Help with Damascus

My girlfriend loves Damascus, and is her hands down favorite, but I don’t know how to differentiate what is affordable, what is cheap trash, and what is expensive, I’m not looking for something for tournament use/ actual cutting/ practice, but if one day she drops it or tries to slice open a watermelon I don’t want it to fall apart. (AKA: mostly decorative but won’t fall apart if she picks it up and actually ships as pictured) I’m also not looking for a sharp as she would 100% want to take this to Renn fairs
What are some good vendors/ how do I find out what is real and what’s a scam?

Welcome!

What type of swords are you interested in, and do you have a budget you are working with? Some swords are more commonly made in patternwelded/Damascus styles (e.g. Chinese swords) and others much less common, and should be investigated with caution.

She likes falchion’s and short swords, but any other that isn’t curved she likes, budget is under 250, but again it’s mostly for decoration/costuming, I just don’t want it to fall apart on her or look bad

So you have this situation where you will need to be a little picky with the attributes you are interested in your sword;

  • Functional
  • Aesthetically Pleasing
  • Affordable

You'll be able to get away with two out of three; meaning if you want to have something that looks a specific way AND still be a functional sword, you will probably have to expand your budget.

There are inexpensive items that are 'falchions' or shortswords that use patternwelded blades, but most are decorative or non functional. |

An example of a 'reputable' pattern welded sword from the budget end, is this Arming sword for Swordier, that is just few bucks past your stated range.

I would prefer aesthetically pleasing and affordable, the only use it would get is being raised in the air and put in the sheath

First thing I thought about was this qama, but I have no experience with it so can't speak to it directly.

Any chance she likes game of thrones? This is a dark sister replica, scaled down a bit so it’s pretty short, and it’s “Damascus”

Only problem is shipping will put the price closer to like $300. They used to have a $129 version without a scabbard, but I think they took it down
