Tank/Heal Duo Accusing First-Timer of "Inting"

I was in the 97 dungeon leveling BRD on my alt. Our tank and healer were a duo in the same FC, but they seemed fine. Early on, the tank said they "had to use all their defensives," which I thought was an odd comment because, oh no, a tank had to use their tank buttons? Things weren't dying particularly slowly, so I'm not sure what they thought the problem was. They didn't say anything else though, so it seemed fine.

Our BLM was new to the dungeon and died a few times, but I mean, big deal. People who aren't first-timers die there. The tank barely waited for the BLM to finish the final cutscene, and I think the BLM actually skipped it when they heard the *ping* of the fight starting, but I'm not 100% sure. The BLM was dead during the last boss's phase change, and the healer wasn't doing anything about it, so I used a phoenix down on them. I thought it was just a case of not having Swiftcast up, but since it was the phase change, there was no reason not to just hardcast it. They died again at around 50%, and again, healer does nothing. I can't help this time since PDs have a 6 minute CD, so I marked the BLM with a plus thinking maybe the healer didn't see them or something. Was just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, y'know? They immediately change it to "target to ignore," and I say something. This is what ensues.

Note: When I said, "Easy report," I meant the duo, not the innocent BLM.

At no point did it seem like the BLM was intentionally dying, not putting in effort, etc. They seemed like a person who was new to the duty and doing their best to do their BLM stuff in an unfamiliar fight. Even if they did die in the wall, Hydaelyn forbid someone accidentally touch the wall while trying to do mechanics they've never seen before.

The healer never did get the BLM back up, so they were down for the remaining, like, 40% of the fight. I genuinely do not understand acting like this. It's a story dungeon, not a world-first ultimate clear.

Edit: I did report and blacklist them both!

as a healer main, i call for the council to revoke their starglobe license.

also, having a first timer eat mechs in a dungeon is like winning the 10k mini cactpot for a healer! let me use my toys on more than just the tank!

u/WiseRabbit-XIV 3d ago

I second the motion to revoke starglobe/short queue privileges for failing to rez the BLM

For being a dick about the whole thing, I propose a friendly amendment to further revoke all healer glam privileges.

u/TheBigMerc 3d ago

Yeah, I'll never understand healers who don't like to heal. It's one thing if your tank is getting absolutely molly whopped somehow and someone else decides orange is their favorite color. But if the tank is overall fine, why not use your healing kit on everyone else?

Plus, I don't even really expect non first timers to do perfectly fine in dungeons. Let alone when the game directly informs me that someone hasn't done it yet.

MMO healers - you got 50/50 shot of: they actually like to heal, want people to take damage, so they can be active; or, they rather DPS, and they only have a healer for quick ques.

u/Missesbonez 3d ago

As a member of the council, i approve of revoking their starglobe license indefinitely. They do not deserve the power of the stars nor do they deserve the satisfying sound of astral draw.

I want to upvote this more. I love new people in duty I get to see how quick I am :3

Did a new dungeon last night. Told them beforehand, obviously, I had never done it. Healer was super patient with me when I ate a few mechanics to the face. Pulled me a few times to safety lol. Finally figured out the mechanics properly in the last 30% of the fight.

u/sunseeker_miqo 3d ago

As an AST main on the council, I vote in favour of this motion.

7

u/United_Quote6981 3d ago

Healer main - no better feelong than pulling out someone and saving them from a mechanic with "rescue" - squishy dps taking damage "Game on"

I love it when my friends get their shit rocked, because I can be cool and immediately bring them back to full health. It's like being a real hero! I don't get healers that don't like to heal... just play a different class, the healers do NOT give you that much dps compared to the rest bro.

3

u/Kitalahara 3d ago

See how much candy they can collect.

3

u/SakuraLunaris 3d ago

As someone who's main healer is AST, I would like to cast my vote for the council in approval of revoking their starglobe license. A healer is there to support their party (be it by healing or dealing damage) and as such their entire party, not just an individual.

The Lv. 97 dungeon tends to clip your average player, as is. But a first timer going in there as BLM? That's gonna be rough.

Sounds like your classic case of players who just wanted to get through losing patience and were frustrated things were taking longer and chalked it up to BLM trolling.

