Again after getting a full shiny team I’ve stopped counting resets but this is my 8th shiny on gen3 full odds. Definitely my longest hunt by far, if I had to guess the resets I’d say around 4000+

Started learning pokeradar hunts last night after finishing platinum for the first time, got to a chain of 38 and broke the combo after hours of trying so called it a night. First chain this morning and got him to shine at only a 9 combo! My all time favourite evolution line!

I've added the Japanese support site as well since I feel like they might pay more attention there since they're a Japanese Company after all, so submit requests to all supports sites if you can. Feel free to add your own suggestions as well like physical peripherals that they can sell.
The 3DS eshop is still accessible and you can download games you already own/bought and can receive software updates for them. Of course, for the Pokemon Company to be able to push a software update, they'll need to cooperate with Nintendo. Nintendo partners/third-party developers can't push anymore software updates since Nintendo has disabled the application that manages the SDK, but the Pokémon Company isn't a normal partner and is co-owned by Nintendo. Pokemon Bank has recieved special treatment already since Pokemon Bank stayed up even after 3DS and Wii U online services shut down. Game Freak also probably still has access to the source code and the SDK for 3DS, the teraleak is proof of that. Nintendo has also been known to provide older SDKs for development to recompile games like for Nintendo Switch Online, the FRLG switch port is an example of that since the events are included. I know it may be unlikely to get Nintendo and TPC to listen to us, but this is better than nothing and is our best option.
Pokemon Bank is the bridge between the old generations and the new generations. Bringing Pokemon from the old generations is one of Game Freak's greatest inventions and is a staple of the main series games in my opinion. The shutdown of Pokemon Bank will result in several Pokemon being unobtainable. A homebrew software known as PKSM has proved that local connection between 3DS and Switch is technically possible, so they could rework bank and HOME to locally connect from the 3DS side. Pokémon Bank is a software that can definitely be functional offline if TPC made an effort and this wouldn't have been an issue at all.
Pokémon Bank and Transporter is also needed to transfer Pokémon from the Virtual Console games to gen 7, to transfer gen 5 pokemon to gen 6/7 and to transfer gen 6 pokemon to gen 7. So the shutdown of Bank will also result in Pokémon being unobtainable in the 3DS games alone as well (through official means).
I have a feeling that after the success of the FRLG switch ports, they're going to port all the other gens to switch and allow them to connect to HOME, but who knows how long that'll take. I just think it's an uncool solution since they're making people who already own these games rebuy digital versions of these games at full price which would only harm the long-time players and is just unfair and demotivating to them.
Please send request tickets so they know we don't want bank and transferring old Pokémon to be gone. I know this may be disruptive to flood them with requests, but this is our best chance to reverse this decision and it's important to the future of Pokémon. I think this goes against what Pokémon stands for.

So I just got shiny Celebi Yesterday and now in a little over 100 SRs, I got shiny Poipole. This is the quickest back to back shinies I've gotten so far. Now on to breeding a bunch of Magikarp eggs to fill up the pc before starting Type: Null. Good luck hunting.

Well it finally happened, I got my target and my nightmare scenario all at once last night and I'm still coming to terms with this fail. I saved like a millisecond before day rolls over, leaving me stuck in this cycle of never getting there in time to capture it 😭 Oh well, the hunt continues! Enjoy this fail 😝

I wasn’t keeping track of resets but it had to be only a few hundred. Not only was I lucky with the resets but it’s also a great nature and stats!

All pokemon caught in Pokemon Red, some of which were caught using the trainer fly glitch, and all were made shiny using 8F. During the entire process I only made 2 mistakes, one Psyduck wasn't shiny and I transferred all the Pokemon to switch before getting the alolan evos so i had to get another Pikachu, Exeggecute, and Cubone.

