This happened last Saturday during the 6man Ladder match from Kaizen Pro Wrestling in Dartmouth NS, Canada.

Met Nic Nemeth recently, even though we are both around the same height, when I came up to him to shake his hand, I looked like a wimpy kid in comparison. Seriously he was so fkn big, on TV he looks like a guy who is lean and shredded, but IRL its almost cartoony how buffed up his upper body looked.

Would you say he is on steroids? I am 5'10.5", 180lb, have been working out for years, and he made me look like a prepubescent teen standing next to him.

It will never not pop me when a wrestler steals their opponent's finishing move and we get a kickout at 2.999 (or if you're Kenny Omega, at 1). With that being said, has it ever actually ended a match? I haven't been watching for very long, so please feel free to educate me, but I'm genuinely curious.

Austin Theory debuted in WWE for NXT in December of 2019 as just a generic cocky young dude. A few months later, he was brought up to Raw already to be a part of The Greater Good, but this was quickly canned and Theory was sent back down to NXT. Theory then spent about 18 months as the goofy himbo in Johnny Gargano's way, before being re-called up as the selfie-taking Chosen One Part Dos in the Fall of 2021.

This continued until the regime change in the Fall of 2022, but Theory remained a heel. He underwent a slight change to become a more serious but still cocky competitor, before starting A-Town Down Under in 2023. The two went on to team for two years, and despite teasing a break up, it never came formally. Austin was acting more babyface-y in the last few months of the run, but he never made the switch to the good side officially, because he'd always forgive Waller's shenanigans.

Theory then got hurt, came back and was still a heel, this time in The Vision. Now sporting a 2002 Justin Timberlake look, Theory is likely to remain a bad guy for the foreseeable future, with his Britney aka Maxxine by his side. The only person who comes close to Theory's villainy is ironically enough Grayson Waller himself (has been a heel for 5 years). Waller started out as a good guy in NXT, but quickly switched to a more natural role as a heel to feud with LA Knight.

As the title says: I just watched my first match after more than one year absence of watching wrestling. I was an avid watcher from 2015 to 2024 and was lucky to experience the many highs such as Omega-Okada, the rise of Will Osprey, the reunion of Kenny and Kota, Bullet Club, and so on.
Hence, when I saw that Omega vs Osprey was All In‘s main event, I decided to watch the match. I had no background about the build, who was heel or face or anything. I started with the bell ringing into this about 50 minutes ago.

In short: WTF was I just witnessing? Osprey giving Kenny the Styles Clash. The match kept on giving and giving. Thought to myself how crazy it is that a move is so protected that only one opponent ever kicked out of it. When Osprey kicked out of the OWA I lost my shit and loudly yelled at the TV. I had so much adrenaline and when the 1, 2, 3 came I was so happy for Osprey and felt all the feelings. The commentary was on point as well throughout the whole match.

This was incredible and reminded me why I watched wrestling for ten years. This is art. Idc what anyone says, this was 6 stars for me.

• Kick-off with The Usos arriving backstage but being instantly assaulted outside of their car by Royce Keys and OTM. Royce smashes their car and Jey's head with a steel pipe causing him to get bloodied up. OTM slam Jimmy onto the trunk as Jacob Fatu arrives with a pipe of his own as Royce and OTM make their escape. Medics check on the Usos as Sol Ruca and Raquel make their entrances. As the match starts Jacob Fatu stands on top of the announce table and calls out Royce Keys and his bitch crew before saying he is going to dog walk all of you motherfuckers. Jacob's mic is cut as security corners him and Jacob leaves through the crowd in a rage.

• Chad Gable comes down to the ring and says he's loving this energy and thanks the fans. When he won this championship he thought he was going to feel like he made it but he doesn't feel that way because he realized the real work starts now. Now he begins to define his legacy and how he'll be remembered by all of them. He started carving that legacy two weeks ago with his epic battle against Rey Mysterio. He says he wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the fans down in AAA and he wouldn't be Intercontinental Champion if it wasn't for the Mexican people. Chad says he didn't want to return to Mexico until he had a way to repay the people down there and he finally has a way. In two week on Raw live in Mexico City he wants to defend the Intercontinetal Championship. He calls out Dragon Lee who he says had a career defining performance last week and Dragon makes his way to the ring. Gable says Lee's match with Fenix was awe-inspiring and he continues to be one of his favorite talents. Lee says it's an honor to be in the ring with him and Gable says he is fortunate enough that he gets to decide who he will fight in Mexico City for the Intercontinental Championship. Ethan Page comes out and says it's obvious what's going on, week after week Chad is offering a title opportunity to another talentless luchadore. If he wants a real challenger just face All Ego Ethan Page. Chad says he has a list of guys he wants to face and Ethan is on the list, just not high but he'll get to him, he's right under Honkey Tonk Man. Ethan says enough jokes, Honkey is one of the longest reigning IC Champions of all time so he better learn or else he's going to be a paper champion. Dragon Lee interjects but Ethan tells him to shut up little man. Dragon snaps and says Ethan talks too much and he should put his money where his mouth is right here in Cleveland. Chad says that sounds like a pretty good match and they should get it done right here right now and says the winner gets to face him in Mexico City.

