Lore Is it possible with enough time and enough Gue’ron’sha corpses?
I don't know much about Kroot, though. My apologies

Just started my journey collecting Tau. Really liking the play style so far (playing on TTS) and figuring out the colours I want to use across the army.

Fun shot I took. Everything is in some stage of not quite done.

Finished my R'myr!
I hesitated for the color scheme, but it seems that his 8th edition rules had the tag Dal'yth, so I went for that. Same as R'alai, it serves as a one of experiment with other Sept on special characters!

It's the first minifigure I've ever buyed, built and painted.
Is it good?

It's helpful for me in game to quickly be able to look up detachment rules and stratagems. Hope helpful for others too!

In 10th i never left without 2 to 3 carnivores. Needing to keep objectives, being cheap enough to screen, they were perfect.
Now in 11th i find a fireteam is much better. You dont really need to keep objectives, they're just 5 points more than carnivores, they're able to spot! And a small extra is they give -1 to hit on infantry they shoot.
I went to firewarriors cause one game all my spotters got battleshocked and just wouldnt recover.
Anyone else dropped the carnivores?

this is my first battlesuit and quite happy with it

The gun got a little too much of a nerf gun look
The rest feels good.
The speed paint doesn't work great for me on the guns so maybe time to dig the old-school paint out of storage.
But i enjoy the process.
Would it be better to get a air brush and learn to use it or keep learning to use a brush?
The new points change has put my list 5 points over and I’m struggling to work around it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Giving my coldstar a crystalline/icy world base. Keeping it current through all my tau - usually been doing clusters of bluish crystals made from sanded down sprues, but this is salt. I’ve given it a varnish after painting to hopefully help it not dissolve.
Anyone got any suggestions or personal projects that have worked out??

Ok so i started tau a couple months ago and im wondering if painting specific models with different schemes to help keep track of what is what is a good idea? I am currently painting my pathfinder with a camo scheme and im planning on doing that for all my markerlights

I think it looks awesome but it's rules and weapons are a bit underwhelming for the most part. With GW getting rid of a lot of resin kits do we think it will survive the next codex or get legends?

TL;DR: New T'au codex incoming (allegedly). What would your dream army rule be? Keep Markerlights or replace them with something totally new? Should Drones be physical models again instead of tokens? And how would you fix Mont'ka/Kauyon so they don't feel dead by the time they matter? Give me your fun, creative ideas.
Hey all,
With the rumours pointing to a new T'au codex on the way, I wanted to open the floor: what cool, creative, and above all fun ideas do you have for where the faction could go?
And before I get into specifics, I don't want to box anyone in. Markerlights are the army rule right now, but that doesn't mean they have to be. So here's my genuine open question: from a lore/faction-identity standpoint, what would be a cool army mechanic for the T'au? Feel free to throw out something completely different from what we have today.
That said, a few things I've been chewing on:
Markerlights: Should they stay an army rule, or go back to being a built-in unit mechanic like they were in 8th (if I remember correctly, the Overwatch for others was the actual army rule)? I'm genuinely torn on this one and curious which way people lean.
Drones: Right now they're basically just tokens, which honestly feels like a letdown to me. Should they be physical models on the table again and actually part of the units? Kind of like Eldar weapon platforms: those could theoretically just be a token, an extra gun the unit carries, but instead they're a proper model on the field. I'd love to see drones treated the same way.
Mont'ka & Kauyon: I'd really like ideas on how to make these more interesting. Personally I'm not a fan of the whole "this rule only works for a set number of turns" design. Mont'ka is fine since it covers the first three rounds, but Kauyon kicking in from round 3 feels rough — by then the game is often already decided, so you barely get anything out of it.
Throw your wildest ideas at me! I'm here for the fun, off-the-wall stuff as much as the balanced takes.
Here is some info,
Context: My friends and I came back from a long time hiatus and bought some combat patrols last year while still in 10th. My friends picked up Orks and SW while I went with Tau.
We are using 11th maps and scoring rules while using the original datasheets for the specific Combat Patrols, so all belong in 10.
The Problem: I'm struggling with Tau mobility specifically. Based on how to score points, I should be going out (or deploy) to get the secondary objectives, but that leaves me way too exposed to charges, especially against Orks. But if I play too passively, I'll get my ass beaten and will barely score any points.
Any ideas or tips on how to approach this?
Thanks in advance.

Great fun to paint, and super quick for my standards too. 40k might have a lot of models but it looks like this might be the fastest army I will ever paint 😅

For like events/tournaments how are the drones handled
Do you Have to have them?
Can they be 3d printed proxy’s?
I havent gone to any events yet but I’m working up to it figured it would be best to figure that out now

Please make me understand why people play them so often?
Is it just the AP buff they give to the commander? Are the burst cannons better than I think?
To me full rerolls to hit backed by damage 2 missile pods are more useful.

Hello all! Hope you’re all doing well.
I’m pretty sure my post is going to be the same as thousands of others before mine, but with 11th edition and the recent points updates, I’m not really sure what’s relevant anymore and what isn’t, so hopefully you can help.
Long story short, I’ve been playing 40K for about a year now. I started with Custodes and, whilst they were a solid first choice, they felt pretty route A to me. Basically, just go forward and kill things. They were a lot of fun though, and they helped me learn the fundamentals of the game.
After a few months of playing Custodes, I fell in love with Votann. After making the switch, I’ve been enjoying the tough little bastards for a while now, and I intend to keep playing them as my main army for the foreseeable future.
However, recently I’ve felt a calling coming across the galaxy. A calling to something better. Something greater...
A Greater Good.
After looking into a few different bits, I’ve fallen deeply in love with Tau shooting. The fear and despair I’ve seen on people’s faces when they realise they’re about to face down a Tau gunline... I’ve seen their hope, their very essence, literally drain from their eyes one shooting phase at a time.
And I want to experience it for myself.
I want to join your numbers. If you will have me.
All joking aside, I’m waiting for the next codex to drop before properly getting started, and then I’ll start picking up a few bits. I know everything is obviously subject to change, but is there any general advice in terms of units? Are there any units or pieces of advice that are fairly timeless that I could start looking at before the codex drops?
Also, has anyone else made the move from Votann to Tau? If so, what’s the one thing you wish you knew when you started that you know now?
Any advice would be massively appreciated!

Hi everyone, I had been thinking of getting a second army (currently enjoying World Eaters) and my group doesn't have anyone that plays Tau. So I figured I'd check it out and see if that's the direction I want to go.
Would you have any suggestions on what units are "must have" or "don't buy"? How about playstyle? Any advice is helpful.
TIA!
