Rough idle 1996 SJ413 petrol
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone,
I’m having a problem with my Suzuki SJ413 and I’m trying to figure out what is causing it.
When I start the engine cold, it runs very smoothly at around 2000 RPM. Once it warms up and the choke comes off, the idle becomes very unstable.
It constantly hunts up and down. It can drop from around 800 RPM all the way down to approximately 150 RPM, almost stalling, then recover again. After driving for a while and getting everything properly hot, the fluctuation becomes very noticeable.
If I give the throttle a quick blip and immediately let it go, the idle becomes stable for a short while, but after some time it starts hunting again.
I have already tried adjusting the carburetor to give it slightly more fuel. This made the problem somewhat better, but it didn't solve it. It basically just seemed to make the engine idle at slightly higher RPM while still hunting.

2k Carb with Webber Filter
This maybe pretty unique to me but thought I would share my creation.
I fitted a Corolla 2k Carb on my SJ70 Sierra to replace the Webber carb the previous owner fitted. I kept the original Webber filter, and made a housing for it.
My 3d print design Includes a 'spacer ring' that lifts the filter housing off the carby to prevent fouling on the throttle leaver. This has been glued on with a couple of dots of epoxy. (even though it is a very tight fit and will press together)
All parts printed in ASA. The car is in Australia and has been on many hot long summer drives, no issues have been encountered with it warping or breaking. (Fitted for 13 months at this point) That includes PCV venting into it.
Fixed to carb with a long M6 high tensile bolt with spring washer.
A reminder NOT to use carby cleaner with it mounted, it absolutely melts it.

Struggling to start
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My brand new samurai engine rebuild is struggling to start as shown in the video, no matter if i spary brake cleaner, mess with choke, or throttle, it just does this off of no throttle and no choke. Here's what I have done
Valve lash
Verified timing of distributor and spark plug order off of cylinder no.4
timing adjustment
Intake manifold gasket replacement
Brand new spark plugs ngk and wires ngk
Cleaned up all my grounds, including cutting my filter bulet connector off and grounding it directly.
New rotor and cap
I have no idea what it could be, I am getting about 180psi of compression per cylinder. Please help me I just need this car to start.

Flex testing
Just got done installing 3" life springs, and of course had to see what I'm working with. Also had to measure for shocks. For anyone who's done something similar, what shocks are you running? Long term plan is to convert the shock towers to take eyelets, but for now I've been struggling trying to find a stem top shock that could fit.

Stock Rust-Free 1987 Samurai Out of California
Haven't even received it yet (transpo I trust backed up from Monterey)! I had no idea how hot a stock rust-free example has become--lucky to get it. Seller had literally hundreds of calls about it. Been filling in the time learning about it, e.g., the 'magic cancel switch'. It wouldn't pass CA Smog, and seller had it for a long enough time that he just didn't want to hassle with smogging anymore.
I'm going to try and get the stock carb/emissions system working properly again just for the fun of it (the WSM is quite thorough and helpful about this), but have a 3K carb ready to go if it becomes necessary.
I thought about doing a YJ spring swap, but that's not reversible. I'd be really interested in a Rocky-Road coil spring conversion--if it came in a non-lift version (only 6" & 8" available). So bouncy-jouncy it is for now...
Truck should be here 2nd week of Sept.--dam that's a long time....!

Fuel pump problem
Hi everyone! I need some help with a problem I’m having with the fuel system on my Samurai.
I recently replaced the fuel pump with an aftermarket mechanical one. When the pump is off the vehicle and I press it by hand, it works normally and draws fuel.
However, once I install it on the vehicle, it seems like the plunger that is supposed to be pushed by the lever isn’t moving properly or isn’t getting the movement it needs. As a result, even though the pump works normally when operated by hand, once it is installed, it doesn’t draw any fuel at all.
Has anyone experienced something similar on a Samurai? What could be causing this? Is there anything specific I should check regarding the movement of the lever or the way the pump is installed?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, because I’m starting to know every single bolt on this car personally. 😅

New Member of the Family
Just picked up this beautiful Samurai. In its current state, it is:
Running and Driving
Has no heat
Has very rough seats
Has no radio
Has rusted out chrome wheels
Has different sized tires all the way around
Has spring under axel lift
Has a spray can paint job
Has a title (hard to find in my area)
And lastly:
Has won my spouses approval.
I look forward to restoring and working on this fantastic little 4x4 and the comments and advice from everyone in the sub.
Current plans:
•Sort the loose shifter with low ranges kit
• pick up a new set of gloss black wheels
• pick up a round of T/A KM3’s
• get the interior redone
• get it painted and body sorted out.

Headlight brackets
Hey everyone, I have a 1988 Suzuki sammi she’s had a lot of good work done however the headlights are kind of jankily in there zip ties and friction mostly and I was looking at finding a replacement for the actual bracket. Does anyone know if these will actually fit? They say they’re for jeeps, Sammis and motorcycles if anyone has used them how many modifications were needed for install. Thank you all in advance

my new Samurai
My partner just won this for me in an auction and I’m completely over the moon. It’s an 87 that’s in basically perfect condition. Everything is original and has been garage kept up until now.
I’m not looking to make too many modifications just so I can keep it in all its original glory, but I’ll be stalking the subreddit for ways to make tasteful upgrades, and maybe make some posts along the way.
I’m so excited to have this be my little daily for driving around town, she’s an absolute beauty

Wiper assembly “restoration”
My sammy used to have terrible play in both wiper arms, i’m talking like 1-2 inches of free play before motor resistance, meaning terrible performance in the rain & a lot of noise and clunking. All of this because the stock bushings were worn causing the metal arms inside the assembly to be very floppy.
3d printer to the rescue, made some replacements and it seems to be working fine for now, hopefully it will last. While i was at it i also degunked the washer nozzle and fittings + put in some new hose!
Ofc i had to take her for a spin without the windshield, amazing 😎.
Gotta recommend hwy83’s method on removing the screws btw, sharpen a chisel and start hammering, works like a charm!

Tire Size For Drag Look?
Hey guys ! I am totally in love with this samurai and want mine to have the same dropped drag look. Was wondering if anyone has an idea of what these tire sizes can be! The wheels look to be ORM.
