Spiderman 1 rant / question

Let’s start this off by saying, I’m not a comic nerd like I wish I was. Maybe I have the wrong thought process about this, but something that always bothered me in Spiderman 1 is how Peter was more furious at the idea of goblin wanting to kill off MJ, instead of Goblin attacking aunt may. This may be a new idea and trend that’s come about where Peter takes aunt may seriously and will send someone to God for trying to even lay a finger on aunt may, but throughout the raimi series, I never liked how MJ was the final straw for Peter. Goblin blew through her house and tried to kill her, ock took her up to a really high building and held her almost hostage, but that wasn’t enough to trigger Peter into wanting to kill them. Why is this? Was it the way Raimi directed it or was it the fact that he was younger and more naive? Or am I just an idiot who doesn’t know Spiderman all that well? Tobey’s Spiderman was ready to off Marko, because he found out he was the reason for Ben’s death. I know Peter had the black suit during this time, but jeez. This dude was ready to slide for anyone else but aunt may. Am I stupid or just thinking about it the wrong way?

I think it was more that when aunt May was attacked he was in shock. He was focused on her surviving and then once he realized that MJ was probably the next target he called her to warn her. It wasn’t really the last straw, he didn’t know where Green Goblin was until he forced a confrontation. He knew at that point he needed to stop Goblin or nobody he cared about was safe.

But if you think about it, Goblin forced every step. He kidnapped MJ and then tried to make Spider-Man choose between her and the kids. When that failed he tried to make him drop them. When that failed he grabbed him and threw him in the abandoned building. Then he made it clear that even if he killed Spider-Man, that his friends still wouldn’t be safe so he lost it at that point.
