Need inspiration

I’ve had a raspberry pi 3 for 2 years now and I never got around to my plans and I want to do something with it, any suggestions are good suggestions

PiHole is a functional use for it.

It's a firewall that blocks ads, malware sites, trackers, porn, whatever. It's at the DNS level, so it never even makes it to the downstream devices. Combined with a good ad blocker in your browser, you'll never see another ad again.

Install retro pie and turn into an emulator box.

Have mine hooked up to a CRT running toonamiaftermath or other old shows off a usb

Batocera perhaps .. it is supposedly a little lighter on resources and has a built in add on to download games (that you already own of course)

Batocera does not have any add-ons that allow you to download games.

(There may be unofficial add-ons that do, but they are not supported.)

RGSX games downloader add-on.. "built-in" was the wrong wording . But it's still an add-on available for Batocera

I'm glad it's clear that it's not a built-in feature (official feature), but an unsupported, unofficial add-on.

Yeah .. it's built in once you install the unofficial third party add-on and then it's an official feature of your particular install of Batocera but not endorsed by Batocera itself officially

Please note that if you install an unofficial add-on, you will not receive official support, even for issues unrelated to the add-on's functionality.

(You will be asked to perform a clean install to see if the same problem occurs.)

Go for Batocera, not retropie.
Batocera is still updating, retropie people didnt update since 2022.
Plus Retropie gives a lotta headaches...

Not 100% true Retropie is upto date 2026 via a manual install on bookworm 64bit lite for new installs or just run the script update from Retropie setup then the update option. It is arguably more upto date than Batocera as individual emulators are updated as and when the source is updated whereas Batocera you need to wait for next release. Ignore the website pre made images.
