Supernote MUST fix the sync functionality
Owned Nomad for almost 3 years. Just bought Manta. Synced like I was supposed: first the Nomad, then the new Manta. Something went wrong and I just lost a week of notes.
I know someone is going to reply and tell me I must have done it in wrong order or not shut off WiFi on old device or some other "user error" explanation. That's B.S. The sync should be able to handle reconciliation. I really love the user experience of writing on my devices, but the devices inability handle such basic sync functionality is upsetting.
A well designed ecosystem is designed to keep users locked in. The risk of data loss associated with reinvesting in Supernote devices has the exact opposite result. If I can't easily switch devices then my why not consider alternative platforms and devices instead of dropping another $600 on a new Supernote device? Sitting here trying to figure out how to recreate a week of notes from memory, I darn sure regret not buying from another company.

Best thing for now is to have manta and nomad specific files

Good advice. Do you know if I can just rename the files on one of them and have it just start syncing parallel files? For instacne, "ABC Corp Manta" and "ABC Corp Nomad" notebooks?

I think if you make changes the same doc on two devices without syncing between, it creates a file with the format filenameCONFLICT123.note. After you have the conflict file on the device, you can rename it and resync and then it'll be saved

you ought to try submitting feedback with logs with the file names to see if ratta can recover them if you don't see missing content within the conflict file that is normally created

This is wild to me and I’ve never had this type of problem, with the Supernote cloud, for setting up a new device and I’ve done it twice as I gave my A5X to my son for a while but he didn’t use it and I took it back. But I did loose unimportant files with the recent resync on my Google Drive, just the export and inbox files for transfer. As I said, they were unimportant, thank goodness. But everything on the cloud I backed up prior because I was paranoid of something like this happening setting up a “new“ device. But there were no issues with those folders. But I’ve been without my nomad for like two weeks now and only have my A5X, so I’m gonna make sure I back everything up again before I sync with the nomad again when I get home.
That being said, I have had a lot of conflict files, especially when I first got my nomad. I don’t get a lot of them anymore like I used to.
Now the weirdest thing that was definitely a small issue when I reset up the A5X as a new device and re-synced it all, was that my EPUB book that I had set to a certain text size will not let me change the text size on the A5 X again, to the same size I had it before to match up with my nomad, even though I have deleted all annotations as none of them were important. They were basically my bookmark where I would mark where I was left off, so I could easily find the spot between devices because it wouldn’t sync up my bookmarks, but it would sync my annotations and digest. I still can’t get it to change the text size because it’s telling me I have annotations even though I removed them all. It was annoying, but it’s not a huge bother because I already finished the book. But I’m just unable to open it up to the spots where I did have digest saved on the A5X. So partially annoying. My most recent book on there I’m using with previously set up default from calibre and I have no issues there with the new book.
So long story short, even though I didn’t have the problem you had, I’ve definitely have had problems with conflict files off and on, and it would be nice if they would fix how it syncs. Like why do EPUBs only partially sync, so dumb. I would just recommend for anybody that is ever going to do this with a new device to back it up offsite as a precaution before doing an initial sync. Too little too late for you OP ☹️ and that sucks for you. So sorry to hear that.

Would you like to submit your logs by going to Settings > Feedback and keep the box next to System logs checked on both your Nomad and Manta? We will look into what happened and see if we can recover the notes for you.
We actually just released a new beta update where we added the option to allow users to resolve sync conflicts once detected.

I appreciate Supernote's responsiveness, sincerely. I mean, I keep giving you my money so I am obviously invested.
It is great that Supernote uses the community to develop new features and functionality, but I respectfully suggest that the company fundamentally misunderstands appropriate uses for beta and community input. I am an adult with a job and family and I use devices for work. I have neither time nor interest in working as a beta tester. What is lacking is table stakes for an e-ink device.
I don't mean to be rude, but this is something that should not have taken years to figure out. Somewhere along the line someone at Supernote should have realized this is a major pain point. Your business model depends on people staying with Supernote. If people can't easily add or upgrade devices then they may as well explore alternative devices.
I love your devices (like I said, I keep buying them). I want Supernote to be around for decades and decades. Please fix this.

I asked about best practices regarding syncing a few weeks ago (after adding a Manta to my Nomad). Mulan mentioned they were working on improving sync, so it’s coming.
In the meantime, I am using selective sync and trying to separate out folders/files based on whether I’d use them on the Manta or the Nomad to minimize syncing issues. So far, so good.
