his garments. Jeffrey’s looks can get a bit costumey I don’t deny but his construction and ideas are impeccable

I will start with:
- Overwhelming

I mean, I like his drama, don't get me wrong. But I do like how tame he's been in the last few episodes... he seems almost normal now.

The producers probably told him to chill. 😭

This comment from Heidi to Bryan… ouch. The worst dressed list shade.😬🍿🫪

Not entirely sure whether this episode would have been filmed before or after she ended up on the Worst Dressed List for Devil Wears Prada 2… But it would be funny if this was her way of telling him she was not happy about being on the list.

Edited to add: looks like this was filmed before the worst dressed list happened. Heidi predicted her own demise!
