I’m having a strange issue with my reMarkable 2 and I’m wondering if anyone has managed to solve the same problem.
The tablet works normally and charges over USB-C, but I can’t get any USB data connection working. The USB web interface switch appears in Settings, but tapping it does absolutely nothing — it never turns on.
I was trying to connect using reManager/SSH, but the problem seems to be lower-level than that because the Mac isn’t detecting the reMarkable as a USB network/data device at all.
Things I’ve tried:
- reMarkable 2 is fully up to date
- restarted the reMarkable several times
- restarted it while connected to the Mac
- tried the 15-second power-button reset/reboot sequence
- tried a genuine Apple USB-C cable
- tried other USB cables
- connected directly to the Mac rather than through a hub
- changed macOS Privacy & Security → Accessories to allow USB accessories
- tried two different Macs
- kept the reMarkable awake and unlocked
- tried enabling USB web interface repeatedly — switch appears but won’t activate
ping 10.11.99.1Â gives 100% packet loss
ssh [root@10.11.99.1](mailto:root@10.11.99.1)Â just hangs and never reaches the password prompt
- checkedÂ
networksetup -listallhardwareports
- checkedÂ
ifconfig
- checkedÂ
system_profiler SPUSBDataType
- checkedÂ
ioreg -p IOUSB -l -w 0
The Macs don’t appear to enumerate the reMarkable as a USB device at all. It charges normally and the USB-C connection feels solid with no obvious physical damage or excessive movement.
Wi-Fi SSH is currently disabled, so unfortunately I can’t use that as a workaround without first getting USB SSH working.
The device is out of warranty, so before I consider this a failed USB data connection/port, I wanted to check:
Has anyone had this exact issue and actually fixed it?
In particular, has anyone found a software/firmware fix, hidden setting, factory-reset fix, or a way to enable SSH over Wi-Fi without first having USB SSH access?
I’d be really interested to hear from anyone who had the USB web interface toggle visible but completely unresponsive, as that seems to be the key symptom.
Really want to try our reManager!