Swiftcast is available every 40s and AST isn't doing any real damage; let's be honest. The real troll was the AST

13

u/Masterduggie 3d ago

Yeah I played all the way to DT as BLM and a few dungeons in wasn't having fun anymore. You have to move almost constantly in some boss fights that you quickly run out of your handful of instacasts. DT is very not BLM friendly.

1

u/Weak_Addendum5135 3d ago

Skill issue. My first job ever was BLM and I stuck with it for entirety of MSQ (at that time it was EW). True, DT in particular requires a lot more movement, but with the changes they've made to it (which I hate, but that's beside the point) it feels pretty much like a WHM - you get a handful of instacast spells per minute. And then you have triplecast/swiftcast on top which are no longer necessary to boost single-target damage, so you can save it for movement.

Of course, that doesn't prevent death to mechanics, especially ones you see for the first time, but if you're comfortable with your kit it isn't much different from any other caster.

5

u/DraX696 3d ago

I don't even main any casters and I did completely fine on BLM through the entirety of DT. this whole expansion has really exposed people who don't like being challenged with their movement. (or challenged at all, reading casual players' opinions online when DT came out)

1

u/Weak_Addendum5135 12h ago

And they don't like being called out by the looks of it. /shrug

-3

u/DraX696 3d ago

casters are supposed to be difficult when you're required to move more. if you don't enjoy that you should try a phys ranged or summoner.

3

u/Ima_Play_Games 3d ago

Also even if you don't have swiftcast ready a hard cast Rez should be a net DPS increase I am fairly positive.

4

u/CaelGrey 3d ago

As an AST, yeah pretty sure a dps who is atleast pushing their buttons, even suboptimally, will outdo whatever dmg youre doing unless the entire party has like level 3 brink. Atleast if aggro meters are anything to go by xD (speaking from experience where I was the AST) My malefic and combust are NOT going to outdo anyone. Maybe if it's burst and I card myself both times with div, star, macro and div followup while everyone else has max brink? Not about try and find out though lol

2

u/Ima_Play_Games 2d ago

I'm pretty sure it goes for every healer as well, but maybe Sage is an exception idk for sure.

4

u/CaelGrey 2d ago

Yeah youre probably right. In a vacuum that should absolutely be true. I uninstalled ACT a while ago cuz it was depressing to see me as a BRD or WHM out dpsing SAMs and and NINs, so I can only really go by the aggro list these days which of course isnt indicative. I know my cases were "casual" content and I dont expect perfection, especially since Im sure as shit not either, but seeing the proof behind the feeling was just.... ignorance really is bliss in that case

1

u/Ima_Play_Games 2d ago

That just means you could do even more damage if you were those classes!

2

u/Tiernoch 21h ago

I think the biggest crashout I've seen was the stormblood Gilgamesh fight. It was during Endwalker so you suddenly had that popping up in roulettes and both tanks died from the chain mechanic.

One of the dps just blew up that everyone was wasting his time and what kind of idiots don't watch a video in advance of a fight.

112

u/No_Plate3406 3d ago

Bruh, thats a free stay in player gaol for griefing and intentionally not fulfilling your role as healer.

I don't care how many times you gonna die in content. I'll get you up as long as I have MP left. Sometimes people die to mechs because I was too slow to use Rescue on them....

The audacity to expect a first timer to dodge perfect just shows how fragile their egos were. They're probably very fun at parties and already know everyone.

You could've tried to kick the healer.

47

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 3d ago

It didn't happen until mid-final boss so I couldn't try to kick, just had to finish and report :(

25

u/Arcana10Fortune 3d ago

Same. As long as they're actively trying, I'll raise them as many times as necessary. I still remember week 1 of DT where people were dying to a lot of things.

12

u/angeyberry 3d ago

Whenever someone dies, I don't think it's their fault. I immediately blame myself honestly.

Though, twice did I notice that I'd revived someone 5+ times in a fight. Maybe... that wasn't my fault. But most of the time, if someone dies, it's usually because I failed to preemptively gauge an attack. Many, many times I've been able to complete negate damage from mobs or bosses by a well timed set of spells (or even just one).

At the very least, the easiest thing you can do as a healer is revive someone. Even if you gotta wait on Swiftcast. It's a badabing-badaboom-someone's off the floor.

