Just a FYI for the community. After reviewing some feedback, the inactivity period at Proton is being extended to 2 years instead of 1 year. If you are reserving an account for your kid (or someone else), please use this system, it lets you reserve a username for 15 years: https://proton.me/support/mail-reservation-voucher

Unfortunately I contacted Proton Support when "born private" went public asking if it was possible to join the program for two usernames that I created when my kids were born, but I was replied it wasn't possible, so I set a calendar event every 6 month to keep the accounts alive... pretty annoying.

Now my older child has its own Raspberry computer logged with his Proton suite - he already wrote two school papers with Docs and created cover grahics with Lumo ;) - so fortunately I need to only keep track of the second account for my younger kid.

No, the data would not be recoverable and would be long gone, that's fine, but the account itself should be recoverable.

I've now got two friends that I tried to get on Proton, they signed up, didn't really care, and now are back and wanted help to get up and running (custom domain eventually), and... Their prized name is gone.

That's good, now it matches other email providers' stated inactivity periods. It even beats Yahoo's where they will delete your mail after just one year, and then your account after two.

Tuta has 6 months last time I checked. Similar for other competitors (such as Tresorit or Filen). 1 year was already generous, now 32 years is even more.
