Most of the recovery advice going around assumes you have an iPhone backup with DioCache.db in it. If you don't — Android, no backup, or a backup made after you'd already deleted the app — it looks like everything's gone. It usually isn't.

Netflix keeps your complete viewing history, permanently, and it's two clicks away:

netflix.com/viewingactivity → scroll to the bottom → "Download all"

You get a CSV with every title and the date you watched it. That's the same information TV Time was storing, just from the other direction. Every episode, with real dates, going back years.

Same trick works elsewhere, if you used them: - IMDb: your ratings and watchlist export from your list page - Trakt, Letterboxd, MyAnimeList: all have standard exports

Any of those CSVs can be imported into a tracker that accepts them and matched back to episodes with their original dates, so you land on the right episode rather than a list of show names. Mine does it in-browser at helpmebinge.com/app → Import, nothing uploaded anywhere, but the CSV is yours either way — hang on to it even if you use something else.

Where this falls short, so you don't waste an evening: - It only covers what you watched ON that service. Cable, borrowed logins and anything you watched elsewhere won't be in there. - Netflix's export doesn't say what you rated things, only what you watched. - If you shared a profile, you'll get someone else's viewing mixed in and you'll want to prune it.

I'm looking for a TV Time alternative with recommendations for TV and movies. But I'm not concerned about comments from others. Any ideas?

A little story, about 4 months ago i really wanted to start tracking my movie watching journey so i tried letterboxd for a third or fourth time. I didn't enjoy it 💀 Almost every part of that app felt like it was fighting me. Was complaining to my friends about it, and they said "so build your own." So i did. And i called it Reely.
Some time goes by then TV Time shuts down, and my friends start suggesting adding TV show tracking functionality into Reely. Here we are!

After TV Time shut down, i'm sure almost everybody have found their suited alternatives, but for people who still haven't decided yet, let me introduce you to Reely.

I built Help Me Binge, so disclosure up front.

A lot of people are stuck on the same wall: no export saved before the portal closed, and the recovery guides going around want you to install Python and run a script, or upload your whole app-data folder to ChatGPT or Manus and pay for the credits.

There's a shorter route if you have an iPhone backup made while TV Time was still installed.

TV Time's iOS app cached your library — shows and the episodes you'd ticked off — in a SQLite file called DioCache.db. Get it out of the backup with 3uTools (Windows, free) or iMazing (Mac and Windows, free trial). The path inside the backup is:

AppDomain-com.tozelabs.tvshowtime / Documents / DioCache.db

Then open helpmebinge.com/app → Import → find "Only have your phone backup?" → Import DioCache.db.

It's parsed in your browser with SQLite, on your own device. Nothing is uploaded anywhere — which also means you're not handing an AI service a folder that can contain account identifiers and tokens. And it restores seasons, episodes and watch dates rather than just a list of titles, so you land back on the right episode.

If your DioCache.db comes back empty

That happens, and I'd rather say so than have you spend an evening on it. Three fallbacks, all in-browser too:

• Netflix keeps everything at netflix.com/viewingactivity — download the CSV, drop it in, and episodes get matched and marked with their real dates.
• IMDb, Trakt, Letterboxd and MyAnimeList exports all import, ratings included.
• Or paste your show list from memory or your notes and it finds and adds them all at once, then you mark where you're up to.

It's free, works with no account, and exports back out whenever you want — full JSON backup with a Restore button, plus watch history and show list as CSV. No streak to unlock, no pro tier. After what just happened to all of us I wasn't going to build it any other way.

Dev here, being upfront about it. I was a TV Time user for years before I built this, and I have been lurking this sub since July mostly answering data recovery questions. Every other tracker has done one of these breakdowns, so here is mine, including the parts where other apps beat it.

Getting your history in

• One-tap import from a TV Time GDPR export. Also Trakt, Letterboxd, IMDb and Simkl.
• Your episode comments come with it. The export's episode_comment.csv has the actual bodies, and most importers ignore that file, so the comments land back on the episodes you wrote them about and read exactly like a comment written today. This was the part I most wanted back.
• Never saved an export? Screenshot import reads the titles straight off a photo of your streaming app's list, so you are not retyping ten years by hand.
• Plex, Jellyfin or Emby: import once, paste a webhook URL, and it marks episodes as you actually watch them. No manual tapping after that.
• Leaving is as easy as arriving. One-click JSON or CSV export, any time, not gated behind anything.

The part that is actually different

• Finish a series and it mints a collectible card into your Archive. Cover art on the front, your review on the back, and a rarity grade from Common to Legendary based on how rare and acclaimed the finish is. The Archive is a binder you fill over years, with sets to complete. It is the reason I built the thing: finishing a show should feel like more than a checkbox going grey.
• It is 100% television. No films, no mixed feed, no games. That is a deliberate limit, not a roadmap gap.
• The Aftershow is one discussion room per show, sealed to the episode you have actually reached, so you can talk the night something airs without spoiling anyone behind you. Your imported comments seed it.
• Then & Now reviews. Rate a show in S1, rate it again at the finale, and it keeps both so you can see the opinion move.

