Rants & Raves Lime Helmets and corrals

Ok, I don’t care about the helmets so much, but racks you have to lock them to? That would be amazing for downtown and other heavily trafficked areas.

I’m so tired of seeing them all over the place blocking parking and sidewalks.

Help In search of lost footage of the NASCAR street race in Spokane back in 87/88

Over the past few weeks, I've reached out to a number of the Spokane area's broadcasting companies and the media folks at the Spokane library to try and dig up some old footage of the street races that took place in the city back in '87/'88. Unfortunately, they don't have much beyond a few small video segments.

I wasn't around back then, and with the reemergence of urban street circuits in professional motorsports in the US, many of us are interested in learning more about the history of these events.

If you have the race recorded, any snippets, or even just some photos or stories to share, I'd love to coordinate a way to digitize them and upload them for others to see.

Question Anyone know what the plan is for these buildings being torn down?

Post image

Main and Browne. The building on the right came down a week or 2 ago, and now the one on the left is coming down. Really hoping something decent is going on here and not another parking lot. Anyone have any info?

Question Favorite bookstore/cafe?

Looking to get away from supporting Barnes & Noble since it’s a big chain. I’m not finding much in north Spokane with basic searches so though I’d ask here but please drop your recommendations for Spokane, Spokane valley and even post falls/Cda if you’ve been to one there. Cafe isn’t mandatory. I know about places like Aunties and Atticus I just don’t like driving/parking or being downtown. Thanks for sharing your cozy spots!

ISO Friends IRL Football (& Fantasy) Friends for the Upcoming NFL Season

Hey football fans,

With the NFL season coming up quick, I wanted to see if anyone out in the Spokane area would be interested in joining a local fantasy football league, and potentially hanging out to watch games at public places and grab food or whatever.

No prior experience required; I am happy to help explain things and help anyone new get into football and how fantasy works. I also don't really care your age/ gender/ race/ orientation/ anything of the sort.

I moved to the Spokane area just a few months ago so it would be great to make some friends to be able to engage with in real life over a shared hobby. Football has always been a huge passion of mine, so if this interests you at all, please reach out!

For anyone more familiar with fantasy football, I would aim for a points-per-reception (PPR) league, with 10 or 12 teams, and a standard roster/ bench size. Candidly, I am not looking to make this a money-based thing, at least this first year. I've used Yahoo's platform in the past so would probably go with that as well.

Happy to respond to any questions, comments, concerns, etc. Hope to hear from some other folks in the Spokane area!

Hopefully this is allowed, but adding a link to join the league: https://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/1504628/invitation?key=603afe5874b0c5fd&soc_trk=lnk&ikey=8cb69d55eee86460

If you join, please do give a message on here or there haha.

Question Local shop for 100k Toyota service

Hello Spokane people, I need to get a 100k service done on my 4Runner. Any recommendations for a local shop to do this? I have heard that it’s best to avoid the dealer for this kind of thing. I prefer somewhere in Spokane or Spokane valley.

PS I did a search and the answers are several years old including some closed shops, so I’m hoping for some more recent recommendations!

Help Donkey Trailhead Walkers!🥺

So in May i built a drone. From scratch. I was super into it and bought a bunch of parts from china, and finally got it tuned this summer to fly somewhat decent and not fall out of the air. However about a month ago i took it to Donkey Trailhead, clipped the top of a tree on accident, and it fell into somewhere in this long grassy, hard to find area. Every day after work i come by here and look, sometimes with a metal detector; and i’ve had no luck. My last ditch effort is making a reddit post and showing images of where at + what my drone looks like, in case anybody already found it. (or finds it). If you know anybody who could have found my drone, i’d really love a plan to try and get it back. There’s a good chance by now it’s broken anyway, so i’ll be back to the drawing board fixing it 😓

First of all this is my favorite series in a long time. It's the third season of "interview with a vampire" titled "the vampire lestat". I liked the first two seasons better FYI. but still love it.

Secondly... I wonder about the writers whenever I find Spokane popping up like this. How did they know about Spokane? Have they been here? If so... why did they choose our little city out of the myriad of possibilities.

I feel like it sets the scene perfectly for a band that's not big (yet or anymore) but is big enough to be on tour (think Knitting Factory). But still would love to ask this writer why this place for this scene.

News The sky’s the limit for downtown buildings. Plus, a contract for police phone-hacking software will be an extra $45k, the county is facing a $30 million budget deficit and chronic nuisance properties better buckle up.

Question Old Spaghetti Factory Insiders - did the recipe for their Alfredo change in the last 6 months?

We recently had dinner there and though the portions of Alfredo sauce were noticeably more generous, the taste was just off and it appeared more separated. Wondering if they changed suppliers or the process or maybe were trying to get rid of an old batch. Thanks!

Rants & Raves Job Struggles of a Recent Graduate

As a recent graduate, I feel so discouraged trying to find relevant employment in Spokane! My chosen field of study (Econ, BA minor) does not mix well with the job opportunities of Spokane and I *stupidly* decided to sign a lease to stay in the area for at least another year.

I've been job hunting for months (I started three months before graduation), applying directly on company websites AND using Indeed. I have 1.5 yrs experience on top of my degree, and I was very lucky that my current paid internship allowed me to stay after I graduated despite only hiring students. Any job that I am remotely qualified for is extremely competitive and I feel like no matter how hard I sell myself as the right candidate, I always get rejected. I'll probably just have to pick up some low paying retail/customer service job until I can find anything remotely related to my preferred career, which means I get to lose out on experience time.

I guess this is more of a vent post and probably my own fault for staying in Spokane after graduation given my field of study, but it's just so frustrating that in a city of this size I can't get hired.

EDIT: I suppose I want to add that I'm looking to go back to school in <5 years. Whether that's to pursue Econ further or not is a decision I make down the line. I just really loved what I learned in undergrad and want to experience it in a real setting before I cement that decision with grad school.
