Form Check

For the best feedback, please film your lift from a useful angle and include the full set.

Good form checks make it much easier for people to give specific, useful advice.

Too wide. Bring your elbows in tight against your sides. Then bring your hands in so the forearms appear vertical from the front.

And this for next time.

oh wow, I thought at first my grip was too narrow. I saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nouqKhy0zO4. He says here based on my technique I should be even wider.

Right. Disregard that guy and use mine instead.

You want your forearm vertical because pressing straight up against gravity is more efficient than pressing out sideways. This is a force transfer thing.

If you want a really detailed explanation of why we do the press the way we do it (as seen in that video I linked) there is a book called Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training 3rd edition. There is a whole chapter in there called The Press.

Where your forearms are vertical in the bottom position.

u/sbfx linked a good video.

Here is a playlist of all the major lifts. This is our reference for performing the lifts.

This. Plus, straighten your wrists

Your elbows should be in front of the barbell. It's going to feel weird at first.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nouqKhy0zO4 , is this correct? based on his advice my width should be wider.

What "feels good" is not how we decide what is efficient and effective.

These people... different people have different mechanics. I atand back and neutrally put my arms out in front of me and where my hands naturally fall is where i grip the bar. I have tried differnt grips and found this natural position works best. Try some different ones out, see whichcrange doesnt hurt your shoulders and go.

It genuinly does not matter, your grip should be in a position that is the most comfortable to you
