This is the home for lost and found around Tacoma, refreshed every week. If you've lost something or come across something that isn't yours, drop a comment below.
A few things that help:
Lost or found a pet? we recommend posting in r/LostPetsTacoma too, but you’re welcome to post in this thread as well.
For everyone's safety, please be smart about meeting people from the internet.
Comb through the comments before posting in case your item is already here. Good luck, and thanks for looking out for each other.

Has anyone else noticed this? We have tire donut marks in our neighborhood and hear them all day and all night. Is the car club culture the same thing as street racing? Sorry I don't know much about it other than a bunch of them got arrested awhile back. I'm not from around here. Are they all out now and raising hell? Just trying to understand

Hi everyone. This post was inspired by a community member who posted a little over a year ago about a Finnegan's Wake reading group that he wanted to put together.
Since the beginning of the year, I've been preparing myself to read Karl Marx's Capital / Das Kapital - I started out with a few of some of the classic Enlightenment thinkers such as Descartes, Locke, and Hume, complemented by the bedrock texts on political economy - Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations, David Ricardo's On The Principles of Political Economy and Taxation, and most recently some of Marx's "early", philosophical works (1844 Manuscripts, The German Ideology, Grundrisse), with a light smattering of German Idealism.
Starting/partaking in a group reading of Das Kapital seems like an appropriate (and enjoyable) culmination of my recent efforts, and I wanted to gauge the community's interest in tackling a notoriously conceptually dense and deeply impactful work of philosophical and economic thought. I would probably pick some time during a weekday evening to reserve The Snug at Doyle's (same venue where the above-mentioned FW reading group takes place), where participants could come and collectively pick apart the text one digestible section at a time.
This would probably not begin for another few weeks, so if anyone is interested I would love to hear from you and I recommend picking up a Penguin edition of the book so that everyone is reading from the same translation.

Was out Chambers bay early this morning and saw a bunch of people showing up and heading out on to the bridge. Does anyone know what was going on?

Read in the Tacoma Weekly today that councilmember Hines proposed a $6K allocation to run a contest for a new flag for Tacoma. After listening to the August 25th council meeting, the format for selection would appear to be a open submission period, a flag commission to narrow the field to 10, a subsequent public vote to further narrow the field to 3 finalists, finally a winner would be selected by the council from the 3.
The Weekly article noted that a resolution adoption vote would take place on that August 25th meeting, and though the final minutes have not been posted at time of writing, the provisional minutes have and it says the vote was a unanimous aye for adoption. It also appears that the funds allocated would be used primarily as prize money ($2K going to the winning entrant, $1K each going to the two other finalists) and I'm not sure what the other third would be used for.
This is very exciting to me as a flag guy, a new Tacoman, and a booster for Tacoma. Tacoma does have a flag history with a few previous iterations, and I'm really crossing my fingers that this comes to fruition. Get thinkin about designs to propose folks!

Howdy Y'all,
Back in May I helped organize the 2nd Seattle Super Saunter for about 1500 folks and we are back with another group walking adventure.
I have organized some big walks up in Bellingham and on the Eastside as well, but I have always wanted to do one in Tacoma. And now that I will be living in Grit City for the next two months, what better time to organize the Grit City Gauntlet to explore the great city of Tacoma.
The Grit City Gauntlet will be a 22 mile walk with around 1200ft of elevation gain beginning at the Washington State History Museum at 9am on Saturday, September 19th. The goal of the event is to build community, encourage folks to walk, and to appreciate the wonderful city of Tacoma. All are welcome to this free event and folks are encouraged to join for as much or as little as they would like. The route will have us begin in Downtown Tacoma, go up through the North End to Point Defiance, back along Ruston Way and pass by the Stadium District and then finishing at 7 Seas Taproom around 6pm. You can check out the route here. Folks can also check join during the gauntlet at one of the stops listed here.
Many of you reading this are probably thinking “why would I ever subject myself to doing something like that?” and to you I hope you find some other way to spend that Saturday that brings you joy. But for those that like to walk, for those that are looking for a silly way to spend a Saturday, for those who want a free and accessible way to build community, for those that want to see their city from a new perspective, and for those who want to do it for the bit I offer to you the Grit City Gauntlet.
There may not be a better opportunity to explore some of the best Tacoma has to offer than on what we hope to be an idyllic start of Fall. You can sign up with this form. Join our Heylo group to stay up to date and feel free to check out our Instagram as well.
This is totally free and feel free to bring a friend! Join for 1 mile or all 22 and we hope to see you there!
Also happy to answer any questions.

Come hang out at Tacoma Code & Coffee!
We’re a monthly meetup and casual co-working session for anyone interested in coding, tech, or community. All experience levels are welcome.
Some people bring projects to work on. Others socialize the entire time. It’s totally up to you.
At 12:30, we do an intro circle to give everyone a chance to introduce themselves, ask for help/offer help, plug opportunities/events, and get to know each other. After the intro circle, everything is self-organized.
Come grab a pastry, coffee, and make some friends. We’d love to see you there.

Anyone have an update on reopening? Went by at 6:20am this morning. There was a truck delivering fuel. However the fence was still up around the whole thing.
