Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
"Ranking With Memes" Trend has been out there for a while. Starting from Hollywood Movies to Video Games and Everything. But I haven't seen one dedicated to SAO. There maybe one or two obscure ones, but None covers Every Visual Media regarding This Anime.
So, I Made One Myself. Hope You All Agree!
(The First One is Quite Literally True for My Case!)

Missing Commentary Subtitles
Hello!
Through a blunder when backing up my Sword Art Online blurays, I misplaced the English translation for the Japanese audio commentary tracks for a few episodes. Does anyone have them that can DM them to me?
I've got the audio, and subtitles for the audio for every other episode. I'm missing the English subtitle commentary for:
- S03 (Alicization) 6, 9, 12, 18, 19
- S04 (Alicization War of the Underworld) 5, 8, 12, 14, 17, 20
Anyone have .srt, .ass/ssa, .sup, or anything of any of those episodes' audio commentary tracks in any language? I could easily translate to English, but it's harder to transcribe audio from a foreign language. Thanks for your consideration 😄

Discussion SAO Lost Song, Celica Toolworks Modding Toolkit
Sword Art Online Last Song is now moddable. With permission from the moderators i'm making this modding post so others can join in modding the game. The game is extremely moddable, I reverse engineered the game and found the game already contains most of what was needed to allow loose file loading.
To briefly explain what the toolkit does:
It unpacks Lost Song's files to the game's directory and creates a DLL for Lost Song to use. For more info you can read on the repository. Essentially, it forces the game to prioritize unpacked/loose files instead of the packed files.
The modding workflow is as easy as you could ask for. You click Unpack, click Patch DLL (only needs to be done 1 time), mod whatever files you want (or if you're a gamer downloading mods you just download a zip and extract to the game directory), and play the game. To disable mods you either delete the files or click Revert DLL button.
From digging into the files I have identified more than 60 quests unused/cut, quite a bit of them are complete and just need enabled. Scripts are predominantly in plain lua.
As for what kind of mods can be made, many. It's quicker to say we have the same modding potential as Skyrim. You can already make entirely new quests/missions if you know lua. All the files unpack with their original filenames so that's a nice bonus (Hollow Fragment, Hollow Realization, etc SAO games don't retain all of the original filenames like Lost Song does)
Idk of any modding servers for SAO so if anyone needs to contact me use reddit, discord (the subreddit's sao discord server), or create an issue on github.

Alicization (anime) Kiroto x POH qustion?
Just a thought experiment: What event could force Kirito and PoH to work together after all of PoH's crimes? Let’s assume PoH is in his Season 3 mindset, completely driven by his desire to kill Kirito.
What scenario—excluding the threat of immediate death—could compel them to cooperate atleast for a little bit?

