Thinking smoking pot wouldnt trigger me to want other drugs again

My main DOC was always blow and alc. I was a daily smoker too šŸƒ and when i got sober i did quit everything, but ended up smoking pot on occasion later on because cravings for my DOC would get so bad some days that it would help subside it, as my naltrexone wasn’t cutting it. I got switched to subutex and it’s been great ever since! I didn’t smoke for like 4 months after that, virtually no cravings for anything. I folded and ended up smoking a joint when it was offered to me 4 days ago šŸ˜ž I don’t know why i didn’t say no. I didn’t have any cravings and I feel like I could’ve refrained but said fuck it, it’s just pot. Not like it’s a drink or crack. I regret it so bad now. I feel like cravings for other drugs and šŸƒ have gotten worse now ever since, and wasn’t expecting it as that’s never happened to me with weed before. Cried in my boyfriends arms bc I was upset I couldn’t smoke even just weed again. Upset that I was craving any drug also. I’m just so mad at myself i said yes to that joint not knowing it would make me spiral like this.

All or nothing in my household.

Everyone is different but cannabis helps keep me sane and calm with no urges to do anything else besides the occasional mushroom.

Alcohol will get me doing blow or whatever.

I've been Cali sober for a year now and it's going great

I'm the same, and I do. I didn't smoke much before I stopped drinking, which could make a difference...

Getting put on subutex without an existing opiate addiction is crazy work

"It was great ever since!!"

Well no shit, you're probably high as hell off the bupe.

What doctor puts someone without opiate addiction on f'n subutex?

The point we are making is that subutex is usually used to treat severe opiate addiction either to help with withdrawals for a short time or as MAT long term to prevent relapsing.

The catch is that subutex is its own beast and can be even harder to get off than the original drug once you become physically dependent on them.

While I’m not a doctor, it seems insane to introduce subs to someone who was not already a severe opiate addict.

Head over to r/sublocade to read the endless horror stories of people who are trying to figure out how to get off of subs.

You’re probably right, i’ve heard stories about it from some recovering people I know. Idk I just told my rehab that the naltrexone wasn’t working and after the psychiatrist reviewed the list of shit i’ve done they said I could go on it. I even mentioned a few times my blow was laced w fent and still used it and they said I could go on it still.

I was thinking the same thing. Welcome to the world of opiates!

Swapping one for another isn't the best idea if getting sober is the goal.

i know. I’m saying I regret thinking I could smoke and it just led to a shitty mental state

We live and learn. Take the lesson and move forward!

So a slip is not the end of all of your hard earned recovery. I tried that experiment and it never worked out in the long run, I seem to be wired to get high so once I start I am going off the deep end. Can’t speak for everyone.

same. Few months ago i was able to smoke to help w cravings but now thats not working, once i have thc in my system makes me want everything or to be stoned 24/7 as its a ā€œsocially acceptableā€ drug. I guess it kinda shows that i’m still coming to terms with the fact that I need to be sober and that means absolutely NO drugs even if others see weed as something that might help them, everyone’s different and i’m not one of them who can do that.

All the drugs are making it very difficult for you. Im all for someone getting off hard stuff with subs, but subs are a drug. Weed is a drug. Alcohol is a drug. Period. Sober means no drugs. If you continue to use crutches its going to make it 1000% worse. I feel for you. Idk if you've come down off subs before but its much worse than H or fet or whatever

I have before. Tbh I see what you’re saying and you’re not wrong. Maybe I guess it’s not considered fully sober then if i’m on subs but I am trying

It absolutely counts that you're not doing your drug of choice! We claim progress, not perfection!

Identifying you have a problem and taking steps to stop is HUGE. I am proud of you. Its f-ing hard.

Make a goal of being 100% drug free. Create a road map of the best way to achieve that. Maybe it's tapering off subs, maybe its accepting you cant use Marijuana. Its different for everyone.

You will feel so much better once youre done with it all. It take time, and it sucks at first. Keep going!

You see this a lot with addicts, and it's unfortunate since pot hasn't been seen as a "real drug" for so long. But it clouds judgement and has the same results that booze does.

Ive been Cali sober for almost 4 years, after being a ā€œfunctioningā€ alcoholic for almost 30. I’ve never felt better.
