Hindustani classical concert in Reading on 12 Sep — about 25 min up the road, posting in case it's of interest here

Posting this here because there isn't much live Indian classical music between here and London, and this one's close.

Saturday 12 September, 6pm, the Great Hall at the University of Reading. Pandit Debasis Chakroborty on Indian slide guitar, Sam Evans on tabla, Giuliano Modarelli on guitar. First half is pure raga, second half is fusion.

Roughly 25 minutes by car, or the train to Reading and a short bus. £15–£27. I help out with the organisers, KalaSudha — mods, happy to take this down if local event posts aren't welcome.

Please help me with a Royal Mail parcel stuck in Slough

Hi everyone, I’m really hoping someone local to Slough might be able to help me because I honestly don’t know what else to do.

I sent a Royal Mail Tracked 24 parcel from Birmingham to Langley Post Office for my sister to collect. I specifically told the Post Office when sending it that it was meant to be for local collection.

The Royal Mail tracking then showed that it had been delivered to the nominated collection point in Langley and was ready to collect. However, when the recipient went to Langley Post Office, the staff member told her that it hadn't actually been set up correctly as Local Collect and that they had sent the parcel to the Slough Delivery Office.

The tracking is now stuck on pending for pickup. Royal Mail customer service told me that it will eventually be sent to the National Returns Centre in Belfast if someone doesn't go to the Slough Delivery Office to pick it up.

I’m honestly desperate to avoid that if there is any way. It’s a very personal/sentimental gift and I really don't want it travelling all the way through the returns process and potentially getting lost, especially since they told me it could take more than a month to get back to me (and even then there’s no guarantee it won’t go missing).

Would anyone who is local to Slough be able to help me out? Ideally, I’m looking for someone who could go to the Slough Delivery Office on Monday and either pick the parcel up for me, or at the very least check with them and confirm that the parcel is actually there, the reason I am asking is because my sister has already been once to the office and they claimed that the parcel isn't there, yet when we called Royal Mail they said that it is now and it's possible that the people at the office just forgot to scan it in, so they couldn't find it.

It’s a parcel for my sister and she lives a bit far away, so it would be really difficult for her to travel all the way there herself only to find out that the parcel isn't actually there.

I know this is a bit of a weird request and I obviously wouldn’t expect anyone to do anything they’re not comfortable with. I’m just really hoping someone local might be able to help me figure out where the parcel actually is.

I’d seriously appreciate any help ❤️

Official Petition Calling for a Pause on Data Centre Development - Nov 26 Deadline

https://democracy.slough.gov.uk/mgEPetitionDisplay.aspx?id=129&utm_source=ig&utm_medium=social&utm_content=link_in_bio&fbclid=PAdGRleATvwHtwZG9mAmZkaWQWUMqLeWBEkxuALoJa939AjtrgscUlU2V4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDzEyNDAyNDU3NDI4NzQxNAABp6tTVyAVcSG53syNWNxPxEQTrelW77YgS2tEuf0arFzPG-y_S3dnadzImTal_aem_ob1yYjolhDXMdsRyR1VDGg

Data centres are often presented as drivers of economic growth and digital transformation. Yet Slough is already the second largest data centre hub in the world, behind only Northern Virginia in the United States. Many residents are left asking: what has Slough gained in return?

Instead, residents have raised concerns about increasing pressure on the electricity grid and water supply, continuous noise from cooling equipment and backup generators, and the loss of strategic development land. The former AkzoNobel site, where outline planning permission had been secured for up to 1,000 homes, is now being developed as a hyperscale data centre.

Most concerning still, research has suggested that clusters of data centres can contribute to an urban heat island effect, with nearby temperatures increasing by as much as 9°C. The Guardian has described Slough as an "experiment" in the concentration of data centres.

Residents have already raised concerns about the impact of data centres on their daily lives, but there has never been a comprehensive independent assessment of these reported impacts. Equally, the cumulative short and long-term effects of hosting one of the world's largest concentrations of data centres remain poorly understood.

With the life expectancy of Slough residents already lower than the national average, we cannot afford to further risk our health and quality of life.

Slough should not become an experiment.

We are calling on Slough Borough Council to pause the approval of new data centre developments until an independent assessment has been carried out into their cumulative impact on residents, infrastructure and the environment.

If you believe Slough deserves growth that puts residents first, please add your name to this petition.
This ePetition runs from 17/08/2026 to 16/11/2026.

Parking Space in Slough

I'm looking for a long term parking space in Slough for up to one year. Any ideas where I can find something reasonable? The websites are quite pricey like just park etc. I was hoping someone might know someone or maybe I'm missing something. It needs to be secure though as I know some parts of Slough like town centre and Chalvey are a bit rough.

Moving into Slough

Hello everyone,
I am moving in to Slough next month and I wanted to get a general feeling of the area. I’ll be leaving 5m away from the station, north on Stoke Road.
People living here for a while, how did the city evolved in the last years? I know Slough has a really bad rep but I am hopeful that the Elizabeth line changed that a bit?
Things to do, independent cool business, general vibes, petty crime?
Thank you and see you around

Team labs still open?

I've been seeing a few social media posts about the team labs at the observatory mall here in Slough and I'm wondering if it's still open or was just a temporary exhibit. Can't seem to find it anywhere online other than a few people's social media posts

Dachet protest?

I attempted to drive down Ditton Road in Datchet today and there were two blokes blocking the road on motor cross bikes stopping people driving down and what looked to be a protest on the road further down. Does anyone know what this was about?