Discussion SAO HGW?
After reading another post on this sub where the topic of Fate/Stay Night was mentioned, I'm curious about what everyone thinks a Fate-style Holy Grail War would look like using only characters from SAO.
For the uninitiated, a HGW in Fate is effectively a no-holds barred battle royale between seven mages utilizing heroic spirits from throughout history. Each heroic spirit, or "Servant", is summoned into one of seven "classes" to define their skills and abilities, which are based on the culmination of their respective legends. The classes are: Saber, Lancer, Archer, Assassin, Caster, Rider, and Berserker.
For me, personally, I think my roster would look like this:
**Archer: Sinon/Asada Shino**
I think this is probably the most obvious choice for Archer. Her very first introduction in the anime is as a sniper in GGO, pulling off incredible feats of marksmanship. She's a top-ranked player in the world's most prominent FPS VRMMO, and her weapon is even named, giving her an obvious "Hekate" Noble Phantasm. You could even argue between her GGO or ALO avatars for which one would be summoned, since she uses an actual bow in ALO, though I'm leaning more towards her GGO avatar instead.
**Assassin: Argo/Hosaka Carina Tomo**
I think this one should be fairly obvious as well. Aesthetically, she fits the classic "rogue" stereotype better than anyone, and she literally makes her living in the game as an information broker, an occupation which would benefit greatly from the Presence Concealment ability of the Assassin class. I think Sinon could be an honorable mention for Assassin as well, but given she's already my Archer, I think Argo slots in nicely here.
**Berserker: Kirito/Kirigaya Kazuto**
This is probably gonna be a bit controversial, and I do think he's also an obvious choice for Saber, but hear me out. He has shown himself to be incredibly reckless under certain circumstances, particularly when it comes to protecting those he cares about, especially Asuna. He literally punched his fist through Kuradeel's chest, killing him, in order to save Asuna. He broke the foundational rules of the game in order to kill Heathcliff at the end of the Aincrad arc, he tried to basically 1-vs-1000 during his quest to climb the World Tree to get to Asuna, he went up against Nobuyuki Sugo unarmed while Sugo had a knife, in order to get to Asuna and defend her honor, and then did the same again at the beginning of Alicization when the third Death Gun conspirator attacked him and Asuna. I can't personally think of anyone in SAO better suited for the Berserker class than Kirito.
**Caster: Lisbeth/Shinozaki Rika**
This one's a little iffy, considering literally everyone is capable of using magic if you use their ALO avatars, but my reasoning here goes back to Aincrad once again. In Aincrad, Lisbeth ran her own blacksmith shop, and was renowned for being one of the best player smiths in the game. One of a Caster's "class skills" is Item Construction, which no one does better in SAO than Lisbeth. Plus, she created her own shop in Aincrad, and regularly does so as well in every SAO game I've played, which plays into Territory Creation, another Caster class skill. I could see Lisbeth having a Noble Phantasm similar in aesthetic (though definitely different in nature) to EMIYA's "Unlimited Blade Works" reality marble, where she summons every weapon she's ever created and uses them against her enemy.
**Lancer: Rosalia**
Spear users are lamentably rare in Sword Art Online, sadly. In fact, I can really only think of two spear users in the anime (Full disclosure, have not finished Alicization yet, so I don't know if there are any prominent spear users introduced in that arc): Rosalia and Sachi. And I think Sachi's been through enough, poor girl, so I'd rather let Rosalia suffer the fate of every other Lancer in typical Fate series. Iykyk.
**Rider: Silica/Ayano Keiko**
Mounts are not common in SAO, sadly, so it's a little tough to come up with a proper contestant for the Rider class. I briefly considered Kirito himself for this role (he did have that one scene of driving the buggy in GGO, plus he rides a motorcycle in the real world), but then I thought of little Silica, whose faithful companion Pina has been by her side since her first (prominent) appearance in the anime. A Noble Phantasm could allow Pina to grow to the size of a full-scale dragon, giving the pair a massive glow-up. Plus, other Riders have been put into the class in Fate via legends of them taming mythical beasts, so who better than the "beast tamer" herself to serve as SAO's Rider?
**Saber: Leafa/Kirigaya Suguha**
If Kirito is already my pick for Berserker, then I'm gonna go with Suguha for Saber. She displays skilled swordsmanship in ALO, and actually practices kendo in the real world as well, making her the only character besides Kazuto who uses a sword (even a wooden one) in both the virtual and real worlds. (Unless you count Ordinal Scale, of course.) SAO is full of contestants for this class. Pick any character pretty much, and they'd make an excellent Saber: Kirito, Heathcliff, Leafa, Klein, Asuna, Yuuki, Eugeo, Alice, etc. But it's Suguha's use of kendo in the real world that sets her apart from the others in my book, and my reasoning for her to play the role of Saber in this HGW.
What are you guys' thoughts on this roster? What alternatives would you make?

Aincrad 3rd time cosplaying as Kirito at Anime NYC!
I'm not great with poses, forgive me, but ive been trying to get better every year.
Will say, the previous times I've gone, there weren't any Sword Art Online cosplays other than me, but this year, I saw so many more SAO cosplays and even more people coming up to me asking for a photo, which was awesome.
Might be the last time I cosplay as Kirito, as near the end of the con, the cosplay started falling apart and ripping lol