I set a personal goal for myself to hunt as many water type shinies as I could within the month of August. Heres how it went.
To start, I made a list of 160 unique pokemon/forms to hunt. Not present were any unhuntable mon in console games (urshifu, walking wake), mon that are only water in temporary forms (arceus, silvally, castform, ogerpon), and mythicals except phione since that can be masuda hunted (Im not about to try to complete the infamous Manaphy hunt in a single month)
During the month, I completed 152 of these hunts and caught 82 phases (not counting the phases I didnt keep due to resetting over them to conserve herba mystica. The total phase count was probably closer to 110-120)
The 8 I missed out on were kabuto, kabutops, suicune, palpitoad, seismitoad, carracosta, tapu fini, and arctovish.
Heres a breakdown of which games I hunted the most in, how many water type shinies I caught in each, (and how many of them were new to my tally for the month)
SV - 95 (74)
ZA - 44 (31)
PLA - 23 (18)
XY - 10 (9)
USUM - 8 (8)
SWSH - 6 (5)
Lets Go - 5 (4)
ORAS - 3 (3)
1st shiny: Milotic. She got me to day 2 at NAIC this year, so I knew without a doubt I had to hunt a partner for her as my first target. Thankfully the start of the month lined up with the feebas event outbreaks in sv, so it was a pretty easy hunt to get the ball rolling for the month
Last shiny: Tirtouga. I started this hunt with masuda in shield the 29th with the hope of finding the shiny during worlds. Unfortunately it waited a bit too long to shine, but at least it made it in before end of day on the 31st to count toward my total for the month
Most : 5 binacle (while resetting a hyperspace zone looking for blastoise)
Honorable mentions to the 4 gyarados I got while hunting tatsugiri outbreaks to get all 3 forms. Casseroya lake did its best lake of rage impression for me this month.
Longest hunt:
Kyogre: 1929 SR encounters in UM, 1.4x odds (disclaimer: most werent tracked. Blue shellos in PLA and frillish in US definitely felt longer as a % of their odds, but I wasnt counting encounters outside of eggs, SRs, fossils, or dynamax adventures. This also doesnt count failed hunts due to running out of time. I was over 2x odds for palpitoad in AS and tapu fini in Shield when the month ended, but since those hunts arent over I cant say for sure how long they’ll be yet)
Shortest hunt:
Dracovish: 0.03x odds. I got it in 122 fossil restores, this is possibly the luckiest full odds hunt Ive ever had. I had very little confidence Id get either of the galar fossils within the month, but dracovish decided to be kind)
Favorite method:
Either sandwiches or chain fishing. Sandwiches because isolating hunts and looking for shinies feels very engaging for me. The overworld sparkles in legends games are great, but theres something about SV hunts where spotting the mon can sometimes be the hardest part that I enjoy.
Chain fishing because its just so fast, but not mindlessly clicking buttons like ZA’s fast methods. I cant argue with the results of fly resets or hyperspace warp pads, but chain fishing is much more fun for me. Its more active and theres an element of suspense with each catch, but you can reliably get your target in an hour or two still so it doesnt drag on.
Least favorite method:
Gotta be pokeradar. I know it has fans, but Im not one of them. It just feels so tedious to set up the hunt, and the hunt itself felt boring to me. Plus the mon you can get from it in platinum where its the most well documented have almost 1:1 overlap with PLA and thats a much more fun game to hunt in.
Favorite game:
PLA hands down. The overworld shiny sound in this game is great, controls make it fun to traverse the map. The methods are fun, rolling the dice with MMOs, hitting the occasional high odds targeted MO, or just planning a route and flying around to hunt spawns. Permutations are a pain, so I didnt try, but getting my targets without them was east enough.
Least favorite game:
Lets go. The dex gives limited options to hunt, its a lot of waiting around, and the catching mechanic can be frustrating. I gave up chain catching and ended up ‘hunting’ by just popping a lure, getting to a 31 catch chain, then focusing on chain fishing on my 3ds while waiting for area spawns to cycle until one ended up shiny. Not an exciting experience. Thankfully there werent too many gen 1 water types that werent much easier to hunt in other games.
Rarest find:
Rare mark shiny Buizel I got in Violet while hunting for water tauros. It was sitting there waiting for me when I flew over to the area by the river between the desert and porto marinada before I even made my sandwich, and on violet which I dont have the dlc for, so it was shiny charm odds only with no mark boosts!
Biggest blunder:
Palkia… I have no excuse on this one. I got it to shiny in 69(nice) encounters doing SRs in UM, immediately went to go transfer it into home. Pro tip: remember to SAVE YOUR GAME before closing it, bad things will happen if you dont, speaking from experience. Thankfully the god of space was feeling merciful and let me reclaim my pink lad in just 527 more SRs, so I still ended under half odds for the hunt.
Final thoughts:
I had a blast with this challenge, and ended up way closer to my goal than I wouldve ever guessed. I plan to take my foot off the gas with my shiny hunting for the next month or so, but I’ll definitely be back with another catch ‘em all challenge for myself in the future. Water was an ambitious type to start with, but I dont regret it. If this sounds like fun to anyone, I strongly recommend picking your favorite gen, type, or other creative goal and see how many you can catch in a time limit.

(Btw I do have a pic when it was a charmander… except it’s a Snapchat save I sent to my buddies right after I got it and there’s a lil swearing involved.) so frlg came out on the switch on 02/27/26, I made the decision that I was gonna get a shiny charmander before i played fire red. I got this bad boy on 08/28/26 at 03:30ish, so about over 6 months. Now I was on and off shiny hunting this guy, was shiny hunting a shiny mudkip on omega ruby before this. Misclicked and lucked out and got a shiny torchic right before pokemon day. Got a shiny team for that game, even shiny hunted 3 legendaries. Started playing ultra sun right after and made a shiny team for that game, and shiny hunted the legendaries that I wanted on that game and right after that, I started playing ultra moon to get the shiny legendaries i wanted before pokemon bank closes. So last Wednesday, I thought about rng manipulating my charmander and made the decision I was gonna do it in the morning after work, I was gonna watch the imablisy video for the 8th time but this time I was set. I was not stopping till I got it! Before I headed off to work, I normally bring my 3DS to play on my breaks, I took my switch, thinking I can try one more time. I roared in excitement in my car and hoped like hell that no one saw me when I saw that golden fire lizard with that gold star. Immediately saved and sent a pic to my buddies and girlfriend. Checked my time on my switch and I clocked in 55 hours of just shiny hunting this Pokemon. Charmander is my forever starter since my days of playing pokemon blue. To be able to get it as a full odds before gen 6, shiny Pokémon is a childhood Lifelong achievement that I finally accomplished. I’m just glad I’m able to share it all with you all and wish you all luck on future hunts!