• Roman Reigns arrives and asks Jacob where the Usos are at. Fatu tells him the twins aren't looking too good after Royce and OTM got to them and warns Roman that Royce is on a whole other level right now and it reminds him of how he used to be when they ran together. Roman tells Fatu that Royce is his problem, everything else will be his problem and goes to head to the ring. Roman Reigns makes his way down to the ring where he says being the only true champion that matters is a burden. Everyone wants what he has, he should be out here celebrating the #1 contender's tournament and showing respect to Fenix and Penta because they earned it unlike everyone else who bitches and complains and thinks they deserve it. Which brings him to Solo and says Solo will give him what he is owed and he blew his opportunity to serve this family for LA Knight of all people? Roman says Knight may remind him of The Rock but he's not their family. Roman says how about they talk about Mr. but is cut off by LA Knight's music. Knight stands on top of the ramp and says he's got so much going on, he should be talking about Royce and his goons but he's got Roman out here recycling material from three years ago. He thought he was supposed to be The Tribal Chief, the only real champion yet he's the one not doing things the right way. Knight says he's been calling out Roman for months and he's put his family between them, he set up tournaments he couldn't enter. Two weeks ago he dropped him on his head and last week he was too much of a coward to show up probably re-thinking is life decisions. Knight says once you whip the horse you gotta take the ride and enters the ring but the tron shows Solo Sikoa taken out backstage with Jacob Fatu standing on top of him. Knight makes his way to the back where officials keep him and Fatu separated as he blames Jacob for what happened. Roman sneaks behind and lays out Knight with a Superman Punch. He tells Fatu that this is his problem and to go find Royce.

• JD and Dom go to beat down Je'von after his match wit Dominik but Joe Hendry makes the save and throws JD and Dom to the outside. An irate Adam Pearce comes out and says he's tired of this night and this Judgement Day crap and says this match is being restarted as a tag team match.

• Backstage Becky Lynch is interviewed and is asked why she helped Stephanie Vaquer last week but she denies that she was helping her. Stephanie Vaquer steps in because she wants to hear this too and stammers that if she did want some help it'd be good to have someone who could take on three people at a time and she'd rather face Stephanie for that title than Liv. Stephanie tells her that she can handle herself and that Becky doesn't deserve that title, the title deserves Stephanie.

• Paul Heyman is interviewed, he says he can't pick between Bron and Oba and says this is a match both men have to win and neither man can afford to lose. The winner gets the glory but what happens to the loser's psyche and their perception? They're going into the fall right before the Royal Rumble which is the worst time to lose your confidence. Paul says he respects Oba especially how he faced off with Brock and he loves Bron for his dedication. He can't give a prediction or a spoiler because everyone else's guess is as good as his and they'll all find out this Sunday.

• Backstage Liv and Rox says Raquel had that from the start and Sol is never gonna touch that title again. Dom and JD return from their match and they all celebrate. Roxanne tells Liv she's got her back if Becky tries to interfere but Liv says she's got Stephanie handled.

• Following the main event Roman Reigns comes down to the ring to confront Penta by holding up the title. Penta does the Cero Miedo hand taunt while Roman raises the one.

There is nothing in the world I want more than to be a professional wrestler. The art and emotional expression involved means so much to me, and i’ve never felt a more palpable sense of belonging than when i’m watching my local wrestling shows. However one cannot truly indulge in an art or claim to be a student of it without first studying the art.

So what i’m trying to do is curate a list. I’ll probably store it in an Obsidian document where I can add annotations and reflections.

I want this list to contain the things that this community believe are the embodiment of the art of pro wrestling. That can include in-ring work, character work, mic work, video packages, entrances, match chemistry, timing, technical work, safe bumps, dangerous bumps, and the list is practically endless. I want to make it clear though, i’m not just looking for things that are “THE BEST.” I could watch 50 5 star matches and it would be impressive, but wouldn’t demonstrate the art of wrestling, more like a culmination of the aspects put together, which isn’t my goal here. I’m looking for particular matches, segments, PPVs, promo battles, interviews, etc., that are worth studying to deepen my understanding and appreciation of the art.

I’d say i’m pretty damn knowledgable about wrestling already, i’ve been watching consistently for about 3 and a half years. I know a lot about what I admire in a wrestler, what kind of moves get me excited, what kind of storylines I find compelling, etc.. That is all to say that i’m not just a complete novice. I’m in the know, as it were. Can’t wait to see how this list turns out!!
