12 OL is fucking crazyyy, should've cut one of them for bond, smhh

24

u/Sparrighitti 2d ago

Who needs an extra WR when you can field a whole play full of OLmen. The question is who gets the snap? Rutledge?

8

u/Intrepid_Stock_1524 :HOU: 2d ago

It’s like they’re planning on running Jumbo the whole season.

1

u/F33lsogood 21h ago

Super Jumbo. 11 lineman on a play. Plus 1 as substitute. In case someone runs out of breath.

3

u/NothinsOriginal :Red-Helmet: 2d ago

They also kept 4 TEs. A lot of 12 personnel incoming.

3

u/Efficient-Swimmer794 :johnson3: 2d ago

I would not be surprised if they ran more 13 as well

6

u/New-Journalist6724 2d ago

I wonder if this will change tomorrow with new pickups from waiver wires

3

u/texinxin :HOU: 2d ago

What in the absolute fuck ls 12 OL!? If we lose skill position player with potential not making it through waivers because we didn’t have the balls to cut down this list I’ll be furious. There’s no way all 12 of these guys are better than anyone you could pick up off a practice squad or off the street..

1

u/CattleTx :H-Town: 1d ago

Nahh fr tho like wtf is andrews and hagen doing there!!

58

u/Texans_top_of_south :Stroud: 2d ago

12 offensive lineman seems excessive...

55

u/Sparrighitti 2d ago

That's what you think before the apocalypse hits

12

u/hinterstoisser :HOU: 2d ago

Don’t get the Andrews over Patterson part

2

u/Delicious-Bug7064 2d ago

Andrews has a deep connection with the OL coach.

1

u/rybres123 1d ago

He must have some dirt or something on him
At this point

Cuz he’s garbage and we have 3 other dudes whon can snap the ball and play other positions

4

u/FranklinOnDaHundo 2d ago

This room will be trimmed when Tank is reactivated from IR week 5

-1

u/hankventure83 Watt 1d ago

That hopium hitting hard this morning

1

u/rybres123 1d ago

Truly a disgrace imo

We still don’t know what we’re doing up front

Prayers Rutledge really is HIM

49

u/baraktrellheim :doodle3: 2d ago

12 O line is crazy… Jake Andrews being the back up center when he has no versatility AND looks like has regressed is disappointing. Only five WRs when Nico always misses time. Only three RBs when Brooks consistently misses time. I don’t understand our choices on offense.

16

u/baraktrellheim :doodle3: 2d ago

I also would have preferred Codrington over Tremon Smith but CB4 is much less important. They gotta be looking for another DE 4 on the waiver wire or via trade.

8

u/Intrepid_Stock_1524 :HOU: 2d ago

Tremon Smith is a ST demon. I think people here really undervalue that.

1

u/willydillydoo :Stroud: 1d ago

Fair but if he ever has to play in coverage he’s an absolute liability. That matters for something

2

u/Miserable-Clock-6944 :HOU: 2d ago

I honestly doubt Tremon is even CB4 that’s a toss up between wright & Jaylin.. they probably kept him purely for special teams

11

u/verfinder 2d ago

If I dare try to make sense of keeping Andrews is that they're planning on trading him. We've heard that chargers or the commanders are looking for center depth. Could use Andrews for more draft capital/ another player. But if Andrews is on the roster by week 1 vs the bills. That'll be super disappointing.

1

u/Delicious-Bug7064 2d ago

Or hes got a deep connection with the OL coach..

1

u/rybres123 1d ago

Those was just random twitter sccounts. Nobody wants our Jv center

Only way it makes sense at this point is he must have some damning dirt on pop or something

5

u/Sparrighitti 2d ago

I don't get it with andrews. If Brown gets hurt Nwaiwu snapped in college and Rutledge could slide over.

2

u/baraktrellheim :doodle3: 2d ago

Or they could have kept Patterson.

