This is a 180º panorama taking in the red eclipsed Moon, at left, and the Millky Way and galactic core, at right, over the Maskinonge wetlands in Waterton Lakes National Park, in southwest Alberta.

This was the partial lunar eclipse (it was almost total!) of August 27, 2026, taken in the minutes around and following mid-eclipse at about 10:15 pm MDT when the Moon was darkest.

A comment on another post pointed out that the actual movement of the plasma was hard to determine (specifically how it was "pulling in plasma"), so I referred back to one of my favourite videos that shows coronal rain forming on multiple field lines both parallel and perpendicular to us. This shows the phenomenon both as the other clip did, and a very clear, alternate perspective.

It's a lot like our own rain:

- Chromospheric evaporation

- Cooling (yes, the corona is much hotter than the surface of the sun) and condensation into drops

- "Rain", initially following magnetic field lines, then gathering and falling independently (under the coronal "rainbow") due to mass and gravity overpowering the magnetic field's pull.

Also ft. Earth to scale since some people were asking, showing the rain falling at around 100km/s on average.

Taken by NASA's SDO in 2012, video is roughly 24h condensed to a minute or so.

In a 360-degree panorama that the rover captured on June 19 and 20, the polygonal shapes spread in all directions.

One of the places that has impressed me the most, with its stunning views of endless dunes and lagoons. Nothing but that for miles and miles. To get this view, I used the drone in a spot where the arch naturally aligns. I wanted the perspective of the endless lagoons and the vastness of this place.

Not everything was so easy, though. When I arrived, my suitcase got lost, so I was missing important parts of my equipment: no cables, no tripod, no clothes. Most nights I could do nothing more than stare at the sky, just hoping that tomorrow would be better. One morning my suitcase finally appeared, and in the last few days I was able to take this shot and a few more. Even under difficult circumstances, I just wanted to go back home with the amazing sky from this place… and now it’s just a fun memory of Murphy’s law.