4

u/CaelGrey 3d ago

Only time I disagree is with people who are obviously not even trying. Like the BLM I got in Barbie once who stayed planted wherever they were and made no effort to move. Raised them, and then when the wall came up they literally stayed in the wall rather than move one slidecast and died again. Left their ass on the floor and didnt bother healing them when the other healer decided to take care of them. Long as you make some kind of effort I will do my best to keep you alive but if you cba then neither can I

u/angeyberry 2d ago

The one thing I can remember was when I was doing Ultima, it was me, my friend (tank), and what appeared to be two sprouts going through it for the first time. I did my best and I know they were new, but... there were some things that I was just like come on now.

Especially after I realized I had raised one of the DPS ~12 times. I kept having to Rescue them out of danger - only once did they die to the big laser Ultima has, which is completely understandable (my screen is too small, so when enemies do stuff like that, I can't actually see them.. so I get it). What I couldn't understand was them standing in the danger orange and not even ATTEMPTING to move. I ended up telling them in chat a couple of times (in good faith) "hey, follow me! i've done this before, i'll help you dodge!" and even had my friend put the danger dorito on my head (because i couldn't remember how and we were in the middle of the fight).

Still, they kept dying. It was quite a fight.

I ended up asking if they did the Hall Of Novice and recommended it, to which they responded they had and knew what they were doing (both of them). In response, I said, "Maybe a refresher is in order then?" and my friend started howling (as we were in vc together). I didn't intentionally mean for it to sound so backhanded but man... did not think I'd have to struggle to heal in ULTIMA.

Both of them comm'd me still, which is bewildering. I can only assume they did it before I told them to redo the Hall. Just.. how do you get that far, and do all of the Hall, without getting that you DO NOT stand in the orange??

2

u/CaelGrey 2d ago

Lmfaoooo, yeah shit like that is part of why I stopped doing MSQ roul. Im also assuming youre talking about porta decumana's ultima (not that that's any better to not know better by then) and not the ultimate cuz if that's the case xD atp HotN cant even save that

2

u/angeyberry 2d ago

Oh yeah no not the Ultimate LOL, I just forgot if Ultima was under it's own thing or in one of the dungeons. This wasn't actually MSQ roul either, it was one of the other ones (I just can't remember, it's been a hot minute and I've got a migraine currently and I'm trying to do nursing homework. I'm fried.)

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 3d ago

What does "inting" even mean? I'm presuming they're accusing the black mage of running into the wall or mechs and deliberately dying, but I'm not sure what the abbreviating or acronym "inting" came from.

In other news, both of those are scum and I hope they get a visit in gaol followed by a court mandated break from the game.

60

u/Tyrious 3d ago

As far as I'm aware "inting" comes from League of Legends where it's the shortened slang of "intentionally feeding" when a player runs at the enemy to die on purpose, giving (feeding) the enemy gold and XP so they can get overwhelmingly stronger and easily beat the 4 other players on your team who're still trying.

92

u/ARKitect10 3d ago

the fact it's a LoL term gives me all the info I need on these two

23

u/Jaridavin 3d ago

It’s not a term limited to league, it’s used in many pvp situations. But it’s lost all meaning effectively anyways because it’s shifted from “they’re dying on purpose” to “they’re struggling”. One is intentional while the other can just be simple accident or skill issue.

… come to think of it I’m not helping defend this shitty term lol.

4

u/HoneyParking6176 3d ago

yeah in league just not being perfect at the game would get one accused of "intentionally dieing", guess what most the time when someone dies in a game it is not intentional, yet so many people just don't seem to understand, the person that is dead on the ground didn't make a intentional choice to be dead on the ground.

7

u/Dirty-Haiku 3d ago

Took the words right out of my mouth.

5

u/Rhinocacrocapig 3d ago

Yup, says it all

6

u/MegaloJoe 3d ago

Is.. this even a thing in ff14?

18

u/Tyrious 3d ago

Hmm, I wouldn't say that as much.

I think the closest thing I've ever seen to it has been someone dying early in a savage fight and then not accepting a ress / calling for a wipe in party chat because they didn't want a bad parse.

That's all I can think of from personal experience.

28

u/Eidalac 3d ago

Looks like it's "intentional feeding", from mobo games (league) where a player dies to feed the other team exp and hurt the team they are on. So I'd guess the duo are some toxic lol players.

12

u/Dirty-Haiku 3d ago

I’ve yet to meet league or moba players in general who aren’t toxic.

