Question mate, finally got everything running as we said, been a bit busy there....
Can you help though ? So if I exit out of GUI (Bookworm) Run Emulationstation everything runs as it should, sound / video all good etc, but Amiga and ST are very very slow and sound stuttering, I mean slow ! I can still Esc out and Ctrl/F1 or whatever so all running well, any ideas ?
Also CGPT helped me create a desktop shortcut which starts emulation fine, jumps into a Windo and the fullscreen but everything runs bad, sound / video so slow, can you help ?
I went through laods with Gemini and CPT but etill the same, I gave up etc

I thought you installed OS lite. It should not have a desktop its not needed and can cause slowdown due to overheads. Of you have done it right it should autoboot into Emulationstation.

Ah OK, yes I installed 64Bit OS Lite, but it boots to a desktop, very lightweight etc
I even had to install Chromium manually, then I bash'd the Retropie etc and ran all the updates, Samba'd all my Roms over fomr my Window PC, so was this the wrong way to do this for the Pi400 ?
I tried various Arcade Punks Torrents a while back, i've loas from over the years but none ran too good if I remember ! Is there on you could recommend from there etc ?
Thanks for your quick reply, oh and I dont mind starting aging if I have to, 3rd time lucky lol

Dont use a desktop is my recomendation launch straight into Emulationstation.
Cant discuss 3rd party images. Against the rules.

The best way at the moment is use Bookworm 64 bit Lite or Trixie 64 bit lite.
The follow these instructions from "Install RetroPie".
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Manual-Installation/
As I said before only discussions on the official image can be talked about here no 3rd party dodgy images.
Have a look at this for something extra

It would have been quicker and better to do a new manual install. Not sure what Pi64OS is but install Bookworm Lite 64bit and follow the Manual install setup.
Note if its updating emulators from source this can take a while.