Everyday tracking

• One-tap marking with an undo, next-unwatched that is never a guess, a real airing calendar filtered to the services you actually pay for.
• Spoiler-Safe Mode blurs stills, titles and synopses ahead of where you are, across the whole app.
• Broadcast and cable episodes carry their real US viewership numbers next to the episode.
• Push or in-app alerts for new episodes, plus a 30-day and 7-day warning when something you track is leaving a service.

Social and games, all optional

• Viewing Rooms: a shared 3-2-1 countdown lands everyone on the same frame, then live emoji as it plays. Same couch or three time zones.
• Race a friend to the finale, see who is ahead or behind on shared shows.
• Cliffhanger, a daily guess-the-show puzzle with streaks.
• Wrapped that is always current instead of arriving in December.

Where other apps beat it, honestly

• If what you miss is ten years of comments on old episodes, Suite TV imported a scraped archive of around thirty million TV Time comments. Mine only brings back your own comments from your own export. For reading strangers' takes on a 2013 episode, theirs is the better answer and I would say so in any thread.
• Comment volume here is thin outside the bigger shows. Everyone's is. The audience got split across fifteen apps in a month, and no feature fixes that.
• Want films tracked too? Simkl and Trakt do that properly and I never will.
• There are AI features (a recap that stops exactly at your episode, picks that explain themselves). I know how this sub feels about apps that are mostly a wrapper. They sit off to the side and the tracker works fine if you never touch them.
• iPhone users get a home-screen web app, not an App Store download.

Price and platforms

Free, no ads anywhere, everything unlocked during early access. I am not going to promise "free forever" because nobody can, but there is no paywall today and the export exists precisely so that promise does not have to be worth anything.

Genuinely more interested in what is missing than in signups, so tear it apart. I answer everything.

The export at gdpr.tvtime.com is gone and the servers are dark, so most of the "just download your data" advice in here no longer applies. Here is what people have actually gotten to work since the shutdown, in rough order of how likely it is to help you.

1. It may still be on your phone, and uninstalling is the thing that destroys it

If TV Time is still installed and you have not cleared its data, your library is sitting in the app's own database on the device. Check first: Settings, Apps, TV Time, and look at the storage figure. The person who pulled this off most recently had about 14 MB of user data. If you already extracted a DioCache.db and it came out around 12 kB, or it opens with zero rows, that is the post-shutdown overwrite rather than your history.

Getting the file off the device is the fiddly part, and the good news is that you do not have to root your daily driver. The route that worked: use Android's normal cable transfer during setup on a spare phone, transferring only TV Time, so the app lands on the spare with its private data intact. Keep that phone in airplane mode afterwards. Root only the spare, then pull the app's data directory over ADB. What you are after is com.tozelabs.tvshowtime/databases/DioCache.db, and take the DioCache.db-wal sitting next to it too, since that holds the most recent months.

Bootloader unlocking wipes the spare phone, so only do this with a device that has nothing on it. Phone-to-phone transfer also does not work across every combination of models and Android versions.

From there people have been running the file through a browser tool another user built, ajoemag.github.io/tvtime_recover, which rebuilds it into a GDPR-style export zip that trackers can import. I have not audited it and it is a community side project rather than anything official, so make your own call, but it is what the successful recovery posts here used.

On iPhone the same file exists, and the route is an encrypted local backup or a free app backup through iMazing. Be aware there are noticeably fewer confirmed iPhone successes posted here than Android ones. If you go that way, check whether your computer holds more than one dated backup, since an older one may predate the shutdown even if your newest does not.

2. The Bingers route, and why it does nothing for some people

Bingers is from the original TV Time team and still holds server-side data, so signing up with the same email your TV Time account used restores some people's libraries on its own.

When it does nothing, the usual reason is that the address you are signing up with is not the address your account was actually under. If you originally signed up through Facebook or Apple rather than an email and password, the address on file is whatever that provider handed over back then, not the one you use day to day. Apple sign-in is the awkward case, since that often hands over a privaterelay.appleid.com address you have never typed anywhere.

Two ways to find the real one. Search your inbox for old TV Time episode alerts or returning-show emails and see which address they were delivered to, because that is the address of record. And if it was Facebook, check what email that account used at the time, since old addresses usually still sit under contact info even after you change the main one.

3. If both fail, rebuild instead of mourning

Your old TV Time emails name the shows you were following, and your streaming services keep their own viewing histories, which between them get you a show list far faster than memory does. Get to a list, then set seasons watched in bulk in whichever app you pick. You lose the episode-level dates, which genuinely stings, but it is an evening of work rather than starting from nothing.

