I have good insurance with good coverage. When parked at home it’s in a garage in a secure neighborhood but when out and about for hours at a time what do most people do? Ideally i don’t want to lug too many things along with me, i know if thieves want the bike they’ll take it. Any recommendations that are mandatory that you have personal experience with?

I built a street parking app because I was losing my mind circling my own block

I live in NYC and drive here. Like everyone else, I've spent a stupid amount of my life circling for parking, and I've eaten more alternate-side tickets than I want to admit.

So I spent the last several months building an app for it. It's called aSpot. Drivers report open and occupied spots, and the map shows you block-level availability in real time. It also reads NYC parking signs and tells you in plain English how long you can actually stay, and reminds you before your time runs out.

Honest state of things: it just got through Apple's beta review and I'm looking for real NYC drivers to break it. The map is only as good as the people on it, so right now it's thin. I'm specifically hoping to get enough people in a few neighborhoods that it's actually useful there instead of half-useful everywhere.

It's currently free. No ads. I'm not trying to sell anything yet.

I'm planning to buy a motorcycle in the next month. Is this a good time or should I just wait for the next summer. Honestly, it'll be worth it for me even if I could ride it from late September to the end of December. How difficult is it to ride in NYC winters? Would appreciate any thoughts, thanks!

Hey there - scooter rider here - moving on from my Piaggio Liberty 150, which I adored until it was hit and is now going away. Im looking to buy something with slightly more pep and torn between buying a 2022 Suzuki Burgman 200 and a 2024 Yamaha XMAX. The burgman is about 1/3 cheaper than the xmax, but the xmax is has about 1/3 larger capacity engine at 294CC. I mostly ride around the city, take the BQE, FDR, and west side highway often. I considered the Piaggio BV, but none were within my budget, and these were much better deals.

Any NYC rider experiences with these bikes are appreciated.

I am curious as to what you guys think are the least likely to get stolen, I love the looks of a triumph bonneville but wonder if this is desired by thieves? Would also take a Honda shadow but feel like im too young for a cruiser style bike hahahaha. LMK

I've been riding since the end of April and use my bike every single day—rain or shine. I've put close to 3,000 miles on it already, mostly commuting in NYC traffic.

My current bike is a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom. It was great to learn on—very forgiving and let me focus on the road while I figured out the basics. But now it's starting to feel sluggish, and honestly, I think I've outgrown it.

Originally, I was drawn to the Suzuki M109R. I know it's a beast, but after doing some research, I realized it's not practical for my commute. Stop-and-go traffic on the Van Wyck would just be a headache—it's not smooth at low speeds and just wants to go fast.

Now I've been looking into sport-tourers, and I'm pretty set on the Kawasaki Concours 14. It seems like a lot of bike for the money, and I've been seeing some solid deals on the used market.

I know the common advice is to wait at least a year before upgrading, but I'm not sure that applies to someone riding daily in NYC traffic. I'm not just chasing speed for the sake of it—I've been doing my research and I know what I want out of a bike: speed, utility, comfort. The Concours checks all those boxes.

Curious what you all think. Anyone made a similar jump? Or have experience with the Concours in the city?

UPDATE: I've been using my transponder assigned to my car. I think I need to get a separate transponder/tag for my Vespa?

Anyone else getting charged E-ZPass Mid-Tier rates on a scooter/motorcycle?

I recently rode through the Holland Tunnel during off-peak hours and got charged the $19.05 Mid-Tier motorcycle rate instead of the normal off-peak E-ZPass motorcycle rate which is $13.79

I had my E-ZPass transponder in my jacket pocket, which is actually how E-ZPass says motorcycle riders can carry it. My Vespa and plate are also registered to my E-ZPass account.

I'm assuming the overhead reader didn't pick up the transponder, read my plate instead, and automatically hit me with the Mid-Tier rate. Then I mounted the transponder on the outside of the right kneepad of my Vespa and still getting charged $19.05

Has this happened to anyone else?

For those of you who regularly ride through the Holland/Lincoln Tunnel or other E-ZPass crossings:

• Where do you keep your transponder?
• Does it reliably read from your jacket pocket?
• Where do you mount it on the scooter/motorcycle?
• Have you successfully gotten E-ZPass to refund or adjust Mid-Tier charges when the tag didn't read?

Classic carb issues made me put off getting my Yamaha xs400 running to get an inspection. Had it parked near a citibike station but it was towed.

I plan to grab it tomorrow but will have to tow it due to expired inspection/registration.

Looking for recommendations on bushwick/ridgewood area shops to bring it to that will be helpful in getting things back on track in terms of inspection paperwork and tune ups without fully killing me in cost.
