Hardware encoding enabled but not being used?

My gaming machine has an old AMD RX 570 gpu. I have hardware encoding enabled.

On the client I enable the performance metrics and it indicates it is using software encoding with libx264. Is my GPU too old to do hardware encoding with steam remote play? Will hardware encoding make the quality better? Currently the video quality sucks even though everything is hardwired.

If I do need to upgrade GPU, is there any advantage to Nvidia vs AMD when it comes to Steam remote play?

I'm using AMD in my mini pc and then I upgraded the Ram from 32 to 64 and the combo setup with 64GB and the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS w/780M Graphics is awesome no issues at all when on the web or using software plus steam work great I hope this helps you out

P/S if you can upgrade your ram then I would look into that before you buy a new laptop or computer once you upgrade your ram if you go that route make sure you go into bios and pick the highest core usage that way your system runs at it's best possible configuration and if there is anything else you want to change in bios do that before you exit and safe the setting one other thing I would change is battery from normal to performance mode. Then after that go into normal settings and make the necessary change in there if you need help doing that I would YouTube optimization of laptop or computer and go from there you won't be disappointed with the change and performance of you device hope this help you out

Omg lol sorry for all the posts I forgot to say, you can always add egpu to your current setup and it will make your system run 2 to 3 times better making the cpu faster the graphic card better its also a cheaper way to go then buying a new system. I went with the Bosgame GVP for my mini pc setup but with my folding laptop I went with the onexplayer 2 egpu it's a stronger egpu cost more but for real worth every cent

What system are you on? Windows, Linux, etc.?

Regardless, I would look at streaming_log.txt in your Steam logs directory; it will record a bunch of data while it tries to set up encoding.
