Honestly at that speed you wanna fall like that. Putting your hands out to stop yourself only breaks your wrists.. and then you still slam on your body. That guy knew how to fall. Tuck and roll and try and slide into it if you can reducing the initial gravity weight. That guy basically did the laying down of a motorcycle version of skateboarding bail.
He didnt know it but his whole life up until that point, every thing he had done and worked so hard for in life was for this one specific moment and snapshot in time.
"NO WAAAAYYYY!!!" ... like, really? There's no way such idiocy could result in injury (or death?).
This is like a "cooler" version of those street takeover videos. Equally as stupid, but skate rat people ...so, cool?
Now I'm wondering about other groups and similar stupidity, realizing that it's wildly common that stupid humans get together in groups and do stupid things.
It's not that stupid. Cops aren't going to show up and arrest you, bystanders aren't hurt or killed, and the public isn't inconvenienced. This is about as stupid as someone getting a concussion while playing football.
I've skateboarded down hills like that before, difference was I had plenty of room. Room to power slide, room to see and avoid obstacles. I still fell, it still hurt, but that's part of skateboarding.
I used to hate helmets when I rode my commuter bicycle. Then my aunt died a couple years ago by falling on her head. 3 weeks ago I got a road bike and felt I needed a helmet as those things reward going fast, glad I did as 40kph is no joke.
Traumatic Brain Injury can leave you brain dead and then your parents will agonize over two weeks before they decide to donate your organs. Circle of life. Circle of laughs.
Some lady was at an ice rink where I was teaching my daughter and I tried really kindly to suggest she wear a helmet. She was kinda rude about it so I let it go obviously.
I was snowboarding about 10 years ago (mid 30s at the time) and ate it while we were racing to the bottom to take a break and get food/beer. I hit my head so hard I was puking the rest of the day and was still seeing three traffic lights where there was only one on the drive home. In hindsight I probably should have gone to get a CT scan or something, but either way, I'm never riding without a helmet again. It probably saved my life two winters ago when I had to bail because someone was crashed on the otherside of a jump (had been laying there for so long that no one knew they were there) and ended up going into the trees to avoid him.
Wear your helmets guys and girls. It's not cool to ride or skate without one.
Why have skateboarders still not embraced the helmet as important and not lame?
I feel like snowboarding used to be like that but then pretty much everyone wised up.
You have Tony Hawk that is arguably the GOAT skateboarder and he consistently wore (and wears?) tons of gear. Why these mental giants don't try to emulate him makes me think they all already have brain damage
Vert skaters (like Tony Hawk) have always worn gear. Street skaters for the most part don’t whether you agree with it or not. There is one street skater who is famous and wears helmets. Not everyone who takes risks is brain damaged or stupid.
It's actually more comfortable to wear a helmet while snowboarding (as opposed to just a hat). It keeps your head warm and holds your goggles so that they're not squeezing your head. It's a much better windbreaker than a hat. I used to ride without a helmet but was instantly converted when I tried one on for the first time.
A full 10 seconds passed of the plaid shirt person with the long hair laying down cold not moving before anyone checked on them. What a bunch of idiots
Its crazy how the apparent severity of the impact doesnt always coincide with injury. Some of those guys just walk away after getting catapulted and others look fucking dead.
Everyone keeps hating on them for not wearing helmets like oh they’re too cool for it blah blah blah yet the event itself, tick ditch death race, is historically helmetless. That’s the point. I mean it’s not very intelligent and it almost flagrant in its disregard for human life but like that’s what it’s all about man. Skate or die man. Skate AND die man, it’s all rolled into one, rolled like your battered body
No way? They’re going down a long hill increasing speed with no way to slow down effectively and no one is wearing any protection. This is expected and so predictable.
I’m a lifelong skater (21 years now) and I’ve never heard skatey senses before but that’s incredible. You’re right though it was totally an Ollie out of habit.

When I snowboarded I would always wear a helmet. Other "knuckle draggers" would snicker and whatnot, but I didn't care.
Then, I went with a friend on a night that didn't have the best conditions.The fried was not wearing a helmet bc it didn't match their "fit". Friend's dad had driven us there. First lift ride to the top, and there was a patch of ice at the dismount... Well, both of us went down and smacked the back of our heads. Guess who wanted to go home right away, and guess who had a headache but no head injury?
If you had a headache you probably did have a head injury. Helmets are great but smacking your head hard on ice doesn't stop your brain from bouncing around in your gourd. Glad it wasn't worse for either of you though.
This happened to me once. We wore helmets tho for the most part. You feel OK for about 30 seconds until you see the road burns... Then it's immediate and excruciating pain.
No safety precautions, no helmets, no track-team, no warning-wests, no nothing. Why do many alternative communities just give a fk about these standards? Are safety standards uncool?
