Original Art | Foil Pink thunder

So I had this one piece of glass that I'd completely fallen in love with, but wasn't quite sure what to do with it (Mississippi River Glass 1000 S, the in case anyone is interested). Then I came across a tattoo design a friend of mine did that instantly struck me - and here we are. I happened to have matching Wissmach colors.

For effects I did some overlays, solder dots and spikes. Copper patina and sharp spikes are an horrible pairing! In any case, I'm thrilled with the result.

Yeah I want to know how they did the inside of the lightning bolts. I struggle when I need to get out such a small piece/section. I can’t even begin to think how I would cut the very bottom purple middle piece.

Thank you! I have a ring saw and really small bits for my grinder, that does wonders! For the even smaller parts I also use my dremel.

Wow, that’s beautiful. Especially that featured color in the lid & drops & iris

Thank you! And yes, darker purples are just fantastic in the light. Love the Wissmach palette for those since they have so many colors and textures and aren't too pricey!

Just FYI for anyone wondering who "Mississippi River Glass" is. It's a mass produced lamp company that makes lamps overseas which started a sister company to import the China made glass sheets they use. It's not a new glass maker, it's very likely the same glass or glass factory as all the other "house brands" of glass like what you find at hobby lobby, Tiffany Today from Delphi and the like half dozen other random named brands that exist.

This is amazing! How did you do the spikes? Is it just copper foil cut to shape and soldered over?

Just solder! Took me ages to solder since I was mainly playing and figuring it out. The edges of the thunder bolts are also drawn with solder but for the spikes i turned the piece upside down, put a dot of solder in the spot, let it cool down a little bit, then put the iron on that dot and really slowly pulled the soldering iron up. That way you can see the solder grow higher. I reduced the temperature of the soldering iron a little for that and sometimes let the parts cool down to prevent melting.

I have to mention though that I use non lead solder, that is usually more rigid but I think it should work with lead-solder, too!
