I'm feeling nostalgic and just decided randomly to make this post.

Almost 12 years ago I was scrolling through youtube one night when I came across SovietWombles channel.

My wife and I had been recently devastated by the news that our daughter, 2 at the time, was diagnosed with cancer. We were emotionally exhausted. Our entire world had crumbled overnight by a simple fever that wouldn't go away. She started her first chemo treatment while there, and we were sent home with a backpack full of drugs and papers explaining what our lives were going to be like for the next 2.5 years.

We were laying in bed together that night having been at the hospital for over a week, just doom scrolling and trying not to let the devastation take over and cry for another hour straight. We were walking husks, running off nothing but auto pilot.

Then I found his channel. I started watching a video, some random bullshittery one, just hoping to find something to take my mind off things.

Then I laughed. My wife looked at me, surprised. It was the first time anything but tears came out in the last week. She went back to her phone, assuming it was just a one off.

Then I laughed again. And again. I started laughing hysterically at one point, and she couldnt help but ask what was so funny. So I showed her, and then she laughed with me.

We spent the next several hours bingeing his videos, laughing our asses off, forgetting everything. We just laughed.

So i just wanted to say thank you. In one of the worst moments of our lives, Soviet and his friends gave us something we both desperately needed.

Its been twelve years, and things are much better now. Kiddo started high-school this year and shes never been better. Ill always remember that night. The night that his videos pulled us out of our deep despair and told us we can still laugh and have fun. That one day, it'll be better. I'll remember that till the day I die.

Highly doubt Sovietwomble will see this, but, I am (well was) a university student doing a degree in Games Design, I quite enjoy the genre of survival games and when it came time to do my dissertation piece, I decided to make my dissertation about environmental storytelling in survival games, analysing Subnautica, The Forest and talking about narrative structures and all that jazz. In the process of finding academic sources I asked my dissertation supervisor (a teacher that keeps track of my progress and helps me out if I get stuck or have any issues with making my dissertation) if I could use Sovietwomble's video "what is so strange about The Forest" and got the all clear.

So, thanks Womble for the great video, and if you do stumble across this, I hope you get a laugh that your video sits alongside academic studies in a source list.

P.S. I got a good grade from it too XD

I know he said it's his hobby and doesn't really feel the need to make videos about it, but his fishing videos are by far the most relaxing and enjoyable videos on the internet, at least for me. It just feels like hanging out with a friend enjoying the day. It scratches a weird itch i didn't know i had. I just want a few more is all.

I was watching a supercut of his dredge playthrough and so many people in the comments say ohh he is simply stupid etc.

But that's not true when it comes to deduction etc he is quite intelligent even when it comes to strategy the problem he has is more implementing things.

Let's use an example In dnd soviet would be the person smart enough to learn how to open a gate to the nine hells but not wise enough to never use it.

Or more soviet coded the anti tank mine incident yes tanks are heavier than cars so are trucks

Hi,

I was feeling a little down and ended up spending the whole weekend watching all of the Soviet videos he made. It got me wondering: is there any kind of megathread about all the past and present members and associates of ZF?

I mean, is there any forum post, long Reddit thread, or something similar that summarizes what happened to the all members, where they are now, and so on?

I know there were some bans and removals of members/associates for various reasons, a “splinter” ZF that didn’t agree with the direction the clan was going, some drama here and there, and of course just life happening, some people simply stopped playing as much and some play till today.

I’m just wondering if this “history” is written down somewhere so I can end my weekend with some sense of “closure.” And if not, maybe some lovely folks could help write this "history" in the comments? Maybe?

I found the unofficial youtube channel that has a lot of his past streams, but despite them being dated, it seems most of them are out of order and there's a lot missing from the beginning of the mod. Maybe womble joined in after the group had already taken a few places, but I don't follow his streams so I'm out of the loop on this one.

I'd like to watch them in order if they exist. If not, I'll just go back to the unofficial youtube archive and deal with that.