What is actually gone

Comments and reactions never had an export path, so those are not coming back to you as your data. Someone did scrape a large archive before the servers went down and at least one tracker has loaded it back in, so you may be able to read old episode threads somewhere, but that is reading, not recovering.

And if the app is already uninstalled and no backup predates July 15, that is the end of the road. Worth saying plainly, because people keep getting told to keep trying when there is nothing left to try.

Full disclosure so nobody feels ambushed: I build one of the TV Time alternatives. This post is not about it, I have left the name and link out on purpose, and none of the above depends on which app you land on. Every route here produces a file that any tracker taking a CSV can read.

I know normally the answer would be obvious but since TV Time died cause of a lack in its ability to be monetized I personally only want paid options. I'd also look into FOSS options with an active development community that's been active for at least a year. Though just free, no ads and closed source? Wouldn't consider it unless they had a lot of donations.

How I see it is there's no incentive to stay open. It's a hobby and if they get busy or bored they'll drop it. At least if it's paying their bills the likelihood of that happening is lower.

We all know how hard it is to switch apps that's why I'm committing to one early that I think will be around for the long haul since I do not want to risk this happening again for a long while. Though I'm curious on what yall think. I know a lot of people expect free cause that's what TVTime was. Am I in the minority here?

I'm thinking about moving from Trakt to Bingers because I really like how quick the app is and I like the old TV Time feel.

I used TV Time before Trakt, but I left because it became really slow and hard to use, so I moved everything over to Trakt.

My main worry about moving away from Trakt is what happens to my data if I ever leave Bingers.

Can you export your Bingers data, like watched history, watchlist, ratings and personal lists, as a file such as CSV or JSON?

I'm asking because if I move from Trakt and build up years of data in Bingers, I'd want to know I could get it back out and move it to another app or back to Trakt if I needed to.

After what happened with TV Time, I'm a bit wary of putting all my data into another app without knowing I can get it back out.

Does Bingers have an export or backup option, or is one planned?

I had tried 3 apps Trakt, Serializd and Movie Paradise. I heard there are other great options but they're not really compatible with an Android. I have to say Movie Paradise is hands down the best one out there, it created updates to match TV Time and even brought back awards. We can even see the comments from the archives of TV Time! I love it a lot and it makes me less sad about the loss of TV Time. If you can PLEASE TRY IT.

Final Note

Suite TV started because I personally wanted somewhere to keep tracking everything I had spent years watching.

I also know that no app will perfectly recreate every part of TV Time, and everyone will ultimately choose the alternative that works best for them.

My goal with Suite TV is to keep listening, keep improving it, preserve as much of people’s viewing history as possible, and build the app alongside the people actually using it.

Seeing this asked again today, so putting the answer in one place. The export site (gdpr.tvtime.com) went offline on 15 July along with the app, so if you didn't request your ZIP before that date there is no way to get one now. No importer can read a file that was never created — that includes Bingers, which needs the same export.

You're not stuck, though. Three routes that don't need it:

1. Netflix viewing history. netflix.com/viewingactivity, pick your profile, scroll to the bottom, "Download all". You get a CSV of everything, including what you watched on the TV. For a lot of people that rebuilds most of a library on its own.

2. An iPhone backup. TV Time's iOS app cached your library in a SQLite file called DioCache.db. If you have a backup from before you deleted the app, your history is probably still sitting inside it. This is the one most people don't know about.

3. Pasting a list. Slower and less complete, but it works from memory, a note or a spreadsheet, and it takes a couple of minutes.

Full disclosure, same as my last comment here: I build one of these trackers, so weigh this accordingly, and I've left the name out on purpose. Happy to talk anyone through any of the three, including if you end up on a different app at the end of it. The DioCache.db route in particular is worth knowing wherever you land.

I've been building a tracker called Epidex since TV Time got shut down. Android only, no website, so this won't be for everyone in here, but figured I'd post given how many people in this sub are looking for somewhere to land.

The main thing: it imports directly from the official TV Time GDPR export. Shows get matched by TVDB id, not fuzzy title matching, so it won't misfire on similar names, and it marks the exact episodes the export says you watched. Movies come in by name since the export carries no ids for them.

What it is: no account, no login, nothing synced to a server. Your library is a database on your phone, and you can export it to JSON or CSV whenever you want a copy off device. TV, movies, and anime all in one place, one-tap +1 to log an episode, a release calendar with real air times instead of a vague "this week," tags and tier lists if you're into organizing that way.

What it isn't: there's no comments, no GIFs, no community layer at all. Not an oversight, there's no social anything in the app on purpose, so if that part of TV Time is what you're mourning, this won't replace it.

Free, one small banner ad, three dollar one-time purchase kills it if you want.
