Question/Help Converting international car driver's license into thai license
Does anyone know what the process for doing this is?
It seems like you are able to bring your international car driver's license and have it converted into a Thai license which lasts for 1 year, but is a physical/online theory exam required?
Do you just head to the DLT with your international license and a medical health certificate and pass the vision/reaction tests and that's it, or are any forms of exams required? (whether it's physically driving or taking a theory test)
Staying on DTVisa if that matters.

You also need your homecountry licence. The local DLT can give you alist of requirements, but I suspect a residence certificate will be required from immigration.

A few things not mentioned yet.
The certificate of residency must be less than 30 days old.
You must view videos and take quizzes at the end to get a Pass or Fail notification on the DLT SmartQueue app.Take a screenshot of the notification.
Take cash to the DLT; You can't scan. The only tests at DLT will be for color blindness and reaction time. If you go to a non-busy province, you can be in and out in 45 minutes.
Also - take copies of your passport ID and visa stamp pages.
If you want both car and motorcycle licenses, you must be licensed for both at home. In Thailand, they are separate licenses, so be prepared to have 2 copies of everything. You may not need both, but as with all government interactions, it depends on who's sitting across from you.

I know it sounds fishy but it is true: you can’t just show up but need to download the DLT smart que app, where you book a time for your nearest DTV location. All required documents are listed.

For many offices foreigners can't book with the app, you need to go in person and get a reservation for foreigners. I booked on the app at Bang Chak and they refused the reservation and I had to get a new date from the foreigner queue completely wasting a trip.

… I showed up at my office and got turned away because I hadn’t used the app! Downloaded it and could book the separate foreigner que successfully in both Udon and Rayong; every thing is different in Thailand!

for other people reading this thread besides OP, i took driving class which was 12 hours practice driving course at a driving school in chiang mai, plus additionally went through practice test questions repeatedly at home. so, i recommend it if you want practice with a right-hand side car and you want to know what all the thai signage is, and general driving rules that might be on the test. and it was damn cheap, for what it was.
oh, forgot to say, and so, that school gets you the docs of what you need to get the license. you just show up and take a photo. right after that i went and bought a car at honda dealer and had to come back to the same office but a different line to get the registration thing done, and honda had an agent go into the office to get my thing done in minutes. so i barely was even in this Driver's office building in the two times i went, plus i was able to get parking..

Yeah I’m another fan of a driving school. I did a course for people with xp but no license - after 2 days, I went to the dlt, photo and issued with a license. They do a day bike course for 1200b too

The IDP international driver's permit is just a translation of your home license. You can't convert the IDP.
Getting a Thai license you need: Your passport, cert of residence, doctor's fit to drive certificate and your unexpired home country driver's licence.
Book a time and do eye and testing test at dept of land transport, possibly up to 2 hours E learning, pay fee.
