Flock camera by Lowe’s Silverthorne
What are summit county’s data retention policies and who has access to this data (flock’s partners)?

the decline of that place needs to be studied. pre covid, it was surprisingly reliable with a decent handful of knowledgeable staff. now just the thought of having to go there ruins my day.

It’s not the fact that they’re taking your picture. Your picture is taken everywhere you go anyways. But Flock saves the data and then makes it searchable for anyone who asks (big gov’t). There have been instances of jilted police officers stalking exes, etc, which is totally inappropriate and a violation of the fourth amendment about reasonable searches.

There are so many flock cameras around Summit county. Who agreed to all this? Is it our county commissioners/town councils? There are a bunch in Breck.

Really interesting that Aspen only has one. Presumably, the people who are away from their second (third, fourth, ... ) homes would advocate for this kind of surveillance. We can only assume they get rich off it and understand how it works.

As if the tracking of everything on our phones weren’t enough, now they are using AI and video keep permanent tabs on us.
These huge data centers going in (Parker) are specifically for handling the enormous amounts of video that they will be collecting.
If everyone knows this is a terrible idea, how are these things being installed? It’s under the guise of “safety” but at the expense of our freedom.

It's about the slow boil. It's about being monitored by nefarious actors. It's about the woman who drove out of Texas for an Abortion and was arrested when she got back. It's about the man who drove to Michigan to buy weed and was arrested when he got back. It's about the many love interests, exes, current partners that cops are tracking and looking at.
Even if your specific freedoms haven't been specifically infringed, others already have. Its part of being American to be against these. If you love cameras and being monitored consider moving to China.

If this is a question in good faith 1) there are already several well know examples of law enforcement employees accessing data to do shit like creep on their exes. 2) Every inch that’s given up of our privacy to programs like this is never reclaimed. Yes, everyone has a cellphone with a camera. However, we don’t need a nation wide network of cameras that can keep tabs on us.

Is this not the one aimed at Buffalo Mountain Dr? There are two at the back of Lowes that catch all traffic going into/out of Wildernest on Buffalo Mountain Dr.
There are also two others on Ryan Gulch Rd capturing both directions between the road and fence lining I70.
Both roads in/out of Wildernest are covered by Flock cameras.

As someone who lives in Wildernest, I can honestly say I've been tempted to do what these vandals did (though I never have).
This is universally viewed as government overreach, by everyone anywhere on the political spectrum. Fuck them cameras.

Read the article in the summit daily today. They call them ‘license plate cameras’ and then continued to gaslight how unsafe areas of our community are without them.

We need to start tracking our politicians every movement. They are public servants and we should know what they are doing at all times. Did they stop at the deli for a long lunch? Report it. We start tracking them like they track us and this shit will stop real fast.

Yes, but there are many of these (unpermitted) on public ROW. Public property installations are one thing, but our tax dollars feeding Palantair all the visual and RF data on public property is another entirely.

It’s not a guise…. It’s truly being done to help public safety (and it works). But then the data is misused as evidenced by some well known examples around the country. Fix the problem of data access by requiring a warrant…simple.

Bullshit. Traffic cams, dash cams, doorbell cams and license plate readers have been around a long time. Flock didn’t create a thing. Except for the mess of allowing nefarious actors access to the data it collects.
