Wignette fine

Hi. I was on vacation in Slovakia (a beautiful country) and I didn't know that buying a vignette was required (it was my first time taking a road trip abroad). I was there for 10 days and used the highway every day... so I'm expecting 8 more letters because I've already received two. I paid the first one, and I just opened the second one and see that I can appeal if I've already received and paid such a fine in the last 12 months. Did I understand this correctly?

It depends on whether those 10 days fell within a single month or overlapped two months. You can receive only one fine per month.

Regarding the paragraph you cited: After paying the fine, did you purchase the e‑vignette? I assume not.

§ 12 (1) Okresný úrad vec odloží, ak: f) prevádzkovateľovi vozidla bola už v predchádzajúcich 12 mesiacoch uložená pokuta za porušenie povinnosti podľa § 4 odsek 2, pokuta bola uhradená a prevádzkovateľ vozidla uhradil diaľničnú známku podľa § 3 odsek 1.

§ 12(1) The district office shall dismiss the case if:
(f) the vehicle operator has already been fined in the preceding 12 months for a breach of the obligation under § 4(2), the fine has been paid, and the vehicle operator has paid the e‑vignette pursuant to § 3(1).

This provision refers to a situation where the vehicle operator was fined in the previous 12 months, paid that fine, and also paid the e‑vignette. In that case, the district office would dismiss the matter.
