Advice

Hello world,

I would like to ask everyone for advice on what you believe I should invest in. Background: I commute 67 miles from the inland empire to Long Beach for work. My current commute is in a Honda CRV and I have felt the hurt with the gas and maintenance costs; but more importantly with the time I’m spending on the road. I’m looking to ride in order to cut my two hour drive home down. What would y’all suggest? It would mostly be highway, 210-605/57-405

Spending money to save money can be tricky, buying used helps the equation.  Most 500-900cc bikes can work, need to start with the style of bike you’d prefer.   NC700X/NC750X, albeit a bit heavy, are known for excellent fuel consumption with an  upright seating position, and pretty cheap used.  CB500X or Versys 650 is a good choice too.

Great list with the Hondas. Keep in mind, the only expenses aren't just gas. Tires can be pricey when you factor in the cost per mile. Insurance can be a shocker as well.

Another Honda I'd throw on the previous list is a CTX700. I was commuting between Irvine and the Bay Area every week and doing close to 900 miles a week on it. I put a Corbin seat on it, and a taller windscreen (it had a fairing) and it might have been the comfiest bike I've ever owned. Even more than some pure touring bikes. I gave it to my kids after about 9 months. and they rode it to a total mileage of over 50k and we finally sold it.

Only things to replace were chains, sprockets, and brakes. It was the DCT version and never had a breakdown.

I ride a Yamaha XMax to LA county from the IE. I’m getting mid-60mpg with about 50 miles a day at full throttle on the 210

Mid sized sport tourer. No contest. High upright Postion is perfect for traffic and lane filtering. Can stand to stretch your legs and put highway pegs for a second Postion. Great weather and wind protection. Comfortable for long rides. Plenty of power and quick handling for eating up highway and passing. Boxes or bags all over for cargo (as a commuter you have to be comfortable and prepared, as well as have room all the items you need for the day and errands on the way home). I love the triumph tiger 900 for more off-road or an 800 for more sporty pavement, but I am a triumph guy. All of the Japanese company's make great bikes in this niche and many have better gas milage and reliability. But I love that British triple engine.

Whats your highway speed? Where im at everyone goes 85. If your sitting in cali traffic my bike suggestion will be a little different
