You probably have a few seconds, maybe 5 at most, to engage a stranger before they decide that whatever you’re saying isn’t worth their time or attention. It’s basically the same as the modern scrolling behavior: people decide in 3 seconds whether something is worth listening to. And I imagine that if you were Dua Lipa, that timer would be significantly longer.
The same thing happens in real life. If you randomly stopped a crowd to tell them a story, I’m pretty sure you’d get more “fuck off”s and people walking away than if you were Dua Lipa telling them the exact same story. People would stay HOURS literally just staring at you, heck tell me ur whole life story!
As ordinary mortals, we have to master that. We have to learn how to compress our ideas into their shortest, most compelling form, because the attention span people give us is incredibly short.
