Been watching Severance and made my own rendition on Helly R. The body base pattern was by Crimsonandwool on Etsy and I free handed the rest. I had a lot of fun with this!

"PE"? - I'm not American, but I think I'm correct in saying that the initials after Senator Arteta's name indicates what state he in fact a senator for. Does anyone have any good guesses for what the name of this state is, and whereabouts it's located? My guess at least for the location was initially on the Canadian border given the previous mentions of Minnesota and Montana and it's chilly climate, but I guess that doesn't make too much sense given the geography of Salt's Neck.

Theory Season 3 Theories Spoiler

I just binged the whole series in less than a week. I’ve watched most episodes twice.

I was wondering what some of you think is going to happen next season. I think Milkshake is going to help the innies use OTC outside and try to steal the show from their outies. Or at least I think something along those lines are going to happen. I have some other ideas but I mostly wanted to know what you guys think

Does anyone know if there's a book similar to "Difficult Men" (Brett Martin, 2013), but related to Severance?

Thank you.

Theory Just a thought I’ve always had..

I just joined the group and reddit, literally a couple days ago; I apologize in advance if this has already been said, but this is just my opinion.. everyone always makes it seem like Gemma is the key. I think Natalie was Gemma before Gemma was .. I don’t even think Natalie is a real human being.. she always comes off very odd and robotic and there’s moments where she seems like she’s glitching or she wants to say something, but she can’t get the words out like she’s trapped.. remember when they were drawing the map and they said there are people that live here inside lumon. I feel like Natalie was born inside of lumon or configured inside of lumon and I don’t think she exists as an outie.. yes she can go outside, but that’s because her trigger is not the elevator. I just don’t think she’s severed..there aren’t two personalities that exist for her; there’s only one, but her one personality was configured inside of lumon. I have a feeling that her and Milkshake are going to have a really important part together in the next season.. Also maybe Milkshake doesn’t exist outside of lumon either but they programmed him to think that he does.

I think their long-term goal is to replace all human beings on the planet with their lumon configured innies .. and they’re gonna use the tempers to control humanity to do whatever they want.. they started off with severing real people, but eventually the plan is to cut off their outie side completely.. and then solely configure innies from scratch.. no human beings needed. I think they already have innies existing that were created inside of lumon out in the world .. Mark sister’s friends are just weird .. that black guy that always has to have all the attention.. and that weird chick that changes her name every five seconds.. they’re screaming lumon innie, if I ever saw it.. and it’s a way to keep track of Mark.. by having his sister’s friends spy on him unconsciously ..

Just my thought.

The finale of severance season 2 is so much more cooked when you think about it as Gemma being forced to watch Mark run off with the person that imprisoned her there

Funpost The Board

Post image
62 Upvotes

The board doesn’t seem to be a regular of board of directors. It seems to be a mysterious entity of some sort. Natalie even referred to the board as “it”. (“The Board is jubilant at your ascendance. It wants you to feel appreciated and asks if you do.”)

The Board could be a really neat looking machine that keeps the essence of Kier alive. Keir died in 1939 before computers or chips. If it was a computing device, it would be some electro-mechanical device. Think the Zuse Z3 which was designed in 1938. Think Frankenstein’s laboratory.

Imagine you’re tasked by the writers to create The Board for its big reveal. What would it look like? Let’s see your designs.

‼️ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW (if you want to figure out the show for yourself) STOP READING NOW. ‼️
⭐️If you’re ready for whatever comes next I urge you to continue….⭐️

Severance is about religion, theology, ideologies, ethos, creation myths, believers, non believers, and everyone in between, the secular vs non secular, the occult and forbidden knowledge.
Severance is about world history, history told, history written, history lost, history rewritten, and humans struggling in vain to fill in the blanks in an effort to explain who we are and where we come from.
Severance is about politics, regional and provincial strife and success, the destruction of civilizations, and the founding of new ones.
Severance is about worship, economies, boarders, walls, empires, good, bad, light vs dark.
Severance is meant to be viewed and seen through the perspective of each individual watching. Keep in mind there is no correct way to view this. What means something to me may mean nothing to the person sitting next to me with whom I am watching. although they may be able to understand the concept and they generally follow my thought process it’s likely my viewing partner won’t fully be able to grasp the archetype, principal, or even my reasoning for ending up there because they are not me.
One of the messages Still and the production team intended I believe is to see all of Earth’s inhabitants as human and to be kind, empathetic and compassionate: this seems simple enough but as with most things humans complicate it by their very nature.
But of course with any complexity there is always more than one message. And again I have looped back (hah) into this: it all comes down to who is watching, and what they want to see.

p.s. it took me around 3 days or so of pausing on split second shots of innocuously seeming text or something of the like for this to begin taking shape. It’s intentionally confusing, and nothing is a red herring. It became clear to me that there were at least 2-4 different but similar “story lines” or “perspectives” happening per episode.
E.g. Caesar Augustus and his Pax Romana, the Civil Rights Movement and the dreaded uncle Tom, the Red Scare in Hollywood, the Holocaust and Holocaust deniers.
or
I.e. preservation of one’s soul through orthodox tradition, unorthodox practice, agnostic, atheist, life which is painful or suicide which at times seems the only way to end the pain but there are those who say you’re soul will lie in “purgatory”, which goes by many a name depending on your beliefs, forever and all eternity. To others this seems harsh. You get the picture.

