Parents Evaluating SPD before 1 year old?

Any parents of children with SPD who had it evaluated before 1 year old? What was the process like?

what makes you think your child has SPD? SPD isn’t really a diagnosis but usually an indicator of another diagnosis.

SPD can stand on its own but you’re right, it’s not an independent official diagnosis at this point. If OP is in a country with an insurance system then she will need to seek out a diagnosis that is covered by insurance or pay out of pocket.

LO has always been very sensitive compared to other babies in moms groups. Sensitive to loud noises, diaper changes, clothing changes, after bath, other people holding him who aren’t primary caregivers. Doesn’t like being contained in stroller car seat bouncers swings. Extremely active and needs to be upright and bounced. Always been a bad sleeper and needs very dark quiet environment to sleep, otherwise wakes immediately.

Thanks for sharing! Some of it can just be temperament. Not much you can do at this age honestly. Bring it up to your pediatrician it’s young to do any therapy or anything

I’m not sure a literal infant would ever be diagnosed with something like that, simply because they just havent had enough time to learn and adjust to the world yet

Can you share the symptoms you observe? I’m probably older than you but I had a mom who REALLY documented my childhood so while the term “sensory issues” wasn’t a thing back then, she did indeed document my behaviors and reactions….literally from birth.

Hi!!! I mean this in the kindest way as a high anxiety mom to a toddler. Are you potentially projecting some of your own difficulties onto your kid? Most of what you described is very normal 1 year old behavior, especially for kids who twnd to be more sensitive which is a normal temperament!

Hi, it’s possible! I know all of the behaviors are within the realm of normal but it’s more like they’re experiencing ALL of them. And it’s a gut feeling that I’ve had that they’re just more intense, and maybe worth evaluating sooner than later?
