As disappointing as the eliminator exit was, SRH punched far, far above their weight this season, and that deserves to be highlighted.

2026 was a HUGE improvement over 2025, and even better season than 2024. The team literally had more wins and more points than in 2024.

The only difference is, the competition was higher so they missed top 2, while they made the final in 2024 because no one except KKR challenged them.

In 2026, after a disastrous auction, pathetic bowling, poor form from Head and Abhishek, everyone wrote SRH off as the #10 or #9 team.

But they took everyone by surprise and had a fantastic season, as good as RCB and GT, and broke several records.

They will definitely come back stronger again, and until then, orange army forever 🧡

There have been a few rumors floating around regarding the availability of Pat Cummins and Travis Head for the 2027 IPL season. While nothing is official yet, it opens up a huge strategic dilemma for management ahead of the retention deadlines.

The biggest risk of releasing either of them ahead of 2027 is losing our retention/RTM rights for the 2028 Mega Auction. If we let them enter the open market, their prices could skyrocket out of our planned budget if we try to buy them back later.

In the worst case scenario, if both end up taking a break in 2027, I believe we should only consider releasing Travis Head, while retaining Pat Cummins at all costs.

Here is my breakdown:

1. The Case for Travis Head (Release if forced to choose)

• High Impact, but high availability of profile: Don't get me wrong—Travis is an absolute dynamite at the top and has won us games single-handedly. But, his primary role is an explosive overseas opener. If his price tag shoots past our target budget in an auction, the international market generally has a broader pool of high-impact, swashbuckling overseas openers to target compared to elite captaincy material.

2. The Case for Pat Cummins (Must Retain)

• The Revival Leader: Pat completely transformed our squad culture and led our revival after those brutal 2022 and 2023 seasons. His impact on SRH goes far beyond just his individual stats.
• Tactical Brain: He’s one of the sharpest, most tactical captains in modern cricket, on top of being a world-class paceman.
• Mega Auction Vision: Having Pat locked in is crucial for our long-term planning. We need his brains and vision in the room when setting up our strategy and team composition leading into the 2028 Mega Auction. We can't easily replace that kind of leadership.