3

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 3d ago

Ahh, feeding I get cause it gets mentioned in frontlines. Thanks. Also your explanation makes sense. Doesn't surprise me to see moba language from people THAT toxic.

27

u/lazulimpa 3d ago

Report them and block them. Post's like this and even when I'm witness this shit first hand Triggers me hard, because ruining the experience for first timers, the life blood of this game, because one's self is some elitist dog shit, needs to be revoked from entering the game at all. Just because "content is x-years old, oh xxxx dies, skip and watch CS in the inn" doesn't mean that These people have the rights to ruin other people's experiences.

29

u/shadowriku459 3d ago

Good on you reporting both of them OP.

Feel bad for that BLM. They really expected the first timer to know the dungeon flawlessly? What a terrible duo.

20

u/Maximum_Leading1670 3d ago

If they use the term "inting" you can be sure that they are league of legends players, and thus not people, and thus anything they say can be safely discarded.

16

u/angeyberry 3d ago

That healer shouldn't call themselves a healer if they refuse to heal people. I feel personally offended - I love helping new people through fights! Especially fights that are particularly difficult! It's such a RUSH to perfectly save everyone so it blows me mind when people purposefully ignore others over some bullshit.

Also, again, heaven forbid you run into an instant-death wall, when 90% of the walls are not going to kill you (My first time fighting the lv89 fight, I immediately died within a second because I wanted to look over the edge. Wall killed me. It was very, VERY funny to my friends who I was streaming the fight to, though).

12

u/Forward_Baseball9030 3d ago

A Tank with small pp energy, and a healer that refuses to do their job. What a toxic power couple.

7

u/TheDoddler 3d ago

The final boss is notorious for catching new players out, you don't even notice you need to be doing anything different the second time until you get caught and it's incredibly common for someone to not identify what the tell is before you get clipped multiple times. Deliberately leaving a first timer dead is a dick move in the best of times but it's especially unfair to blame them on this.

7

u/Just_Strawberry_505 3d ago

playing ast and not wanting to rez - the thing you as an ast do best because even if swiftcast is on cd lightspeed cuts the hardcast time - should get you thrown into a gaol

and why is it always a couple?

18

u/Tsingooni 3d ago

I'll say it again.

Just because it's an e-couple/premade, doesn't mean you can't throw up a vote dismiss. Especially if you've got someone in your corner.

That shit can and will pass, and you will get to experience one of the most glorious meltdowns you may ever see in your life.

At worst, only one of them will be out of the dungeon and the other one will baby rage that you're an asshole (to which someone else will be more than happy to kick them, while they rage and give you even more report info). At best, both pieces of trash are gone.

16

u/NalamRen 3d ago

It happened mid final boss fight. No chance to kick them, except if they wiped or before boss loot at best.

7

u/Just_Strawberry_505 3d ago edited 3d ago

i understand the sentiment here, but:

1) this doesn't apply to this situation

2) people really, really don't like to vote kick, even if someone is sandbagging an entire full party. i've done all my roulettes daily to level all of three alts' jobs across several years and i could probably count on one hand the number of times a vote kick went through for a truly disruptive player

3) a lot of them queue together specifically to overrule votes because they expect it to happen and they know how to circumvent it (opening chests and not rolling, immediately voting no on successful vote kick requests because they know what the ui element looks like so they're in position to hit "no" asap)

vote kicking isn't easy by design and when you have a premade it's essentially useless unless you have a non-premade partymember who is also paying attention and also thinks it's worth it to wait for a replacement

editing to add: i also recently had a pretty big issue with a dps-healer couple stonewalling in worqor lar dor and the healer who asked for them to be kicked after they let several rezzes expire was kicked herself instead of either of the problem children

3

u/FriedPumpkin1 3d ago

I wish once when I read these id see the people attempting to defend themselves in the comments so we could clown them. You know that some of these people must surely be part of this reddit and see people putting them on blast.

5

u/Desperate-Act-1292 3d ago

What uuuuuh... what does inting mean?

5

u/CauldronAsh11 3d ago

That dungeon is so not BLM friendly. I had this one with 2 new DPSes (SMN and NIN) and it was rough since the NIN kept on going near me so it baits all the lines and AoEs around us but hey I get to use my skills.

