Strange gesture.

Upvotes

Today I was changing trains at Taipei station. One walking past some benches a middle aged woman stood up and pointed her middle finger at me while I was walking past as if she was flipping me off just with her palm towards me. She didn’t look homeless or crazy. Is this some special gesture or was she just flipping me off?

Monthly rentals in taipei?

Going to stay in Taipei for 3 months from sep to dec. Is airbnb my only choice? My budget is around $1.5-2k usd per month but I'm trying to find a good place with specific requirements and most airbnbs I like are closer to $3k. Are there any alternatives I can use except facebook groups?

Best luggage storage option

I will be flying to Taoyuan airport and visit Taipei for 3 days. This is part of a longer trip. I want to store my 2 checked-in luggage during my stay. I’ll be arriving on a Sunday early at 6am. What would be the best option to store them for a few days?

I know they have storage service in airport, 3rd party service that’s cheaper, or send the luggage to hotel etc.

Need recommendations, thank you!

10 hr layover in Taipei, I have questions.

Hello everyone, I'm from Chicago and got a 10 hr layover in Taoyuan Intl. Airport. In December arriving 5:30 Am and leaving 5:30 Pm.

Now, what's the weather like in December?

Best breakfast areas. (I'm not allergic to anything). But, I want to know where locals like to go.

I would love to see the old style/traditional side of Taipei.

As well like to know about anime shops, Retro Videogames, find street food mid day. Old style Bubble tea places.

Also any tips in advance to be a good guest during my visitation in Taipei? I first and foremost be respectful to the vendors and anyone I come across to not give a bad representation to my nation.

Thank you in advance for taking your time helping me out.

Trusted second-hand laptop shops in Taipei? + tips for buying used

Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a used laptop in Taipei (mainly for a student — web, documents, online classes, maybe light coding). Budget is on the lower side.

A couple of questions:

  1. Which second-hand shops do you actually trust? I've heard the Guanghua area is the place to go, but are there specific stores you'd recommend (or ones to avoid)?
  2. Any general tips for buying a used laptop? Stuff like what specs to check, how to spot a bad battery, what's a fair price, whether shop warranties are worth it, etc.

I'd rather buy in person so I can test it first, since I'm a bit wary of Facebook Marketplace. Any advice appreciated, thanks!

Ticket transfer (Ticketplus)

Hi! Does anyone know how Ticketpass works? I want to sell my ticket but I paid it via ATM/transfer, so I don't know if it's qualified. Can I just claim the physical ticket and give it to someone else?

Was so bored that I decided to go clubbing solo... Originally planned to go to Wave or AI but randomly met some people on the streets whom invited me to a rooftop club called BABYLON and they have no cover charge... even for guys. Therefore a super hidden gem. You're welcome. BTW I have to live in Taiwan for a year to gain citizenship, I'd like try making some friends from reddit. DM me.

looking to socialize but feeling lost where to go, I need to fight the jet lag lol help

Hey I just landed today at 5a from Los Angeles and I’m here for werk and to see my friend play a concert in Kaohsiung in a few days, but I’m in Taipei till the 4th.

Currently indoors since the sun broke out but when it goes down I need to stay awake as long as I can. Would love to make a friend or two while I’m here!

Really looking for a homie to stroll a night market or two, or show me a couple dope local spots more off the radar.

You can scope out my vibe on my instagram at john_mclucas , and my wife already said “if you try this people are gonna think you’re weird” and like. Idk maybe.

Oh I’m not a club of heavy drinker at all. love board games, talking life, good unique food.

Okay that is all. Bug me or not, either way all love!!

Or if anyone has any pointers on like “good scene to make friends here” that’ll do too. Cheers.

Also I’ll probably do elephant mountain when I inevitably wake up at 5a tomorrow hahah

Birthday Photoshoot in Taipei

Hello! I was wondering if anyone had experience/know of any photoshoot places?

I want to do a birthday shoot but I'm not sure where to start looking. For reference, I was thinking about those photoshoot studios that provide makeup + clothes that have a certain theme, kinda like those China Hanfu or Korean Hanbok photoshoot studios. Please let me know if ya'll have any reccomendations! 🫶🏼

Nightlife Recommendations in Taipei

Hi! My friend and I are planning to go clubbing in Taipei on Saturday, September 5th. We’re currently considering Wave Club, but we saw that it’s EDM night that day, and we’re not sure if that would really be our scene.
Do you have any other club recommendations? We’d preferably like somewhere with free entry for girls, unlimited drinks, and great pop music. We’re also hoping the drinks won’t be too expensive since one of our other friends joining us is a guy.

Thank you! We’d really appreciate any suggestions! 🥰
