Looking to make friends

Hi All,

Ive (34f) recently moved to Shrewsbury with my boyfriend. I'm struggling with finding new things to do and meeting new people. Ive gone from a pretty social life (coming from Liverpool) and now working from home.

I'd love to meet some new faces and start establishing some friendships and hobbies. Does anyone know if theres an active Discord server? :)

UKPC Charge McDonalds Meole Brace

Has anyone ever been stung by one of these parking charges? If there are signs, they're in no way obvious on entering or where I parked. I've submitted an appeal but as far as I can tell, the company is a massive scam operation so I doubt i'll get anywhere and have to suck it up and pay £50 eventually. I need to head back there and take some pictures when they eventually reject the appeal. I was there less than 2 hours catching up with an old friend but more than the 90 minute limit.

Best gym for (later) night gym sessions?

Hello! I’m (28F) looking at changing my gym membership from PureGym to somewhere else, ideally somewhere with the gym open until at least 10pm but struggling to decide. I’m debating bannatyne, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about their gym, any opinions on bannatyne? I can’t afford David Lloyd prices because I’m not a millionaire, so something relatively affordable would be ideal. Any suggestions that aren’t PureGym or JD?

Where to eat Lincolnshire sausages?

Hi Shrewsbury Reddit. I have a peculiar question: do you know of any restaurants that have Lincolnshire sausages in their menu? I'm not from the UK and for some strange reason, a pork sausage flavoured with sage just sounds really good to me. I'll be in Shrewsbury for a couple of days, but won't have a kitchen where I'm staying, so raw sausage from the supermarket wouldn't be an option unfortunately.

Looking for photos of Rowley the lion

Hi.

I'm looking for photos of Rowley the lion. Not the mascot but the animatronic who used to appear during the holidays in the pride hill centre.

I'm also looking for photos of the Easter bunny displays that existed in the early 90s in both centres.

Thankyou

Other people having bad wifi this week?

It's been basically unusable for the last week, but improves past midnight.
I'm on the North side of town

Could be related to infrastructure damage after the recent heat.

This is it during the day, and it still completely cuts off every other minute or so:

before the heatwave the rates were around 25 | 45 mbps

Places with air con

We are coming to the Shropshire Hills for a few days this week with our dog and it’s looking to be very hot. Any recommendations of dog friendly places with air con or walks where he can paddle and cool down would be super helpful. We are staying near Church Stretton but have a car so can travel. Thank you!

Thinking of visiting Shrewsbury for a day

I’ve got a day off next week and was thinking of visiting Shrewsbury as it’s not too far from me and I never been before. I normally end up going to Manchester but it’s just so busy and I fancy visiting somewhere where I can just bimble around.

Thoughts on moving to these neighbourhoods

I grew up in Shropshire but haven't lived there for 15 years and looking to move to Shrewsbury. Budget wise looking at £350k-£400k and being realistic probably can't afford Coleham or really close to Town Centre and also keen to avoid flooding spots!

We're a professional couple in 30s thinking about kids but we've been in a city so keen to have some amenities nearby.

Thoughts on the following areas?

Meole Brace

Bayston Hill

Bicton Heath

Castlefields

Underdale

The area near Shrewbsury College?

Looking for work.

Hi I'm desperate for work i am able to work bars and clubs pubs. 8 years hospitality, I have warehouse experience, my only issue is I really can't lift heavy items. I have a full driving license and my own transport I can start as soon as tomorrow morning Friday 11:30am and happy to do a full days work. Im also happy to some of the grunt work. And tidy up stuff like that. I can do some gardening. I have pictures of what I've done for my friends house I also extended her driveway. Can do just a small amount of anything really as long as I have some knowledge of it. And training is provided. If there is anything. I'd be happy to send over my cv. Thank you I'm also 35 if that helps at all.

Somewhere to display artwork?

Hi, I'm Lucie. I have a Master's degree in Fine Art, and I moved from Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury last year.

I'm working hard to make painting my full-time job, but at the moment I'm also doing a lot of dog sitting to help pay the bills.

If you're based in or around Shrewsbury and know of any venues or businesses that might be interested in displaying or selling artwork by a local artist, I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

I'm open to a range of options, including:

• Displaying my existing paintings and taking commission if they sell

• Selling paintings wholesale for resale or simply to display as décor

• Creating a brand-new collection tailored to a venue or putting together a solo exhibition

• Supplying prints of my work, either wholesale or on a commission basis

If you know of any cafés, restaurants, hotels, offices, independent shops, or other businesses that might be interested, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks so much!

I'll add some photos of my work - my main thing is abstract landscapes, but I also do house/building portraits 😊🙏

Hey guys! Quick question about getting to the battlefield.

As it says, me and a friend are arriving in Shrewsbury Saturday morning and plan on checking out the battle reenactment. What's the best way to go from the train station to the battlefield? There seems to be a bus every two or three hours which isn't ideal. Is Uber/taxi the best bet? Seems a little too far to walk.

Thanks in advance, can't wait to come check out your town.

Dog walks in Shrewsbury

Hi. Can anyone recommend dog walks in and around Shrewsbury? I am based in Wentnor for a few weeks and am planning days out in Shrewsbury.

I have parked at Coleham and walked my dog over the bridge and up and around the quarry but am looking for more. Off lead stuff in woods and reserves.

Thanks in advance.

Post-wedding restaurant recommendations

Hello. My fiancé and I are having a small wedding ceremony in the registry office. We will have 8 guests, so 10 of us total. The ideal option would be Dough and Oil but no bookings possible there! Ideally looking for not a big chain and fairly central, and it doesn't have to be super fancy. So many good options in Shrewsbury but a bit blinded by choice!
