Finally located some 1919, in a tiny convenience store in tiny Strong City, KS. Can't wait to get it home to Arizona.

My local Walmart got the Ghost A&W in 3 days after the nationwide launch of August 29. What’s up with some people able to buy products weeks before these nationwide launch dates. Just a thought…. Stores in my area do good to get them in a few days after nationwide launch dates. Hope it’s a good one. I’ll report back sometime soon on how it is.

I’d say this is not quite what it had seemed. I’m not sure but perhaps The Lost Colony Brewery of the Outer Banks, NC had insinuated in the past on social media this was some sort of brewed in house special recipe but it’s just something that’s outsourced from a private label type company. Anyways another one for my collection. Thanks to Matthew for shipping me a couple of bottles.

On Tap is always the best! Got a chance to try the Vanilla Ice Cream, both alone and as a float. A bunch more flavors of ice cream available at Hyvee they said.

I’m not a big pumpkin spice person, but since we were in Salem, I had to give this a try. It was so good that I took a 4 pack home. Pumpkin isn’t overbearing and it isn’t too sweet or too rooty, just right.

I *do not* like energy drinks. This one in particular has a bunch of hokum ingredients and dubious claims on the can.

But this tasted like A&W root beer plus that trademark chemical taste from energy drinks. 2/10 for the root beer flavoring, although comparing this to any of my other soda ratings isn't fair.

Cantrip's 10mg THC Root Beer has a pleasant balance of sweetness, spice, & vanilla that compliments the herbal hemp punch. I’d say I’m enjoying the unique complex taste of this product. I got a 4 pack at Total Wine in Knoxville, TN.

Sprecher Maple Root Beer-

What it says on the tin. That definite Sprecher flavor profile that's one of my favorites, but with a hint of maple to make it interesting. But at nearly $5 at the register, this didn't wow me to warrant getting again. The stopper with the wire hinge is more annoying than novel. 6/10

Sioux City Sarsaparilla-

Incredibly subtle flavor that's completely blown away by the sweetness. Not nearly enough carbonation in this sample. The cap was incredibly difficult to twist off, which makes me think it wasn't put on properly. 0/10

My new favorite. It's a regional thing. Should be available everywhere in November.

I'm pretty high on this Root Beer. Heavy wintergreen flavor pretty smooth and great flavor. I wish it was a little more carbonation but definitely worth a try.

I was told by people it was there BEST root beer where I’m from and not gonna lie I left a little sad when I tried it because it doesn’t taste like root beer to me at all, Mabey I’m just too use to sassafras’s and winter green flavors because when I read on the back it said licorice extract and it was a unique flavor but not what I expected

Matthew’s Root Beer

This recipe gives you a more earthy, less sweet version of root beer than what you might be used to from the store. Feel free to adjust the sweetness and spices to suit your taste. If you're concerned about safety, you can skip the fermentation step and simply enjoy the root beer as a flat, non-carbonated drink, or carbonate it with a soda stream.

Ingredients:

- 4 cups water

- 1 tablespoon sassafras root bark (safrole-free, available from specialty herb shops)

- 1 tablespoon sarsaparilla root

- 1 tablespoon birch bark

- 1 tablespoon licorice root

- 1 teaspoon dried ginger root

- 1 cinnamon stick

- 1 teaspoon star anise (optional, for a spicier flavor)

- 1 vanilla bean, split (or 1 tablespoon vanilla extract)

- 1/2 cup molasses

- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar (adjust to taste)

- 1/4 cup honey

- 1/4 teaspoon yeast (brewer's yeast or champagne yeast for carbonation)

Instructions:

1. Boil the Water and Roots:
   

- In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.

- Add the sassafras root bark, sarsaparilla root, birch bark, licorice root, ginger root, cinnamon stick, and star anise.

- Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

1. Strain the Liquid:
   

- After simmering, remove the pot from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.

- Strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into another pot or large bowl, discarding the solid roots and spices.

1. Sweeten the Root Beer:
   

- While the liquid is still warm, add the molasses, brown sugar, and honey.

- Stir until all the sweeteners are fully dissolved.

1. Add Vanilla:
   

- Add the split vanilla bean to the liquid (or stir in vanilla extract if using that).

- Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes to infuse the vanilla flavor.

1. Fermentation (Optional for Carbonation):
   

- If you want your root beer naturally carbonated, dissolve the yeast in a small amount of lukewarm water and add it to the sweetened root beer mixture.

- Stir well to ensure the yeast is evenly distributed.

1. Bottle the Root Beer:
   

- Pour the root beer into sterilized bottles, leaving about an inch of space at the top.

- Seal the bottles tightly and let them sit at room temperature for 12 to 48 hours to allow fermentation. The longer they sit, the more carbonated the root beer will become.

1. Chill and Enjoy:
   

- Once the desired level of carbonation is reached, refrigerate the bottles to stop the fermentation process.

- Serve cold, preferably in a frosted mug!

Always worth the stop at the brewery if you ever pass through New Orleans. You can find it and a small amount of places outside the state in the general region. Sharp taste, holds a foam head like a beer, and scratches every itch I could want in a root beer. 😩❤️
