Donkey

I heard a theory that he's the most important character in the first movie. And that's beacuse he does three things: 1) He really help Shrek to open up to others 2) He's the one who knew about Fiona's secret, and he also talks to her, about telling Shrek the truth and 3) He helps out Shrek to get to the wedding on time, after he assure's him, that Fiona wasn't talking about him, when she talks about "Monster".

Not really a theory but is a overlooked truth because you're right. In Shrek 4 before signing the contract to Rumple. He joked he wanted to erase the day he met Donkey but Donkey improved Shrek's life greatly. Donkey also helped Shrek survive long enough to break the contract and he also gave him the way to free him from the curse. So Donkey in Shrek 4:

  1. Taught him how to break the curse by folding shrek's contract to reveal the escape clause.

  2. and found Fiona (indirectly by smelling the waffles, but still led Shrek were he wanted).

  3. Contributed in rescuing Fiona and Shrek from the Pied Piper (Puss made that happen).

  4. Ambushed Rumple and the witches to help imprisoned Shrek and Fiona.

So had Rumple knew how important Donkey was to Shrek's life, Rumple was going to win. Shrek would have been alone with no one to help with the Dragon (assuming the dragon was going to find out Shrek came to rescue Fiona) and help Shrek bond with Fiona, etc. Shrek dodged a bullet if we assume he was never going to find Donkey in any other way had he signed such contract.

Bro, the movie is called Shrek. If we're talking about importance how would Donkey even be a character without Shrek?

I wrote that he's most important, not that he's the main character. That's two different things. Without him, there would be no happy ending for Shrek and Fiona. The hero of this movie IS Shrek.

See, the main character is the most important, by, guess what, the virtue of being the main character. They're not two different things. I ask again, how would Donkey exist without the character Shrek?

fr donkey is important but the movie is called shrek with out him, well there is no movie. so yes donkey is an important character but not as important as shrek. if you remove donkey the story would go differently but it’d still be a shrek movie. if you remove shrek then you don’t have a movie.

it’s like watching harry potter and saying hermoine is the most important character. she is important but she would not exist if harry potter was never made.
