Upcycle Dilemma

Trying to tailor a man’s shirt to fit but the arm hole is a good 6 inches bigger than my sleeve. Don’t know how to fix this! Please help

Did you tighten the sleeve at the same time you shortened it? If so, then you also needed to re-draft the armscye to be smaller as well.

But shortening also would have made the sleevehead smaller because sleeves tend to be smaller farther down - they aren’t straight cylinders.

So. Both would mean needing to re-draft a smaller armscye.

I didn’t tighten the sleeve but I did shorten it. Ugh I’m so overwhelmed right now lol. Rookie mistakes were made 😕

Mistakes are the best way to learn. It can definitely be frustrating, but you're doing great and will only get better.

I'm assuming you shortened from the top? I would recommend removing the cuff and shortening from the bottom of the sleeve next time. It's way more forgiving to be able to ease the sleeve back into the cuff, especially if you're only shortening and not making it tighter.

ETA sorry, half asleep. I just noticed that it's a men's shirt and you might be shortening it way more than I would recommend doing at the cuff , depending on the length. Unfortunately taking more than about 1.5 inches can get dicey with the button situation.