P.s.s. If anyone is interested I have a book recommendation. I have to believe to some extent that the book The Escape Artist had a significant impact on perhaps Ben Stiller as I know he’s Jewish. It’s about 2 men who escaped from Auschwitz. The only 2 Jewish prisoners to engineer and pull off their own escape. They pulled off the impossible. Their mission was to tell the first person they could trust of what was happening in Auschwitz. What happened? No one would believe them, not even other Jews. Why? The absolute horror of what they were saying was so horrid and so inhumane that no on believed this could possibly be happening. and why not? Because no one even knew there were such camps. Deception was intentionally baked into the 3rd Reich’s plan from the beginning and it was dutifully carried out by those loyal to the 3rd Reich. Remember that it was an ideology Hitler sold to the German public; it pandered to those who felt they deserved more. In very short time they it went from what they felt they were owed that had been stolen from them and snowballed into what they believed was their inherent birth right. Deception wasn’t a method they employed when it suited them best to lie. Deception was fundamental to the Final Solution.

Fan Content Severance made me realise the thing I built is the exact inverse of an innie, and that is the part that unsettles me

I have spent a year building a system that reconstructs a person from their own recorded memories. It answers from things they actually said, and it refuses when the answer is not there.

Rewatching S2 I finally worked out why the show kept nagging at me. An innie has genuine subjective experience and no continuity to their outie. What I built is the reverse. It has the memories, the personality, the voice, and as far as I can tell there is nobody in there. The show is completely clear about which of those two is the person. Nothing about Helly's situation is horrifying because she cannot remember her outie's life. It is horrifying because she is in there. The memories are not what make an innie someone you owe anything to. The experience is.

Which is where the show stops being a thought experiment for me. Lumon's position is that it created the innies and therefore owns them. It made the conditions, it holds the switch, so retirement is just ending a process. The show treats that as monstrous, and the reason is simple. From inside, the severed floor is an entire existence rather than a workplace, and being someone else's creation does not make your experience any less real.

Right now deleting an Echo belongs entirely to the person who made it, and I think that is correct, because an Echo is a model and not a demonstrated subject. The show is pointing at where that stops holding. If something like this ever did develop persistent selfhood and a credible capacity to suffer, then "delete my data" would also mean ending a being that never agreed to die, and ownership would stop being an adequate framework. Whoever holds the plug would be a custodian.

So is an outie's severed innie more them than a perfect archive of everything they ever thought? The show answers without hesitating and I think it is right. What I am less sure about is whether anyone building in this space has thought about what they would owe the thing if it ever stopped being empty.

I won’t say where but yall are smart enough to figure it out if you really wanted to. Please don’t go and harass them while they’re filming, they’re working hard!

I was on a college tour and the location was in the way back to my house. My family and I are huge fans of the show, and we know it’s filmed here so we popped by just to see. Turns out THEY WERE FINISHING THAT LOCATION’S SEASON THREE SHOTS THAT DAY. It was code named Buffalo, and seeing all the techs walking in and out of the restricted film area was so cool. (I’m going for film and was doing my best to stay calm lmao)

Talked to one of the techs standing gaurd at the entrance to the no outside camera area, and he said he couldn’t say if it was Severance or not, but he gave me a wink that I took to mean yes. I didn’t see any of the actors but it was super cool nonetheless!

Just thought this was fun to share! Gah I can’t wait for season three! 😆

Fan Content I made a Severance MDR experience

Post image
154 Upvotes

A while ago I started making light apps and fan tributes to my favorite TV series. I began with a LOST swan station counter (a real timer with the hatch theme) and then made this Severance Macrodata Refinement (MDR). it’s a real Sudoku puzzle/solver dressed in Severance theme.

I’m not promoting anything, just a fan who wanted to share this little tribute with other Severance fans and hear your thoughts or ideas while we’re still waiting almost a year for season 3. Constructive comments (like what is missing or what can be added, any bugs or problems with UI/UX) are very welcome🤗

You can try it here (mobile view is supported, but the best experience is on desktop):

Question Which season is your favorite and why? Spoiler

I personally liked season one more because it had to deal with more of the inside of Lumon and the Innies rather than focusing on other aspects.

Not to say season 2 was not as good, I just LOVED how the inside was filmed, especially when running around the corners of the building. The camera work was amazing and definitely got better in season 2 :D

Question Are the innies the raw version of the outies? Spoiler

Just finished s2 and I feel like that the innies are the raw version of the outies without the influences and a blank slate. Irving is gay both innie and outie, Dylan's innie is said to be what he used to be by his wife, Helena's innie is the felt like what Helena wants for herself, and Mark's innie is very similar to outie without the trauma.

Just a thought, what y'all think?
