My wife and I both need something very different. And she needs something super cool. We ended up with the purple mattress plus. It's got a pad on top that keeps you cool.

We also needed a really high quality duvet made with silk and divet cover made of linen. It allows heat to escape very well.

The duvet is where it's at for temp if you wash comforters they start trapping heat quickly. With the duvet you never wash it swap the cover and wash that. Linen and silk are great at letting heat escape but keep you just the right amount of warm.

I did not know silk was an option for a duvet. I know what I’m shopping for next! Does she prefer the silk or linen more?

We found the silk duvet and linen duvet cover to be the best balance of cost/ durability and cooling.

The linen duvet is more durable than silk and easier to clean but almost as cool.

Edit I think we bought mulberry silk insert and absolutely love it we have tried silk duvet cover, bamboo duvet cover and linen duvet cover and preferred the linen.

One point of note, linen is a very good fabric for cooling. But you have to be careful when shopping for it. I recently learned that a lot of linen isn’t produced in the traditional way and loses some of its cooling ability as a result.

Instead of using the long fibers of the flax stalk they often get chopped up to make use of the infrastructure we have for processing cotton.

Same for silk the duvet insert is pretty hard to find a good one and there is a lot of misinformation. I had to do a lot of research before I found one that was confirmed to be good quality and not an insane price. But I have had it for 4 or 5 years and it's still super awesome we got a few covers and we just swap it out once a week.

Honestly I wish someone had let me know how much nicer the duvet is than traditional comforters I used my whole life.

Latex is generally cool since you don't sink into latex like memory foam. It also doesn't form to your body shape. You lay ontop off the latex and it pushes against you. You'll also want to take a look at what type of covering it has, cotton would be cooler than polyester.

Soft mattresses sound good on paper and they seem really easy to market (soft = good, hard = bad), but if you have back problems then you will have a tough time getting up every morning. You need some firmness.

I mean there is a really easy fix, don’t buy these mattresses if you have back problems

Essentially makes my back muscles tense because ab muscles relax into the soft mattress leading to back pain