3

u/Mooglefood 3d ago

This is my first time hearing the term "INTing" I guess it means dying and letting hte rest of the party finish the content/duty while you afk? what does the INT stand for?

2

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 3d ago

Intentionally dying

2

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 3d ago

Or intentionally feeding, mainly a LoL term it seems

3

u/dacchus 1d ago

Honestly, they should lock the party from moving when there’s a first time cutscene in dungeons and alliances just like with trials. There’s absolutely no reason to facilitate this and worse behavior.
It’s unfortunate that they showed themselves during a boss where you can’t really leave or do much about it, but nowadays I have went through many trolls and bad players to just take the 30min penalty for myself and just say “oh I get it, it’s one of THOSE people”.

It happened recently with the usual “you pull you tank” douchebag, I thought those types were in extinction especially in max level dungeons, but I guess not.

7

u/IhasCandies 3d ago

What does “int” mean?

Edit: nevermind I read it below.. fuck those people.. last time I checked, dying doesn’t “feed” the bosses.

7

u/A_Buff_Squirrel 3d ago

"Intentional feeding" Basically to intentionally get yourself killed just to make things harder on your teammates.

2

u/cutelittlebox 3d ago

not excusing the e-dicks, this is more of a tangent. if a tank has to use all their mits it actually can be a problem. more specifically, it's a problem if you run through all your mits on the first pack. if the group can't kill a pack of mobs before you run through all your mits, you can't do the next full sized pull without huge risk and you'll need to slow down and the dungeon will be more difficult overall because of the greatly increased fight times and healing load. that's where it gets to be annoying.

7

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 3d ago

Things were dying at a normal place, plus they were WAR, so I really don't know what they were on about. I think they were just mad that mobs there actually hurt and they had to push buttons.

1

u/cutelittlebox 3d ago

yeah, that sounds like something people like that would do..

2

u/HoneyParking6176 3d ago

if a dps dies a lot, and i have to choose between ressing them and someone mostly not dieing, i will pick the person more likely to stay alive first, however if anyone is dead, there is a note made to res them at the next avaliable moment if the current moment it cannot be done ( due to mana or swiftcast down and not enough time to hard cast res ), why they died doesn't really matter, even if they are a weak dps, still better to have more bodies up. heck so many different dungeons in this game, even if not the first time easy for someone not to remember the mechs, and with the higher level regular duties having more mechinics then the previous level caps, it is so easy to end up dead.

1

u/Savings-Inspection86 3d ago

Are dungeon boss arenas insta kill? I havent found one where I died cause I touched it got like a bleed or smth but not dead like say a savage wall.

6

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 3d ago

I think they're just bleeds, but with a healer who didn't wanna do anything useful, it might as well have been an instakill

1

u/phonethrowdoidbdhxi 22h ago

Tank/heal always man. Fucking ay they’ll never beat the charges.

2

u/CoffeeAlden 6h ago

I had a tank and a dps who kept dying to the final boss in the Skydeep Cenote. I knew they were genuinely trying, so I just went full tryhard to prevent a wipe by keeping the other dps alive through tankbusters. After ressing those two like 8+ times they finally got the gist of the mechanic and we cleared the boss. That BLM would've cleared the dungeon no problem if that healer gave them the chance. It's their job and the role they signed up for since that BLM clearly wasn't griefing.

-12

u/Stratovaria 3d ago

It's stuff like this why I quit playing at the edge of shb final fight. Been in the blm shoes as smn for things. Even with mits you just get 3 shot on a good hit. 2 on a bad.

-4

u/kriffing_schutta 2d ago

I mean, the first thing the blm says, sounds like he's mad they didn't wait for the cutscene, and this game definitely has no shortage of people who would and do int over that. and, personally, I don't think I've ever accidentally ran to a wall. It's not exactly a subtle mechanic.

4

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 2d ago

I think they meant rezzing, as in they had been dead on the floor for quite some time by then, and that was AFTER I had to get them up with a phoenix down.

1

u/kriffing_schutta 1d ago

I could see that. It was worded weird.

2

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 2d ago

The wall also isn't an instakill. They just had a DoT that the healer wasn't healing them through, so regardless, the entire situation could've been avoided if the healer had pushed some healer buttons.

They were dying to mechanics that aren't in any other dungeon... God forbid someone need time to learn. Dying to things you've never seen before doesn't mean you suck.