Discussion About The So Called 'Incest Plot'
In the sub we often have people that misunderstood certain aspects of the story and complaining about it. A rather common one is the 'Incest' plot of the Fairy Dance Arc (or what they call it to be) . It's repetitive without them knowing the actual emotional context behind Suguha's feelings for Kazuto.
I'll try to keep the factors Chronological here.
At the age of 10, Kazuto discovered that his real parents died and he was adopted by the Kirigaya family by looking up his own records on the National Registry (Juki Net). For a boy who was about to step into his teenage, this is a heavy thing to discover by himself. This led to him isolating himself from his adoptive family and creating distance. He buried himself in computers and gaming, and unintentionally created distance between himself and Suguha. That distance mattered psychologically.
Here I want to mention the "Westermarck Effect". This is a psychological theory that refers to the idea of siblings or cousins growing up together or in close proximity since childhood, develop a natural sexual aversion towards each other. Because Kazuto distanced himself from Suguha, this effect likely never settled in between them, or at least not as strongly.
(Note that, this exact effect isn't canonically mentioned anywhere. But The theory is widely considered and well-supported. And the situations Kazuto and Suguha were in, set the stages for this to occur. That's what I think at least.)
After Kazuto gets trapped in SAO, Suguha looses his brother once again, this time to a machine she doesn't know if he can survive from. But she never stopped caring about Kazuto despite all that. So the romantic feelings she had for him might come from a place of sympathy as well. And admiration as she sees him survive something horrific eventually. During this time, her perception of Kazuto shifts from a distant, tech-obsessed brother to a tragic figure fighting for survival.
As Kazuto learns how important and valuable human connection is, he tries to make up his lost time with his family and Suguha by spending more time with them and becoming emotionally available after surviving Aincrad. The isolated brother Suguha once knew now showing warmth and reconnection, receiving attention from him again after years of distance and solitude.
For all these reasons, and also slightly because she was in her teenage years, she realizes she has romantic feelings ror Kazuto, which she herself despised and felt guilty about. She knew it was wrong and her love would never be answered. To get over these confusing feelings, she tries to invest them in her ALO partner "Kirito", which only later revealed to be Kazuto, her own brother.
Even after all that, Suguha chooses Kazuto’s happiness and well being over her own desires. She doesn’t become vindictive toward Asuna, nor she doesn’t try to manipulate Kazuto by 'winning' him over. Instead she accepts all of it and chooses to support his brother anyway. Be it in ALO or in the real world.
After all, it was Suguha who played a significant role in helping Kazuto from rescuing Asuna from the top of the World Tree.
So in reality, what we saw in Fairy Dance is much more nuanced than: 'Cousin falls for the protagonist and becomes a part of the Harem'
But because how the Anime portrayed their dynamic and focused more of the "political" and "rescue" parts of it, this became widely misunderstood and one of the core reasons of why SAO is hated. The Novels usually provide more psychological grounding and sadness behind her conflict and shows how deeply Suguha is affected by her own emotions.
In the end, Suguha Kirigaya is a deeply caring, matured and kind (even tragic in some cases) of a character. I think that she has one of the best character arcs in the story.

Discussion I loved SAO as a kid. Then Alicization came out during high school... i dropped it instantly
I remember watching Sword Art Online when I was younger, probably around the time I was still a kid. I watched everything; Aincrad, Alfheim, and GGO.
And I absolutely loved it. At the time, I didn't really have any standards when it came to anime. I didn't know enough about writing, character development, pacing, animation quality, etc. If something looked cool, had a hype fight, and kept me entertained, I was sold. SAO checked all those boxes for me.
I recall finishing up the anime and continuing on with my life. But then a few years later, when I was probably 15 or 16, Alicization got released. And I was actually pretty excited because I was still nostalgic about SAO and wanted to see where it would go from there. So I watched episode 1... And after about 5 minutes, I went "yeah.. i'm not watching this".
The animation and character designs had changed. And before anyone says anything: I know Alicization looks good. I'm not saying the animation was bad. If anything, it's objectively more polished and impressive than what we had before. But it just didn't feel like the SAO I remembered. The old art style, character designs, colors, and overall presentation were so deeply associated with my childhood experience of SAO that seeing Alicization immediately felt... unfamiliar.
It’s like I’m watching another anime with the same characters. That’s why I just decided to drop it. Never really got into Alicization for long enough to say anything about the storyline or characters. I didn’t drop it because of bad writing or because somebody said SAO is a bad show;
I dropped it because the visual change completely killed the connection I had with the series.
Looking back now, it's kind of funny. Younger me would watch literally anything as long as it was cool. Older me finally developed some standards, but apparently my first standard was:
"Wait, why doesn't SAO look like SAO anymore.." 😭
I'm an adult now, and I've actually been wondering lately whether I should give Alicization another chance after all these years. Maybe I'd have a completely different reaction to it now.