10

u/Sparrighitti 2d ago

I think they probably put both out on the block and teams only wanted patterson. Just my guess. Still think his versatility makes him more valuable than a 7th rounder. And if smith and hagen were going to make the roster anyway we didn't need thomas

2

u/baraktrellheim :doodle3: 2d ago

Agreed

2

u/Miserable-Clock-6944 :HOU: 2d ago

Seems weird… idk what they like about Hagen.. I heard he had a handful of good snaps in camp but he looked freaking HORRIBLE against Carolina.

2

u/rybres123 1d ago

Hagen is by far strangest one to make team

I listen to a few of the pods and literally haven’t heard his name

1

u/Miserable-Clock-6944 :HOU: 1d ago

S&L has brought him up only to talk about how bad he’s performed.

1

u/rybres123 1d ago

Clearly his value wasn’t more than a 7th tho…

1

u/Sparrighitti 1d ago

More valuable to us than a seventh rounder

1

u/rybres123 1d ago

If he was more valuable than a 7th rounder then we would have gotten more than a 7th rounder r

4

u/Intrepid_Stock_1524 :HOU: 2d ago

I can get Andrew’s a little bit, because he has experience and he was playing through injury last season. But keeping Sam Hagan? He was AWFUL in the preseason. I think it’s a mistake to keep him around and not Lewis Bond.

1

u/Pure-Flatworm :H-Town: 2d ago

Tank slated to return. Hopefully fully

3

u/baraktrellheim :doodle3: 2d ago

They put Tank on IR with option to return. He can’t come back until after Week 4.

1

u/Pure-Flatworm :H-Town: 2d ago

By then we'll know if we need another deep threat over a 3rd string ol

1

u/rybres123 1d ago

Bond cleared wiavers so should be a lock for p squad

But ya, no fucking clue why Andrew’s is still on this team

19

u/BadTraditional401 2d ago

12 OLs means it's still a cluster at that position.

14

u/StoutHeart2 2d ago

It means Caserio is still working on dealing at least one.

9

u/NoirSon 2d ago
  • I can't understand why we are keeping Jake Andrews. Even if Evan Brown gets injured, I would prefer one of the rookies at center and Teller or Smith at guard than Andrews right now.
  • I figured we would have dropped one of the line backer Jakes (Hummel and Hansen).

7

u/Sup3rB0i1 2d ago

Bro cmon keeping Sam Hagen should be a crime

12

u/Sparrighitti 2d ago edited 2d ago

Too many OL, maybe one too many LBs and CBs. Need another WR, RB, Nickel, and S

3

u/IAmSona :nagatoro1: 2d ago

Only 3 backs? Alright.

7

u/Sparrighitti 2d ago

really only 2. We are supremely fucked if British brooks is taking more than 3 handoffs a game

3

u/JohnMaddensBurner 2d ago

I think most teams are fucked if their 3rd string RB is taking meaningful snaps. Having 4 TEs makes me think we’ll be playing them at FB more or just moving away from the position entirely.

1

u/rybres123 1d ago

I think close to a 100% chance the Oregon kid on practice squad and immediately called up if we suffer injuries

But ya, 12 online and 3 RBs is odd.

6

u/McDickLick :doodle1:oh fuck i'm gonna swarm 2d ago

Jake Andrews is my sleep demon. I just see him facing away from me, hunched over, before he hikes the ball right past my head and through my window.

6

u/BasaraTheSlayer :HOU: 2d ago

Ok so 12 OL 2 RBs and 5 WRs??? Yall kept Hagen tho wtf we trying to do this season?

3

u/According-Activity87 :H-Town: 2d ago edited 2d ago

I'm thinking keeping 12 offensive linemen is probably to maintain and maximize trade capital.

10

u/StillFluid4677 2d ago

This team is way too high on British Brooks

26

u/SpacemanAo 2d ago

Special teams is a huge part of the game. It’s very undervalued here.

-7

u/StillFluid4677 2d ago

Well, that's fair. But a whole roster spot for a special teamer who we use as a fullback twice a game? Idunno man

12

u/SpacemanAo 2d ago

I’ll defer to the experts. He’s doing something they really like. Probably something I don’t fully understand. I couldn’t make it past high school football lol. What do I know.

