My friends and I rented a highly rated Airbnb, but we arrived today and there is no water. The hosts are being very responsive, but they say it’s an issue of the water company and they do not have an estimated time the problem will be fixed. Does this have to do with the drought? Are water companies reliable or should we just book another Airbnb and hope to be refunded?

My partner and I are planning a trip to Puerto Rico for nine full days (11 days including flying). We are certain we want to spend at least 5-6 full days in San Juan with half of the days being beach days. However, we are not sure how to spend the rest of the time. We’d ideally like to spend more time indoors or on beaches due to temperature/humidity sensitivity. We thought Ponce may be interesting to explore as well but we would like to get your thoughts!

And within the terminal, are there any still to be avoided as I know the answer will be to stay within, but even so?

Found this round trip tour between Fajardo and Vieques. You leave from Fajardo at 5 then return back the same evening after doing bio bay kayaking. It seems new and I can't find any reviews or opinions. Anyone done this tour?

Taking an adult family trip to San Juan and were planning to rent a car and at least snorkel at Escambron Beach. Wondering if anyone has any tips when going to El Yunque From San Juan. I hear the parking is limited and was seeing if a tour might be best since I see some tours pick up near us. Or would be better to just drive down there?

Also if anyone has any specific food places or must go to beaches in San Juan, please do! My family is very into salsa dancing so any night life where they can dance salsa would be greatly appreciated too.

We are in San Juan today and my kids really love watching the cats sun themselves on cars. Last time I was here, we just walked around and saw them but today we are striking out. Any suggestions for streets to watch some cats with young kids? Thanks!

I'm going to Puerto Rico in January and staying in an Airbnb in Santurce, and I'm already stressing about spiders.
I lived in Guayama PR until 1 was 5, and I still remember seeing tarantulas as a kid.

For anyone who lives in or has stayed in Santurce, how likely am I to run into a spider in an Airbnb? Has anyone actually encountered one? And should I be worried about huge spiders or tarantulas?

Wife and I will be down in the middle of November for a couple of weeks and our 2nd week we planned on staying on the west side of the island after our week 1 in Rio Grand.

One of our priorities is clear and calm waters as we like to swim and wade rather than fight with waves. Its been my understanding after a little research that further SW is the better option.

I currently have an AirBnB booked at VistaMar on El Combate - walk to the beach, calm waters, well priced - all checks. After reading a bit on here I see quite a few comments that the area is lacking in things to do. Not exactly sure what that means as we're not looking for a nightlife scene or much for drinking - good sight seeing, exploring, good food.

Which leads me to, should we look somewhere else? If so how far north should we look before water starts to get rougher. Ideally we'd be on the beach or 2-3 mins walk to it, and able to set up on the sand and be able to get into the water and relax.

If anyone has any suggestions on an area/beach I should look at it I'd appreciate it. But if my current set up is good I'm more than happy with that too.

I have a trip planned in late October and I am wanting to book the rental car pretty soon since I know that I’m cutting it close now. I looked at the rates and compared them and saw some of the cheaper companies (can’t remember the names but one of them started with an A), and it seemed too good to be true cause for 8 days it was like $150 before taxes for their cheapest car. I looked online for reviews for multiple companies and they all seemed pretty bad, but maybe it just cause the only reviews people leave are when they have negative experiences? I don’t know.

But just wanted to ask here, which rental company do you generally recommend? My main concern is being told that the rental (including insurance and taxes+fees) is x amount when I book it, but then showing up and get charged a lot more than anticipated- which has happened to me once in the past when I rented from Hertz. A holding charge is fine though and generally expected, but I’m not wanting any surprise fees. Thanks in advance.

Hello - I am a solo female traveler in her 30s that will be traveling to PR in October.

I will be staying 5 days 4 night (3 full days). I am staying in Old San Juan and will not be renting a car. I plan to do one excursion day to the national park but outside of that my schedule is pretty open.

I am looking for local tips and recommendations for the following:

- Nearby beach location (preference would be if chairs are available but open ti anything)
- best restaurants (I like to know what the locals like best) I am also celiac
-Any good specialities I should try
-boutique shops
- Bars (daytime/early evening) and maybe live music?
- I will need to run 10 miles so any long running routes that you may be aware of

Please let me know if there is anything else that is worth being aware of! It is my first time visiting.

I am planning a trip to Puerto Rico with my wife. 14 days. We want to visit 3 places about 4 days a piece. I have no idea where to go. We are pretty well traveled and speak Spanish fluently. We would rather be among the people than in a resort. Give me some ideas. Not big on hiking. But I definitely want to see the giant satellite.

I read that I could take bus route 53. Do you think that's a good option, or would you recommend just taking an Uber?

Also, regarding the bus: is it still free at the moment, or does it cost $0.75 now? If it's not free, can I pay by credit card, or is it cash only?

Me and my friend are stay from feb 10th-19th in San Juan we are renting a car. We want to swim with sharks is that possible. Also do you have any recommendations on what to do?

We are looking to rent a car for 9 days, but we've never had the cheapest option still be so expensive (about $1750). Enterprise, Alamo, and National are all already completely booked, and Avis/Budget are the cheapest (in-terminal) options that still have availability. Christmas to New Year's is definitely a busy time of year, but we were still surprised at the car rental prices. Most people seem to strongly recommend renting a car that you can pick up directly at the airport, but I've also seen quite a few recommendations for taking a shuttle to Charlie Car Rental. We're unfortunately not Costco members (not US residents), so we can't book through Costco Travel to try to save money. Overall just looking for tips to book a reliable car and wondering if the prices we are seeing are normal for peak tourist season. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the responses! I ended up going with Enterprise at the Carolina El San Juan Hotel and it was a little over $1100 (incl. insurance) for 9 days, so not nothing, but still over $600 cheaper than Avis/Budget directly at the airport.

My friend and I (both from Finland) would absolutely LOVE to visit Puerto Rico. Both of us grew up listening to reggaeton (just not together) and let's just say finding other people who liked that music growing up in Northern Europe wasn't exactly easy.

We met at Bad Bunny's concert in Sweden, and recently we've been talking about visiting Puerto Rico together. But my concern is: is our "visiting" wanted? Will we only contribute to something harmful? Would Puerto Ricans rather we stay away?

We would love to experience your beautiful island, especially since neither one of us has ever experienced anything like it. The Nordic countries are quite different from it. But we also don't want to be ignorant tourists and not visit if it's not preferred

We will be going and staying in San Juan. My teenager has down syndrome and walks a bit slow. Can anyone recommend a few things that we can do? I wanted to do the rainforest tour, but it looks like the ones I've seen are for physically fit people. I am afraid she'd fall or slip. Thank you.
