Yarn Color Frustration

A few years ago, I bought a collection of Lang Super Soxx off Etsy. This yarn came from that collection, but the label is long since lost so I can’t be sure about the brand. Heels, toes, and cuffs are all separate solid contrasting yarns.

The first pic shows top down the order the socks were knit, pulling from the center. The top two look like they have a blue wash over the colors.

The second pic shows the socks rearranged to match the coloways.

So this is me venting. Despite all the effort to get matching socks, I’ve now got two pair that clearly don’t.

Sock toe for angular toes?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Does anyone have a suggestion to get a good fitting toe when your toes are a combination of the Roman and Celtic style toes? I have struggled with sock knitting because I can’t seem get a shape that sits comfortably on my toes. Because my toes are longer I also struggle with getting a good toe length, too. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I did it! I lengthened the cuff on my son’s socks!

Why is this so noteworthy you ask? My adult son asked for socks and lives quite a few states away. So when he tried on the socks the BO was too tight and the cuff was too short. To add complexity, we are in the middle of moving from one duty station to the next. From ND to FL. I had the presence of mind to keep his yarn with me. I also was able to figure out the which ball went with which sock! I am so proud of it! It looks seamless. Car knitting for the win!

hiya!
Iā€˜m currently working on a sock pattern which is Ghibli (Totoro) themed.
I intended to make it only for myself but so far I love how it’s turning out and would love to share it! ( Also, never written a pattern before but I’m like- ā€œyolo why not?ā€)

Obviously, I can always share it for free, than I’d be safe ( but I’d only share the pixel pattern so that’d be less work for me but that’d also mean you’d have to be an intermediate sock knitter to knit the rest of the sock, so its less ā€œaccessibleā€) but I have seen people on ravelry actually selling ghibli themed (sock) patterns and was wondering how that works. As far as I know ravelry isn’t allowed to have any form of ghibli themed patterns for sale. I really don’t want to be sued xD!

I will obviously do more research myself but was wondering if some of y’all have any clue! Maybe there are some sock designers in here?
I’d appreciate the help!!

( What I’ve found on copyright vs Trademark(linkedin is my source lol);
While copyright protects the films, trademark allows Ghibli to control the use of its branding and character identity in commercial markets. For example, only officially licensed sellers can use Totoro's image on products. Without such protection, Ghibli's brand could be diluted by unregulated, lower-quality imitations)

Sooo- some reassurance (that me selling a totoro themed sock pattern is, probably, in fact, copyright infringement) would help ^^

Cuff options

Post image

I’m looking for some inspiration for cuff options worked in a single colour (or maybe 2) which are a bit more interesting than a standard rib. Would love to hear any ideas for adding texture without compromising stretch across the cuff!

Picture of my latest WIP featuring an eye of partridge heel.

Q: Has anyone knit cuff down TAAT but w/ tabi toe / split toes?

• Upvotes

Greetings all. I'm currently knitting a pair of TAAT socks, am getting close to the toes, and per the subject am curious whether anyone has done this?

If yes, what was your experience/method?

I'm considering knitting the "toe pockets" first while placing the "big toes" on waste yarn, or just placing the socks on separate sets of needles.

TIA!

Help needed with funky stitches on toe-up socks

I’m new-ish to sock knitting, meaning I’ve knit two full pairs plus many half done singles. I’m committed to finally getting least one more pair of vanilla socks done before trying some simple colorwork, top-down socks, etc.

Iā€˜m doing kfb’s for increases. Whatā€˜s going on with my stitches here? Why do my increases look huge and funky? Weirdly, they look better on the other side of the sock. FYI: I knit continental and, coming from crochet and making amigurumi, I know I tend to knit very tightly. Thank you, thank you for your assistance, knitters!

Is sock knitting for newbies?

I am a crocheter and can do knit and purl and nothing else. Is knitting socks good as a first project? I tend to use cotton yarn as my city is too hot for wool and acrylic yarn makes my hands itch. Please advice. I plan to work with circular needles as the tutorials I have picked up uses them. Any advice, suggestions will be greatly and hugely welcome. Thanks in advance.

Test pattern question?

So I am testing a sock pattern and it is good but not great. Some pretty glaring errors. That said, I have emailed and messaged the designer multiple times to no avail. My question is, am I still obligated to make my Sept 9th deadline? I had to rewrite the heal entirely with no input from the designer.

Accidentally did SSK through front loop when working heel flap

Hi all,

I was confidently knitting my heel flap when I realized I'd been doing the SSKs wrong. It seems I was doing them right for a few rows (as in knitting them tbl as expected) and then switched to knitting through the front loop for a few rows, and then back to normal. I caught the mistake a few rows after I'd corrected it. I was wondering if I could ladder down to fix it? I think I'd need to ladder down 10 rows. I just dont want to ladder down and them completely mess this up further. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I've also considered using yarn to cover up the holes left by the SSK through the front loop too. Thanks in advance!

Beautiful photos of my Bee-autiful socks

I got some beautiful photos of my bee socks from the recipient. I thought some of you might appreciate this. I prefer the sock wearing photos better than the blocking photos.

Pattern - https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bee-autiful-socks

Yarn - Typical sock yarn (75% merino and 25% nylon) For the wings I used a mohair silk blend along with the sock yarn to give it an extra fuzzy look. The pattern suggestion was to double up the yarn.

Making foot narrower?

I am knitting socks for a friend, her foot is narrower than her calf. I cast on 72 stitches for a plain vanilla sock on magic loop. I got all the way to the gusset and now I'm thinking I need to go down to 64 stitches for the foot part of the sock.

What I'm confused is - do I just keep decreasing just on the bottom part of the sock, (N2 for magic loop) or on both top and bottom of the foot? And should I change from every other row decrease to every row?

Do you stick with the same or switch it up?

Do you basically stick to the same recipe all the time or make something different every time? I don't mean different coloured heels or colourwork patterns, different patterns on leg or foot.

I mean do you always do cuff down, same heel, decrease for toe, kitchener off? Same basic recipe or do you do different heels, sometimes toe up, sometimes cuff down. How much do you mix it up?

I've made about 6 pairs of socks so far and have tried a few different ways trying to find what works for me and what fits well. Some work better than others. But I can see nailing that and then doing it the same every time. Having fun with colour changes, colourwork, lace etc.

I made my first cable project ever last week and of course it had to be socks. I self drafted the pattern with a cable chart I found online and used the yarn picklechops from hobby craft in a discontinued colour way. I’m so proud of how these socks turned out and I’m now going to try my hand at making cables with a 4ply rather than a dk!

I won a blue ribbon for my Moths Socks by Alena Malevitch!! I normally knit vanilla, toe up, two at a time socks, so these were definitely different for me and very challenging! Seriously, it felt like rocket science, lol!! Extreme levels of concentration at all times. It was well worth it for the end result! I absolutely love her designs!

Slouchy Thigh high cable sock patterns?

does anyone know a specific pattern for thigh high cable knit socks? I would need them to just barely reach the thigh, like not all the way up. I thought about just doing a cable sock pattern and making them longer, but I don’t have the expertise for that, as I would obviously need to increase the stitches moving up the leg. please let me know if you’ve got any favorites!