Edit: thinking about it. A dude that can be your third string tailback. A fullback and play special teams is pretty legit. It doesn’t do anything for Madden or fantasy, but positional versatility from deep backups is highly valued.

6

u/StillFluid4677 2d ago

Yeah, that's actually a good point. And I do have a lot of faith in the FO and Demeco.

5

u/Miserable-Clock-6944 :HOU: 2d ago

He started sharing a lot more opportunities in camp. They started putting him a lot for pass pro and short yardage… plus it glad he made the team. Probably the best ST they have.. dudes a dog.. I suspect he’ll be used a bit more this year if training camps anything to go by.

-8

u/Lothar1988 2d ago

Whatever he does on ST is not more valuable than what a better RB3 could do.

5

u/SpacemanAo 2d ago

Hard disagree. Google the 2010 Chargers. Also, I’m pretty sure Casserio and Demeco have a little more insight on the situation than Lothar1988 lol.

-2

u/Lothar1988 2d ago

"Politicians have a little more insight on the problems of our day than random guy, therefore cede to their knowledge"

See what I did there? That's you. I need not be in the building to participate in discourse.

1

u/SpacemanAo 2d ago

Alright, I’ll participate in the worst analogy of all time.

Do I trust this politician? Do I think he’s good at his job? Because in this case I do. I think the people making this decision are capable and competent and have a lot more knowledge and information than I do about the situation. I defer to their judgment on who the third string tailback should be.

I also do agree with the consensus that we need some sort of change of pace/explosive type in the running back room. I think that will come at the expense at one of the 12 OLinemen we have on the roster and not BB, who the front office and coaching staff clearly value.

-3

u/Lothar1988 2d ago

Saying you defer to their judgement doesnt mean anything because you have no choice but to defer to their judgement. They have more information on literally every opinion we have on everything in this reddit. Its not like they make bad decisions because they have no information and I, the fan, who said "That's stupid. Dont do it" had more info than the ppl in the building.

My main point is they have more info than us at all times and yielding that as a reason you should just accept their decisions is foolish.

2

u/SpacemanAo 2d ago

Alrighty then 😳

That doesn’t change the fact that I hard disagree on your initial comment that rb3 intrinsically holds more value on what’s described by experts as elite special teams skills and positional versatility.

But you do you boo

3

u/limitlesshamster 2d ago

Brooks is a fb, he hardly qualifies as a back. They are far from done with that position, probably looking at players cut to fill in the actual rb 3 position.

3

u/SpacemanAo 2d ago

I’m aware. That’s why I said third string. Not change of pace, not third down, not power back. Third string is your ‘oh shit’ back. If he’s toting it more than twice a game things are not going according to plan lol.

That player archetype has value though. Someone has to do the dirty work. Obviously the Texans think so.

3

u/limitlesshamster 2d ago

I mean my response wasnt addressed towards you, pretty sure were saying the same thing.

2

u/SpacemanAo 2d ago

Oh dang, my fault.

1

u/Accomplished_Way8964 2d ago

Couple of thoughts from an expert (me!):

He's versatile.
Texans are emphasizing the run game with bigger personnel, so maybe they see more of a role for him.
In a super-small sample size of meaningless snaps last season, he did pretty well.

Of course, he's not the only player in the league with those qualifications, but he's a know commodity on the field and in the locker room, plus maybe there are some intangibles he brings that us Reddit Experts aren't privy to.

Anyway, I don't understand why one day we're praising the coaches and front office for Marlin Klein and Kayshon Boutte, then questioning their personnel decisions the next.

5

u/oblongblondeschlong 2d ago

Thinking there may be a trade involving Teller in the works

7

u/baraktrellheim :doodle3: 2d ago

If so, trading Patterson and keeping Andrews makes even less sense. If they trade Teller, Nwaiwu would be the only back up guard.

