Why didn’t the trophy pop?

It's especially ironic when you remember Rick's design was forced to change to avoid issues with Friday the 13th, meanwhile Jason seems to have nicked the Terror Mask for his stopover in Texas.

Also interesting to mention here - Issue One only has a brief scuffle between the two when they meet, but very quickly find common ground and Jason's even welcomed in as an honourary family member by the Sawyers, which I found rather unique and super endearing!

I think it’s fair to assume that most people here are fans of Horror Movies, so it’d be the best place to ask; Are there any retro Horror movies which embody the character and aesthetic of the Splatterhouse games? The thought came to me while playing my favourite in the series (The second one) and thinking “Wow, they could’ve made a great movie out of this”. I’m a massive horror movie fan, seen far more than I could even attempt to count, and enjoy everything from “so bad it’s good” to the technical critically-acclaimed masterpieces. Thought this would be a fun one for everyone here :)

I never expected this but I saw some other post that showed it still costs $40 so I checked out the price checker and its going for almost $200 bucks and $70 loose(just the disc).

Wild. I think its mostly due to having the Original three games available in the modern era.

Hey there. It’s been a while. I still haven’t gotten my ass out of the chair and started working on my project, but that’s beside the point… I recently played Splatterworld: Rick to Kyoufu no Daiou (with a Russian localization, thanks to “Talking Cat” for that) and I’d like to share my thoughts with you. And here’s what I have to say… In my opinion, this is probably a pretty controversial game in the series.

So, let’s get started. I don’t really have any complaints about the graphics: nothing to praise, nothing to criticize. Everything is in the style of Wanpaku Graffiti, which makes sense; after all, Splatterworld is a sequel to Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti. I don’t have much to say about the plot either, there isn’t… not really that much, and it’s just average. The music is pretty good; I especially like the theme for the first town.

But what about the gameplay? Oh-ho-ho, THAT'S JUST FUCKING--- Ahem. And this is where I have some complaints about it.

First: a lack of information. When you find an item, say, in a chest, and then open your inventory to check its description and properties, you’ll find that there simply isn’t a description for the item. In other words, you have to figure out what a specific item does by trial and error, and this applies to most items in the game. This also applies not only to items but also to most character abilities, as well as certain plot points where you have to find the right NPC or item on your own, and you end up wandering through buildings in search of what you need.

Second: battles. They start… very often. Seriously, it takes about 16–20 steps before you’re in a fight. They simply won’t let you catch a break from them, even when your entire party is injured and you need to, say, make it to town to heal if you don’t have any healing items. And this frequency can sometimes be downright annoying. On the other hand, it might help with grinding, but it’s still not great.

^{Also, keep in mind: navigating the map is slow here, and you can’t do without the sprint button. What’s that? The game has a SPRINT feature? Yeah, I was blown away myself when I found out that such a feature existed... Though I didn’t discover it until halfway through the game. You can sprint here by pressing the “B” button.}

But I did like some aspects of the gameplay: for example, after an enemy is defeated, it may turn into a zombie version after a short while, which motivates you to finish the battle as quickly as possible and in as few moves as possible. Not all enemies are affected by this, by the way.

It works the other way around, too: your ally can die and be resurrected as a zombie, which can give you an advantage, especially when you want to get to the town faster to get healed, or when you have the Necronomicon.

Oh, and spirits, too. I laughed out loud when, in the second town, in one of the sprits shops, I found “Charlie Chaplin” (well, or “that mustachioed guy”), although his tendency to appear spontaneously was sometimes even a hindrance in some battles, I wanted to run away to avoid dying, but this mustachioed guy wouldn’t let me and canceled my attempt to flee.

Let’s wrap things up: overall, if you set aside the downsides and fix the issues I’ve listed, the game could be a decent JRPG, though in my personal opinion, Splatterhouse and JRPGs are incompatible. For me, this game was pure torture; it physically hurt to play it. If what I’ve described in this post hasn’t scared you off and you want to give it a try for yourself, go ahead. Just don’t forget to put on a hockey mask first.

implemented some of the core combat mechanics and I finished making a solid prototype for a level visuals finally and got a solid grasp on the workflow of that specific area of the work now.
