Help from current or past med students

I am going to be a first-year Medicine student at QUB and wanted to ask if anyone could recommend any websites or resources I could use to start preparing. I have heard about how rigorous the course can be so I would like to get a head start if possible. Preferably I am looking for free resources.

I would also appreciate any tips from current or past medical students on how to effectively retain information and manage the workload!

Looking for student accommodation near Queen’s University Belfast – 8 month contract

Hi everyone! I’m an international student starting my course at Queen’s University Belfast this September, and I’m planning to move to Belfast around 20th September or shortly after.

I’ve applied for Queen’s accommodation but haven’t heard back yet, so I’m also looking for private student accommodation as a backup.

Ideally, I’m looking for somewhere that is:

  • Close to Queen’s University (preferably within a 15–20 minute walk)
  • Safe and in a decent area
  • Ensuite/preferably with a private bathroom
  • Reasonably priced
  • Most importantly, available on an 8-month contract

I’ve found quite a few options online, but almost everything seems to require a 51-week contract, which doesn’t work for me. I’ll be moving out with my family around the end of May, so I only need accommodation from around late September until the end of May.

If anyone knows of any student accommodation, private landlords, groups, websites, or other options where I could find an 8-month/short-term contract, I’d really appreciate your advice!

Any recommendations or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)

Choices!

Hiya! I'm an A-level student (yr 13) and I wanted to do history at queens, I'm a very anxious person so some of what I ask might be stupid! I was wondering how moving from England works? And how choosing modules works as well? What are some pieces I'd need to think about getting (laptop, books ect..) sorry and thank you!

Still Deciding on my Application

Hii, I’m a student from the Republic of Ireland and have applied to Queens to do a History BA, and just got my Leaving Cert results last week. It’s been five days and a response is still pending and my CAO offer came out today however Queens has always been my dream Uni and it’s what I’ve been working towards. I needed a H2, H3, H3, H3, H3 and I got a H1, H2, H3, H3, H5 ( german was always gonna be my downfall I fear.) So I understand I haven’t exactly met the requirements but when I emailed they did say I was still being considered even if I haven’t met all the requirements. I guess what I’m asking is if anyone has been through something similar and if so what was the wait like? I’m a little stressed because if I get into Queens it will be a definite accept but theres a deadline to accept my CAO offer so I kind of just want an answer from Queens in good time.

Tenancy takeover-123 York Street Belfast

Hi I’m Looking for someone to take over my room at 123 York Street. It’s on the 7th floor and only a 2 minute walk from Ulster University campus. It’s £142 per week with all bills included. The room is en suite with your own bathroom and has a courtyard view. You only share the kitchen and living area with your flatmates, so you have your own private bedroom and bathroom.

It’s a really modern student accommodation and in a great location. If you’re interested just message me!

Ideal for Ulster students

Despite having the course code, student finance ni refuses to recognise it and doesn’t show any courses on their website when applying for finance, has anyone else had this problem?

RS Laird

Anyone had any experience with RS Laird. Just signed a contract with them and people on my course are saying how awful they are. Don’t fix any repairs and are dreadful for giving deposits back.

QUB "everyone goes home" myth??

Yo guys, currently thinking of medicine at queens belfast, and just wondering how true the 'myth' that 'everyone goes home at the weekends' (obvisouly just the NI students, but the majority would be NI no?) actually is. Like does REALLY get lonely at the weekends, in terms of socialisation of students, or is it heavily overstated...etc? I would appreciate any QUB students to share the experiences on this, as it will rlly help with my decision! Thanks in advance guys!

Spare Room Available

Heyyy Guys, I’m a Nigerian girl who just graduated, looking for a female roommate to share a place with in Belfast. I’d preferably like to live with another Nigerian woman, but what’s most important is finding someone respectful, clean, and easy to live with, the house is a 10min walk away from Queens and about a 30min walk away from Ulster. A bit about me, recently graduated, friendly, tidy, easy to get along with. If you’re looking for a place don’t be shy send me a dm!

Guidance for finding an apartment

TLDR: How to find an apartment and things to pay attention while looking for an apartment.

I am moving from france (immigrant here not native) and I am quite amazed by the lack of studio apartments in the city. The difference between 1bhk and 2bhk is very less in terms of money. I am moving as a staff and options are further limited. How did you guys find your apartment?

I will be working in BT3 though I prefer staying in walking distance but it costs from 1000 pounds(too much). Apart from this, if I live anywhere else I need to change 2 buses.

So, where to stay and what needs to be seen while looking for accommodation.

1st Term

Random question, but do any second/third years know how common it is to have exams in the last week of winter term? Specifically for maths, just trying to judge when is the earliest safe date to book plane tickets. Thanks!

1st year Law

Hey guys, I found out that I got into QUB to study Law at undergrad. What’s a typical week like as a first year Law student? Secondly, I’m 25 and beginning the degree. What’s the social element of the degree like as a mature student? Will I feel old/be able to meet people? Cheers🤘