4

u/Miserable-Clock-6944 :HOU: 2d ago

I extremely doubt it.. he’s the only guard depth outside the rookie.

6

u/Adorable-Roll-3849 :H-Town: 2d ago

This many linemen only means one thing, we don’t got our shit together on offense

4

u/DJMTBguy :H-Town: 2d ago

So many unexpected decisions. I hope we don’t get burned on the waiver wire gambles. 5 WRs and 2 1/2 RBs was very surprising.

2

u/limitlesshamster 2d ago

No bond is quite shocking

1

u/ThePhantom394 :StroudSquabble: 2d ago

Jonathan Alexander said that his lack of value in special teams was part of the decision. I’m sure muffing that punt did not help his chances

2

u/content_enjoy3r :toro: 2d ago

I have to believe there are more moves coming and this is not the Week 1 roster because what the fuck.

2

u/yeah_naw_dawg :H-Town: 2d ago

There’s got to be people who are going to be cut on other teams they want to add. Cause no way we keep 12 linemen.

2

u/Anxious-Two4194 2d ago

Man I can’t read this shit lol

2

u/KDs_FakeAccount :HOU: 2d ago

Folks freaking out about Andrew’s and Nick might have trade in the chamber, especially with teams needing centers

2

u/htownballa1 :H-Town-Cal: 2d ago

People are upset that talent that they personally think is talent is getting cut, instead of the talent that DeMeco and Casserio see every day in the building. I am willing to bet that the current 53 man roster, is not the opening day 53 man roster.

1

u/Miserable-Cycle-8770 2d ago

That RB room!

1

u/Smoke_and_Mirror :doodle1: 2d ago

Where is Tank Dell?

3

u/SpaceCadetPullUp :OIL: 2d ago

On IR. He can return after the 4th game.

2

u/Busy-Comfortable-352 2d ago

Short term IR

1

u/kongzi80 2d ago

They’re gonna bring back Dare!

1

u/Tall-Help3626 2d ago

Can you make it blurrier? I can still barely read it

2

u/Barnacle_External :HOU: 2d ago

Can’t make you any promises but for you, I’ll do my best.

1

u/bingmyname :H-Town: 2d ago

12 OL!

1

u/__LikeMike__ 1d ago

Tank Dell?

1

u/Barnacle_External :HOU: 1d ago

IR, designated to return. Will miss at least the first 4 weeks.

1

u/boredazf 1d ago

Davis mills, QB1?

1

u/boatmover86 1d ago

The only draftee to not make the roster is WR Lewis Bond our 6th round pick.

1

u/Adventurous-Edge1719 1d ago

Stoked as hell Sebastian Harsh made the team. Hope he turns into a quality piece on the D-Line.

1

u/Nien_Nunb365 1d ago

Getting through pre-season with only 5 WRs you think are good enough and 3 running backs, one of whom is really a special teamer doesn’t seem ideal. Trusting that Caserio is lining up some moves.

1

u/Curious-Detective441 1d ago

The way I was flipping through the pics to see where tank dell was and had a mini heart attack only to discover he has been placed on injury reserve 😭

-5

u/StillFluid4677 2d ago

But why is this graphic fuckin backwards and shit. Put the starters on top lol

3

u/Wildheart0589 :H: 2d ago

It’s in alphabetical order

2

u/StillFluid4677 2d ago

Oh by last name, dang you right

-4

u/Wildheart0589 :H: 2d ago

So who’s going to be our returners? Not like our WR room has shown they can also stay healthy. I would’ve liked to have seen another WR.

11

u/camwal11 2d ago

Noel is going to be the Returner

2

u/baraktrellheim :doodle3: 2d ago

I would guess Noel or Tremon Smith on PR. Marks on KR with whoever the PR is.

1

u/RefuseKooky7935 2d ago

Andrews. Which of those little ST is going to want to tackle him? lol

1

u/Nien_Nunb365 1d ago

Noel hopefully, Tremon Smith gives me the fear on returns after the Jags game.
