Swiss Army Knife Selector App

Ever been lost in the sea of oh so many different SAK models with ever so slight differences in their set of tools? Ever wanted to find that perfect SAK? Worry no more, because I coded a web app that lets you neatly filter Victorinox Swiss Army Knives by 3 categories:

1) Size,
2) Layers,
3) Tools

It currently supports (almost) all available 58, 84, 91 and 93mm SAKs, there are 58 different SAKs to filter from.

Manually compiling the dataset and coding the app took a few hours, so feedback is appreciated!

Bike Kit

I don't have the Wenger Cyclist or the Victorinox biketool, but I threw this together with a recruit, a 1/4 socket, bike focused bits, hot glue, and a magnet.

And of course, an altoids tin.

Patch kit not pictured.

Question Can WD-40 be used insteadbof dedicated oil to oil joints?

This is probably a pretty obvious answer, but I'd like to avoid, if there are any, downsides maintaining a SAK with WD-40

Special arrival -- Farmer X Damast LE 2024, for collection milestone!!!

Its Damasteel blade has the "Hakkapella" pattern. (I've heard of that!! It's vocal music without instrumentals or background music 😉🤣🤣. Errrr, no, that would be Acapella!)

I've reached a special collection milestone -- 100 SAKs!! 😲 Didn't think I'd ever do that & didn't strive to, but picked up many Classic SDs recently, which added up. Number 100 had to be a special knife though and this one is!

One pic compares the dark brown of this Damast knife with the lighter brown of the 2024 Pioneer X Terra Brown LE.

It joins two other Damast LEs I own (pics added), including the 2021 Swiss Champ with carbon scales and the 2023 Ranger 55 with Micarta scales. 😀

Please Identify What knife is this?

Can anybody tell me what company makes this knife? I’ve used ChatGPT and Google imaging and I can’t seem to find what brand this is. It looks like it has G 10 handles and it seems to be built pretty nice with a liner lock, but there is no name on it. Can anyone help?

The estimated production year is 1978. This company was best k own it's backpacks. Those used to be the standard backpacks of the Austrian army.

The pull on the corkscrew is extreme.

Semperit is an Austrian tyre brand.

Wenger SwissBuck Sidekick

Post image

I've been carrying this Sidekick a lot lately and have been enjoying the high quality of this knife, currently my only Wenger product. It's a very solid knife, a little bit handier at 85mm than a Victorinox 91mm if a bit chunkier for its overall length. Don't miss any scale tools but the chain annoyed me slightly so I removed it and added a Victorinox lanyard.

Altogether I'm sad I never took the chance to purchase any other Wenger products while they were still in production.

Perminent "Temporary" scale mounting hack

I was working on the LED module of my Midnite Manager. I heated up the scales before I removed them but I still stripped out the mounting holes. I did not want to glue the scales on. I decided to temporarily mount the scales using a \~2mm small ball of poster tack at each mounting point, until I could figure out a better way.

This worked amazingly well! I don't need to come up with another method. I am sure there are better ways but the poster tack allows me to securely mount the scale while still being able to easily remove them. Simple, secure and not destructive.

It worked great on a 58mm. I am not sure how well it would work but on a larger model.

In order of the closed picture

  1. 111mm Trekker/Trailmaster

  2. 93mm Pioneer X LE 2026

  3. 93mm Victorinox m1961 Soldier with 1984 tang stamp and a copper wire bail I just made. Actual Swiss Army issued knife with WK+ hallmark. $19 at Goodwill!

  4. 91mm Compact with after market yellow scales

  5. My 20-year old 91mm Spartan freshly back from Victorinox service. Brand new blades, can opener and scales. My first and only SAK for 10 years.

  6. 84mm Sportsmen

  7. 84mm Cadet Alox. This is actually my 5th Cadet. I keep getting them confiscated because I forget I have it on me. Buying this replacement started my 2026 buying frenzy.

  8. 85mm Wenger Trailblazer (or possibly Highlander). $8 at Goodwill!

  9. 65mm Nail Clip 580 Wood.

  10. 58mm Midnite Manager (red LED)

  11. 58mm Midnite Manager (new white LED) - modded from a Rambler and Signature Lite Silvertech scales.

  12. An advertising 58mm Classic SD that I got for free with the Nail Clip.

Missing from this photo is #13. A 93mm Wenger Standard Issue Alox (civilian m1961 Soldier) tang date 2004. I sent it to Victorinox to get serviced. They declined the service but I have not gotten it back yet.

All SAKs where bought this year except for Spartan (20 yo), and Sportsman (4 yo). I bought my first Cadet 10 years ago, but this is a replacement. All SAKa bought this year where used except for the Pioneer X and Compact. While I definitely caught the bug. Fortunately, there are not really any more models I want. I think I'm good for a while.

Surprisingly my favorites are probably the Midnite Managers. They permanently live on my 2 sets of keys.

Victorinox Will we ever see a modern pocket knife from Victorinox?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I’ve been a knife nerd since I was a kid, but always accepted that Victorinox wouldn’t ever release a modern folding knife. The absolute bare minimum is one handed opening, locking blade, pocket clip. (“Modern” features from the 90s lol”)

I was surprised and nearly proven wrong at the release of the Spirit/Swisstool mx clip, but it’s a multitool. I was surprised by the synergy line, but it’s not one hand opening.

I’m suddenly and for the first time patiently waiting for Victorinox to release something that ticks all the boxes. All the pieces are in place for it to happen now from different models they offer. Do you think it will? What tools would you put in it?

My perfect SAK:

-93mm platform

-Scales with tweezer/toothpick/pin storage. Maybe the first alox to include this?

-Blade from a Spirit MX Clip

-A liner lock, or a Swisstool style lock.

-Pocket clip

-Heavy duty flathead/bottle opener. Thick enough for prying tasks

-3D Phillips driver that opens in-line with the handles rather than in the middle of the tool.

-Scissors

-S30V/154CM/VG10 with a good heat treat. (This will never happen but a guy can dream, eh?)
