Recently got laid off due to org restructure. Unsure what to do next. 5YOE, MERN Stack.

My company invited a bunch of people on a call this Monday and laid off more than 100 people. I've been with this company for 5 years as a backend dev.

They have given a severance package, but given the job market, I'm very anxious.

Tech stack: Node, Typescript, Nest.js, Golang, MongoDB.

5 years is a long run, and getting laid off after that kind of tenure hits different than a typical transition sorry you're dealing with this. Your stack (Node, TypeScript, Nest.js, Golang, MongoDB) is solid and in demand, so that's on your side even with the market being rough right now. Take a breath before jumping into applications if the severance gives you room to clearer head usually means better interviews anyway.

I wouldn't so much be concerned with your stack. Frameworks and technologies are just details.

Consider the domain you have expertise in, and look for jobs in the same or adjacent domain.

For example, if you were building enterprise SAAS in the security space, look for jobs in the same domain (security) or a related field.

You update your resume. Reach out to everyone you know. Create a spreadsheet of jobs. Apply for and keep track of them. You need the list of jobs because recruiters will ask you if you have already been submitted. Also, you want to track the outcome in case you apply with them in the future. Do what you need to do to get another job. Treat your job hunt like a full time job, work at it. Good luck.
